Fallout 4 - PS4 Pro update is out [UK]

Cautiously happy at this. Thanks for the impressions.

I can't test it myself as I don't own it on PS4.... whether I buy it hinges on this Pro patch.

It is much, much better. I was a bit put off by the performance and when I heard they were doing a PRO patch I decided to wait. Glad I did as it performs a lot better. Now is the time to pull the trigger mate.

Both updates released around 5 or 6 hrs ago

Yeah I know, but does the latest Skyrim update lock the Pro at 30fps? Or was the update just mod menu fluff.

I'm not home to test it out sadly

Far out. Tempted to buy the base game for $20 but I have a feeling the GOTY* edition is imminent.

Game looks brilliant on my 4K set. Intro looks almost Last of Us level in terms of detail and clarity.

Can't wait to do another playthrough once I finish Nioh.

Haha yeah Ive been waiting a long time for this patch so I can enjoy the game more, and now it comes out the day after I get Nioh lol.

Using the Simple Seasons mods? How is the framerate at Starlight with those mods? Before Boost Mode those mods made even an empty Starlight run terribly, after Boost Mode it was perfect.

Yup I'm using the Simple Seasons mod and I'm loving it so far. The last time I played the game was when it launched so haven't tested any mods yet. Just started a new game so I'm not there yet but I can try it out on my old save file.

Nice, going to go back once I've finished with Skyrim.

Is this with a mod or did they add some green to the game? I don't remember Sanctuary being so green after the nukes, or anywhere having any green.

Yup using the Simple Seasons mods.

Edit: Here's some 4k screen shots

Are real mods ever coming or is that door closed forever?

Hey, this patch is pretty fucking cool. I can see my Red Rocket settlement from my Sanctuary settlement and vice versa, before all my additions would be drawn out.

Looks nice but as someone who has yet to play the game, I'd have love to seen some pre- and post-patch comparison screens.

Game looks a lot cleaner now but those of you who are looking for the locked 30 need to dampen your hopes. Its still not locked, dips aplenty, albeit minor ones. Its not got the performance of the base game in boost mode thats for sure.

Those Pro shots look better than the what the HD pack on my PC version displayed.

That Pro purchase is looking more and more a cert.

I do wish there were options.

I'm fine with high res only. But an option for those who prefer high frame rate would have been a good move.

That's not encouraging, ugh. I'm going to try it out tonight. Boost mode was really well done, I wish I had played the entire game like that.

I had no issues with frame rate at all, it seemed really smooth. GAF is hyper sensitive dont forget that. A DF article will prob show it dips to 29FPS now and then which is enough to make hundreds of Gaffers lose their shit. The Pro patch is a massive improvement.

Yeah, no. If Fallout 4 had only "29fps" drops it would be a fucking massive improvement.

This patch is a massive improvement. Its funny, you get several people saying how much better it is, one person says its not good and thats what people believe. Always the same here.

I can stand a few drops here and there, the visual tradeoff seems worth it to upgrade to the Pro patch. Will check it out tonight.

There is definitely image quality improvement. ..definitely. ..

There are also mods that disable clutter (like those tiny random rocks and debris), cut down on grass density, completely remove grass, remove lens flare, and remove God rays to increase performance. I suggest everyone use the clutter and lens flare ones at least. You'll never notice they are missing but they will give you better framerates.

It's easier to say that it looks better than to prove that it runs better. You can prove the former with a picture, like in this thread. I don't give a damn about looking better, if the performance is garbage I'll stay with the Boost mode.

Dont get me wrong I didn't say the performance was bad, just that its NOT a good as what was in boost mode, which was a solidly locked 30fps during the main game ( I don't have DLC to test). On the Pro patch in the main game it is not locked and does dip. A simple smooth camera pan around most areas will show the drops when there is a lot on screen. And also people are correct in that its probably only down to 28/29 FPS but it is there, and it was 30 in boost mode at all times.

Supersampling?

Phew. And judging off the screens you can tell. Can we all take a second and acknowledge just how stupid it is to be worried it wouldn't have supersampling? Not making fun, I worry about it more than anyone probably. Just hate how silly it is we can't just expect this as a given. (looking at you TLOU and Dishonored 2 >.< I know theres more but these ones bug me the most) If it has support for something over 1080p, it should have downsampling or at least offer the option along with whatever other tweaks they had in mind for 1080p people. Tomb Raider, Shadow of Mordor, Nioh are good examples of what should be offered. Lets be honest.. it isn't even that much work. Anyways don't want to derail the thread. I just like ranting about that when I get the chance. The silence from dev's make it worse.
