Falling Skies: Spielberg Alien Invasion TV series on TNT

Not bad, a few too many gratuitous shots of "hot post-apocalyptic female freedom fighter walking in slow-mo carrying a large gun" and some of the special effects were definitely low budget, but for a tv series it was far from the worst I have seen.

I'm glad they didn't over-do the whole "father struggles to meet his responsibilities to his family while completing his duties as a leader" schtick that is often too predictable, in fact even though there are certainly "standard" character roles here, none of them are taken to the extremes as to be unbelievable.

Lots of little stuff to nitpick on, but if they continue with the current level of quality I think it's worth tuning in.

well that was disappointing, but since its sci fi and there is so little of it i guess i will watch till it gets canceled.

And yet again Spielberg does something with aliens. Im starting to believe Spielberg is an alien himself. The reptilian David Icke kind of alien. But i will watch the pilot. :)

I thought that brunette girl looked familiar - she was also Adelita on Weeds. Alright, you've hooked me Spielberg!

I probably would've kept watching anyway, since I loved Walking Dead / Jericho and this feels similar.

Damn, that divorce really kicked his ass into gear. Super8, tin tin, a tv series...
No part of this post makes sense.

a) The divorce that happened 20 years ago?

b) He's no more busy now than he used to be. He's always produced tons of stuff of varying degrees of quality.

Do we really need to be reminded every five minutes that Noah's character used to be a professor?

The show is not a must watch, but it's better than nothing. I'll give it some time.

This is gonna be so terrible.

Like most shit TV shows, it's a premise and nothing else. Expect all of the most tired TV cliches and tropes. I'll be surprised if it lasts beyond one season.

Yeah, the writing for the professor is horribad.

I dunno, the critical hype for this is the only reason I'm watching. I hope it picks up, because at the moment it's about as shallow as The Walking Dead.

I thought it was boring, didn't hold my attention for long.

Reminded me of Jericho, but of the bad survival parts, not the awesome atomic bomb exploding part.

Yeah, I thought that was annoying. Usually I don't mind those kinds of things, but that was ridiculous.

Yeah, Spielberg is always producing stuff.

Kinda worried about the world-building--hopefully, the Children of Earth-type stuff gets an interesting reveal--but otherwise a decent amount of fun on display. The Asian guy's headshot was pretty sweet and the post-apocolyptic gang sealed it, especially a particular character's sharp heel-turn. Wasn't surprised to find out that Justified's Yost scriped the latter portion.

Basically, fun B-movie stuff that's to be expected from TNT in the spirit of Leverage.

Oh Leverage starts next week? They just stole my Sunday Night.

Speak of the devil! It does? Awesome. Damages starts up soon, too. :D

Thought it was pretty boring for the most part. Would have really liked them to focus more on the Aliens out of the gate rather than focusing on the humans fighting humans stuff that is getting old. Looks like it could get better, just hope it gets past the basic cliche human aspects fast.

He confirmed in a video when being interviewed by an audience on whether or not he believes in aliens that he does, which explains why his work is inspired by certain opinions within UFOlogy. It's said that a few who have worked with him on his past projects, who he used as consultants, were the sources for certain conspiracy theory incidents relating to alien contact; so in effect a person working on Close Encounters of the Third Kind was brought in by Spielberg to tell him how an incident of of contact went down. The scene were the visitors in that film took some humans in exchange was meant to dramatise an actual alleged exchange involving alien visitors. Honestly wouldn't surprise me if Spielberg probably browses AboveTopSecret.

I think Taken was the first time the theory of alien abductions being motivated by an intent to create hybrids for experimentation was shown on television show. I would not be shocked to see certain elements of this new series to adopt current theories within Ufology as well; if anything it is certain it will.

So I watched it. Feels like alien version of Walking Dead. Might watch further, but seems to one of those shows that will go off the rails at any moment.

Gave the first hour a 2.5 and the second hour a 3.0 out of 5.

I still like the promise of the show and will stick around.

From the trailers and reviews, and the impressions here, I'm not that excited to watch this right away. I might wait until the season is over. I was fooled once by Flashforward, fooled twice by V, and now I'm hesitant towards any new sci-fi show.

The ratings were pretty good though.

"Last night’s two hour premiere of Falling Skies drew 5.9 million viewers and 2.6 million adults 18-49, which works out to a 2.0 adults 18-49 rating."

I liked it. It was good. Strongest debut I've seen in a while.
The writing was very simple and effective.

The first shot of the skitters almost looked like stop motion.

Well, it was better than Battle LA, so that's something.

I liked the chick who defected from the criminals, that was a nice scene with her popping them in the head, saw that shit coming.

Will keep watching.

So how long until the eldest son kisses the new blonde girl? I say episode 4.
Her hair is way nicer, and her boots were sexier.

Fuck, I completely missed this. I was busy watching Game of Thrones last night. Is this premiere going to be on again? Next week the show starts airing at ten right?

Second hour was straight out of cliche handbook. Racist outlaws who won't band together with our heroes. Young, tough, independent woman sees the light and joins her fellow pretty resistance fighters.

Two more episodes to get good or I'm out.

Young, hot woman who was kidnapped and raped sees an opportunity for escape and takes it, while dealing out some justice.

Except she could have escaped when she took the boy to go back to the base.

It was shit writing. Bad dialog. Plot has issues. It's pretty much warmed over crap, but not much else is on, so I'll give it a couple more episodes

Yeah, show's not great but it's nowhere near as bad as some people are making out.

Well, she really didn't know if they were any better at that time.

And yeah, I agree with you.

Yeah... I'm not even going to bother tuning in next week. The premiere almost bored me to death.

5/10, they can switch the whole premise from aliens to zombies and it'll be the same. It can at least ease my anticipation for Walking Dead season 2.

I also hate the black/asian combo for no reason other than they're black and asian.

I saw the teaser/preview whatever at Wondercon, and I am cautiously optimistic, no one having military experience should give the show more interesting situations rather than kill all the aliens.
