Fallout: New Vegas is Gold and PC System Requirements

Shhheeeeeeeeeeeeit. I forgot it was Steamworks this time.

I may switch over to a CE pre-order, looks like GS still has them in. Does GS even have release-date shipping?

Curious. Any information on if one version is better then the other? I mean between the PS3 and 360 versions? Anything noticeable via previews?

Any know if FO3 was "enhanced for multicore"? Just curious if FNV will run better on my quad core or pretty much the same.

My money is on pretty much the same.

I have a feeling you're right, still hoping that some optimization might squeeze a little more out of Gamebyro. Either way FO3 ran better on my PC, I should just stick with that.

And you ought to know, Multicore.

I'm hoping that it runs as least as well as Fallout 3. I'm gaming on a laptop so Fallout 3 at middling settings and 1440x900 makes my machine sweat.

is the 3rd view going to suck in this game also?

Can't think of a developed Bethesda game that got the 3rd person view right, so yeah it probably will not be any better.

;) I couldn't stop myself from replying.

Check out this post on another forum about multi-threading in games.

The second image in particular is Fallout 3. Without a major redesign, CPU utilization will be similar.

Can/Can't wait for this - want it now but i am holding out until Xmas and 4 sweet work free weeks to really savour it. It's the only way the previous one could have been any better for me if i'd saved it for the Xmas period instead of buying and playing at launch.

New Perks:

Cowboy

Required Character Level: 14
Required Attributes/Skills: Repair 90
You possess the amazing ability to repair any item using a roughly similar item. Fix a trail carbine with a hunting rifle, a plasma defender with a laser pistol, or even power armor with metal armor. How does it work? Nobody knows…except you.

Rad Child

Required Character Level: 4
Required Attributes/Skills: Survival 70
You truly are a rad child. As you go through the increasingly devastating stages of radiation sickness, you will regenerate more and more health.

Laser Commander

From the humble laser pistol to the mighty Gatling laser, you do plus 15 percent damage and have plus 10 percent chance to critically hit with any laser weapon

Shotgun Surgeon

Required Character Level: 6
Required Attributes/Skills: Guns 45
Your precision with a scattergun is something to behold. When using shotguns, regardless of ammunition used, you ignore an additional 10 points of a target's damage threshold.

Long Haul

Required Character Level: 12
Required Attributes/Skills: Endurance 6, Barter 70

Math Wrath

Required Character Level: 10
Required Attributes/Skills: Science 70
You are able to optimize your Pip-Boy's VATS logic, reducing all AP costs by 10 percent

Pack Rat

Required Character Level: 8
Required Attributes/Skills: Intelligence 5, Barter 70
You have learned the value of careful packing. Items with a weight of two or less weigh half as much for you.

The Professional

Required Character Level: 6
Required Attributes/Skills: Sneak 70
Up close and personal, that's how you like it. Your sneak attack criticals with pistols, revolvers, and submachine guns, whether guns or energy weapons, all inflict an additional 20 percent damage.

Purifier

Required Character Level: 14
As a purifier of the wasteland, you do plus 50 percent damage with melee and unarmed weapons against centaurs, nightstalkers, spore plants, spore carriers, deathclaws, super mutants, and feral ghouls.

Those perks seem to have some pretty heavy skill requirements, especially since skill books no longer give permanent boosts in this game.

Are they capping the level at 30 now?

With regards to the new perks, are there going to be more or are these all?

Anyway, it looks like Math Wrath, Jury Rigging, Cowboy and Professional will work best for me due to my style.

The significance of the Pack Rat is lost on me.

Also, I think the perk, Long Haul could have been combined with Strong back. I guess it's all about balancing.

No these are not all of the perks...just some new ones.

I also read that there are going to be companian perks also.

I really like this perk:

Thanks mate.

After playing Demons Souls for a while and Fallout 3 (without the add-ons) I have to say, I easily chew through the levels. Wish there were more than 30 without paying for it (cause inevitably there will be a new DLC for it that raises the cap again).

Also, how many of you will wait for a while before getting the game? I ask since going by the history, there may be quite few bugs. I am a hardcore fan of F3 but I will wait a while for the "most likely" patches.

I am sure a lot of people will start playing day 1 on pc, relying on console commands to get out of any serious bugs or hitches.

Next week this is out. It is strange to me that I couldn't get into Fallout 3 at all. First, because I love Fallout and second, because I loved Oblivion. I never got much farther than about 5 hours into Fallout 3 because VATS is not fun and real time shooting is even worse. I dunno, once again I am in a weird place because Obsidian makes games that I love but I know that this will be a lot like Fallout 3. I don't know what to do :(

So is there actually anything that makes this game noticeably different than Fallout 3? I'm interested but not really if it's the same thing, new location.

If you didn't like Fallout 3 I think it goes without saying you won't like New Vegas, it is pretty much more of the same.

I for one can't wait.:D

Hardcore mode. The need for water/food, along with bullets adding weight makes it a whole new ballgame.

It's guaranteed to have better writing, mainly because the standard that Bethesda set is rather low and Obsidian always has decent writers.

I feel sorry for people rushing and pre-ordering this game and making nonsense remarks like fkn day 1... did you people see Alpha Protocol ?
Part of the reason why I want this game so bad. Thanks for pointing that out

This is basically what I want someone to swoop in and tell me :lol

I am 99% certain that the story and writing will be far better in this game and that is a huge plus. I know about the hardcore mode and that interest me, as well as the faction stuff and the "different" setting. I don't know, man, I don't know.

Here are the 10 traits you can choose from in the beginning of the game.

Built to Destroy - +3% critical hit chance, Condition decays 15% faster

Fast Shot - fire 20% more quickly, shots are 20% less accurate

Four Eyes - + 1 perception when wearing glasses, -1 perception when not wearing glasses

Good Natured - Increases speech, medicine, repair, science, and barter skills, Decreases your ability with weapons.

Heavy Handed - Melee and unarmed do more damage, Melee and unarmed do less critical hit damage

Kamikaze - +10 Action Points, -2 Damage Threshold

Loose Cannon - Thrown weapons fly 30% faster, Thrown weapons have 25% less range

Small Frame - +1 agility, Fragile limbs

Trigger Discipline - Guns and energy weapons are 20% more accurate, shots are 20% slower

Wild Wasteland - Adds 'wackier' versions of existing content, Adds 'wackier' versions of existing content

I'm buying this game almost entirely because of the writers.

Otherwise I'd view it as an overpriced expansion pack.

Really, a chance for part of the original Fallout team to tell me a new story? I'll buy that for a dollar. Or fifty. Whatever the PC version costs :P

I think that just means fewer areas of vast nothing

Obsidian has been saying it's around the same size. Or comparable size to the Capital Wasteland.

Also waiting for OT :D

Link please. :D

While I cannot link to the article (ages ago), I remember Chris Avalone saying it was roughly the same size as the Map from Fallout 3. I also remember it being disscussed on the beth-forum.

What I can link to though, is this: http://www.bethblog.com/podcast/ "Your Fallout: New Vegas questions are answered, and Obsidian's Feargus Urquhart stops by"

They say the Mojave Wasteland is bigger then the Capital Wasteland.

If you still think that after reading this then I just don't know what to tell you.

It's optional, in any case.

Yea I'll have hardcore on from the start, it brings back some of the sense of danger and survival elements lost in te transition from f2 to f3

Essentially you can carry twice the amount of low-weight items. Stim-packs, drugs, ammunition. Should come in handy.
