Just finished
Kamichu! That was a very pleasant show. It is excellent slice of life. The premise of a junior highschool girl becoming a god turned out to be so entertaining. It's like a much more light hearted Natsume Yuujinchou with an innocent romance involved. The things that go on in this series were pretty unique: the main character suddenly becoming a god and causing a typhoon that was named after her, being the ambassador to a crash landed martian who was returning a broken down rover to earth or watching your pet cat shoryuken another cat. I don't think I was ever bored with any episode of this show. The amusement just kept coming.
What also really made this show endearing for me was the setting. Something about it being in the 1980s really struck a tone with me. I suppose I have a soft spot for these sorts of time periods.
The OST was also particularly strong. The instrumental scores are quite diverse and really create atmosphere of a small town on the coast. Some it reminds me of something I'd hear from Joe Hisashi. Some of my favourite tracks from the show:
Sentimental Country Romance,
Chuugakusei Ga Yuku,
Sukoshi Fushigi. I think I'll have to look into picking up the OST sometime.
The
opening for this show is also quite well done. The song is really catchy and the sequence is nicely composed. Didn't skip it once.
On the animation side of things, not being well versed in such things, I'll just say it was a solid production by Brains Base. I was a little surprised with how well animated some things were but I wonder how the original broadcast was.
I had a lot of fun with this show and would recommend any others who enjoy some light hearted whimsical adventures. I really should of caught this show back when it was airing, I love these sorts of shows. Literally a godlike anime.
Now to get to reading the manga adaptation. Going to need some more slice of life after this. Perhaps its time to start up Aria.
