Fallout is free on GOG (until April 7th)

added it to my account but it'll probably be months before I decide to go through it again.

Great game though. People who didn't know what we were talking about when we were upset at Bethesda over Fallout 3 should play this to find out.

Finally got through and snagged my copy. I bought Fallout 2 awhile back, but not the first one, so this worked out well. I was just thinking about finally playing these games, too.

Anyone know of any like, graphics update or whatever? Just curious. Even if just to make the interface better to deal with?

I feel a bit cheap since I have had a GOG account for 3 years and never made a purchase. However I think times will change now since I like the sound on the improvements. The place has gotten an impressive catalogue and I am glad that they are extending with indies. Machinarium is one of my favourite games these past years so will definitely put my faith in the developers in delivering.
I will soon go bananas on Little Big Adventure and Heroes and Might and Magic series.

So how does the GOG version of fallout run compared to the steam version? I have both now and wondering if there's any advantage to one or other strictly in terms of performance (not goodies).

I played it

Still don't know what people were upset at Bethesda for

Marked it as owned. Was smart and went to the account this time after it "failed" and got me an error screen before, I didn't forget the four copies of Empire Earth I got.

They should be identical (that is to say, perfect after modding), both versions you'd probably want to use the high res patch to play in a widescreen resolution at the very least. Nothing wrong with just playing it as it is either, but a good number of the bugs can be patched out if you want to. I have links to instructions and the common patches here.

Sweet! Always wanted to play it. I just noticed after I created an account that they give you a bunch of free games already, most notably Beneath a Steel Sky. That's freaking awesome.

MAAAN! After so much refreshes, I found out I already had bought it :(

Well, awesome as always nonetheless!

edit: GoG is working fine btw, it was my torrent downloading... all to add up the cry

Awesome. Never played Fallout, and I just finished BG1 and started into BG2 again, so once I finish that+ToB I'll have another badass oldschool CRPG to Dive into.

Added it to my account for the bonuses.
Well, to be fair, finally having a disc free version without having to patch it in any way could be handy, so that's nice as well.

Very helpful. I salute your effort sir.

Anyone having problems with the gog downloader? It's easier for downloading the extras, but it's just sitting there, doing nothing.

Solved it by changing the compatibility mode to xp sp3. (win7 here)

Agreed. Sure, Fallout 3 isn't as good as 1 or 2 but the alternative was no fallout at all and 3 did a good job at creating the world in 1st person. Without Bethesda New Vegas wouldn't exist and that is imo as good as Fallout 1 and 2, especially with the added dlc arc.

I just booted the game up. Was that narration in the intro by Ron Perlman always there or something Bethesda added themselves? I've never played the game so I don't know.

My first time returning to gog since their 'lol we shut down' joke.

I do like gog's website and account system. I am looking forward to seeing what they do for indies.

It's ok. I know EA and activision corrupted your line of thinking, but they are free for everyone.
Alice is the only EA game I've had to suffer through on PC with its dumb registration. Other than that, they don't get my money. Activision has nothing for me.

But, yeah, pretty cool that GOG gives you free games.
