They're actually just panned stills. lol

The animation has its moments but for the most part the actual action scene direction completely falls flat.

edit: i will say that i've enjoyed the first few episodes of this more than most of the last season

LOL

I knew it looked too good to be true.

Funny you mentioned that, I decided to watch Planetes (as I don't know where my Utena stuff is) and Tanabe is much much worse than Akane. I want to cut her cord and let her drift off into space. I just finished episode 3 and I wanted to hit the mute button whenever she opened her goddamn mouth.
Haha. Maybe it's because I've already been through Planetes, but I find Akane to be the one that's more annoying. Go figure.

Jesus christ, talk about overkill.
This entire arc had been leading up to someone dying with the constant flashbacks to Echo and I'm certainly glad it wasn't Jonah but still... R ;_;

Legend of the Galactic Heroes 103

This is like if Che Guevara's face were printed on all kinds of t-shirts/caps/slogans and... oh.

Annerose makes a comeback and we discover she had the hotz for Kircheis. Not that one could blame her, as redheads are pretty fabulous indeed, but surely that's something Reinhard should never know? I trust Hilde to remain silent 'til death do them apart.

Speaking of female power, Dominique was all sorts of foreboding in this episode. She is gently pushing Rubinsky towards doing something important before he hits the bullet, because, as she explains it, Reinhard's plans have merely been inconvenience by his existence. Rubinsky may have been a masterful manipulator, but he has long since been rendered irrelevant by the Kaiser's ascension to the throne.

This episode ends with Oberstein calling names and kicking arse --more specifically, the Kaiser's. He makes the argument that Lohengramm's thirst for battle are simply too bloody, instigating a police state in order to command an exchange of hostages/fortress with the Republican government in Iserlohn. Here we see Oberstein's pragmatic point of view regarding human loss; he was, after all, the one that convinced the Kaiser to let the events on Westerland happen. This public voicing of his opinions against the Neue Reich will surely have him on the Kaiser's sword soon, but he is right: are the sacrifices of the few justified by the needs of the many? Forget the silly "dying in battle" honour schtick, this is surely the best way to peacefully engage with Julian's forces.

Finally getting steamy here.

Did they just say rape? Yeah, they said rape.
RIP long-haired Yozora, you will be missed. Now I have no reason to give a shit about her.
Anyways, more of what made Haganai, Haganai. Typical episode where they try something to practice for when they have friends, this time writing a relay novel, with pretty predictable results. But who cares? It's more Haganai.

So this is what people mean by mecha porn.

So is Haganai worth watching?
I started the first episode one mornning but I passed out on my keyboard and woke up four hours later with killer leg cramps.

That's my point.

So... despite writing the source material, and having input on the show itself, which adapts the exposition-heavy novels into an exposition-heavy show... uh, okay.

Also you can't just hand-wave away clumsy "worldbuilding" as something that's required for a scifi work. Most of the convos with the old prosthetic man are unneeded.

Now that I remember, I did see the first episode way back when it first aired. Not really sure why I didn't keep up with it.
It has its highs and lows. I think anyone who enjoyed late-nineties "edgy and profane" cartoons should find something enjoyable out of it. It's a love letter to late-night non-sequitur animated comedies.
I'm pretty sure Hix never finished Utena.
Who?
You have to watch Utena because even little kids who only watch digital shows love it.
I need to get you on more cel-animated cartoons.

Chuunibyou is so good. Taps into complex feels in that effortless way that great anime like Azumanga and K-On manage. I hope they don't do something stupid like having the fantasy elements turn out to be real.

Hitokage

Setec Astronomer
Dog Days s1

1. At least it was better than Twelve Kingdoms.

2. Yet another show that allows garden defilement.

3.
In all of the stupid plotting featured here, the worst is them forgetting about the cell phone at the end. Shinku finally gets his second life experience and they forget to text a retelling.

Highly doubt it ends up like that.
They are delusions.
Its pretty clear none of it is real.

Medaka Box Abnormal Episode 03

Oh man completely forgot about Megane Twintailed Medaka- HNNNNNNGHHHH

Good episode. Lots of talking in the first half besides that awesome kick from Zenkichi. Oudo is totally Gilgamesh 2.0 and Tomokazu's voice would've been a perfect fit for his character. Oh well. Second half was great with the door scene and with the introduction of the first Thirteen Party member the group will face. I enjoyed Shigusa's fight and all in the manga but looking at the preview for the next episode
Munakata fight coming soon OMG SO HYPE
.

I'm pretty happy with this adaption so far and I'm totally looking forward to next week. Should be great.

So AnimeGAF, I'm going to start watching Legend of the Galactic Heroes this weekend. I already have seen the first prelude movie (My Conquest is a Sea of Stars), but I am now confused on what to watch next. As far as I can understand, there are three possible ways to begin this show:

1) Watch the second prelude (Overture to a New War) then start watching from episode 1;
2) Watch the second prelude, then start at episode ?? (I heard the movie covers the first few episodes);
3) Don't watch the second prelude, just start on episode 1.

So, what's the preferred course of action here?

I did route 3, but most people here will tell you to go with route 2.

Watch Overture to a New War and then start with the 3rd episode. Overture is an expanded and improved version of the events of the first two episodes, so there's no real reason to watch those unless you feel like seeing the differences.

Upotte OVA

Well that took advantage of being an OVA.
Considering the tone of the show I was surprised how subdued it was for an OVA. Especially considering the PV.

Interesting. Is the show shown during 1975 the inspiration for the YuruYuri intros?

I don't understand why KyoAni decided to invent a character who just sleeps all the time. Did they think the audience needed someone to relate to?
Well I can relate. I love sleeping.
Though I try to refrain from napping during the day.

I'm pretty fond of it.
Fun and attractive characters, and Buriki's character art is beautiful (though it seems a lot of people feel Denpa Onna did a better job of bringing it to animation).
I will say that the TV series starts out enjoyable and then kind of peters out as it goes along, so the most fun is in the first half, but overall I recommend it.

A Good Citizen
Buriki is like one of the worst character designers working today. Horrid squished faces with Keyface-like eye distances and crescent moon mouths.

I don't know why he left (and he did post in the Spring thread), but I do know that he didn't post Utena impressions past episode 2, even though he said he was enjoying it.

A shame really, I enjoyed reading his impressions. Not sure if it was because of the forced wide-screen thing, though. I thought most people were joking about that with him.

Kingdom - 11-12

No GIFs from me, sorry

This really could be the ugliest show ever made, and I've watched Kannazuki no Miko, so that's saying something. The 2D parts are ugly but tolerable, but when the CG kicks in some character faces literally look nothing like they did in 2D, it's extremely ugly and fucked up.

But I am having fun with it, I won't lie. It has that classic shounen formula done in a stupid but fun way, the main character is annoying as fuck but you can't help but be interested to see what's the next stupid shit he'll pull off and the ugliness just adds to the overall entertainment value of the show. I feel bad, but I will watch this until the end.
