Famitsu review scores

This.

And this.

Why IGN? Because they have some strange scores and practices. They need that ad revenue afterall.
It IS plausible the way they do things leans towards the most enthusiastic usually getting to cover a game, and as such is inclined to rate a game highly. Imagine if you mainly only got the people who call whatever GotY to write a review on a forum like this, you would definitely be seeing plenty of 10s and 9s. Which is part of why Famitsu is more blatantly suspect, it's one thing to get the wild fan to rush through a game and score it high before that high wears off (if it does), it's another for 4 people to have similar scores and just write a sentence or two about the game.

For me after Sonic lost world & Wonderful 101 yes i trust them 100% with Japanese games only.

So for you FF XIII-2 and that Yoyo fighting game are nearly perfect games? While something like Demon Souls was scored like shit. They did things like reviewing FF7: Dirge of Cerberus THREE weeks late and then only gave it a 7/7/7/7.
Famitsu reviews for big japanese franchises are usless period, they always suck up to big publishers and devs. Oh and if the games has pretty graphics it always scores high in Famitsu.
Basically read this: http://forums.selectbutton.net/viewtopic.php?t=476

Contrary to what hordes of western gamers believe, people don't "pay" Famitsu for a specific review score. I know this because I have dinner with Famitsu guys once a week. It's more like, a company pays Famitsu "protection money" -- in other words, they pay them to review their games, period. Famitsu -- and most of Japanese journalism, in fact -- is basically just vanity PR. And proud of it!

So what I gather from this thread is that Wii U owners like Famitsu reviews because they give Wii U games high scores and this gives them some reassurance.

Their last 5 40s:
Final Fantasy XIII-2
Kid Icarus: Uprising
Yakuza 5
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure: All Star Battle
Grand Theft Auto V
FF and JoJo aside that's not exactly a shocking list. GTAV and KIU both have been rated highly in other places. Can't speak for Yakuza....

Thanks Sega

It's a shame. Famitsu scores no longer has value unlike back in the 90s and early 2k. I never believe in them. Same applies for Edge Magazine UK.

Does anyone know what magazine or website hold value review scores wise these days? I honestly cannot think of anyone.

Gamecentral is probably my most respected publication these days. They are very frugal with the higher review scores, and in probably 2-3 years of my reading them regularly the only 10/10 I can recall is GTAV. Sometimes there are editorial mistakes and a lack of finesse in the writing, but overall I'd say they're one of the better review sites and they use the full range of scores. I agree with you on Edge as it happens; I used to hold them in really high regard, but not so much these days. When they hand out so many top scores it dilutes the meaning of it. I personally am of the opinion that there are only three games ere deserving of a perfect score (Final Fantasy VII, Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls), and a few more I would have to deliberate over (Alundra, Flower, Journey, Super Metroid, etc).

In my opinions razor version deserve 9/10 it's really nice hardcore game.

But I'm not talking about Razor's Edge; I'm talking about vanilla Ninja Gaiden 3. To hand it such high scores is absolutely laughable.

Similarly, Famitsu have given 39/40 to Resident Evil 6 and Steel Battalion: Heavy Armour 33/40 (take just a minute to digest that score). They just seem to up-score heavily marketed games; especially if they're Japanese.

This makes a lot of sense.
Did Tim Rogers write that? Avatar looks like him, and writing style is similar to his, plus 2006 was a time where he lived in Japan.

Wii Party U
EDGE - 4/10
Famitsu: 34/40

Who's telling the truth?

Considering it's due to release in a couple of days and there are no reviews online yet, I'd say Edge.

But to be completely fair, this is not the kind of game aimed at or made for hardcore gamers or journalists.

While something like Demon Souls was scored like shit.
Holy shit, a 29? By Famitsu standards, that's somewhere between inserting tweezers into your dick and drinking a pint of Chlorox. I didn't even realize their scale went under 30.

Yeah their reviews are weird, and they have weird factors.

I recall reading something like "Sepiroth is cool and awesome! 10/10" for one of the four reviewers in Dissidia.

We've seen statements to the contrary (in regards to IGN being paid off) and nothing confirming it. Meanwhile Famitsu seems to have done the equivalent of stabbing someone in Times Square and not give a fuck who saw them commit a violent murder.

That's what I suspected, I really haven't seen any evidence of IGN being paid off. When I used to listen to the Beyond podcast, they were openly critical of Sony's bad decisions so there's that.

I mean the only time there's a fed flag of something fishy is when there is a huge deviation from what the rest of gamers and critics are saying about a particular game (EGM's review of Colonial Marines) of course it's not smoking gun proof but it is incredibly peculiar especially when they made blatantly false statements in the review
