Animal Crossing Switch 1 and 2 versions still selling almost the same amount each week, doesn't make any sense

Can we all agree at this point that PS5 is a flop in Japan?
Not talking about US & EU region. Thats a total different story.
not a flop. This is just the price they paid for big games.

Nintendo is great, because people want small games. Those kids have full time jobs and dont have time for tv.

It's still one of the best selling consoles in Japan.

PS3 sold 10 million, PS4 sold 9.5 and PS5 is currently sitting at 7.5. Hardly a flop.
The issue is that probably half of the PS5 sold in Japan are in mainland China right now, so that PS5 sales numbers don't indicate the real situation of the PlayStation brand in Japan.

One has to wonder what pokopia is at worldwide right now, if its at 1million+ in Japan already. With a 50% digital split.

Huge numbers.

PS5 still gets the big games even if the Switch (1 lol) still absolutely destroys it in terms of its lower budget library. I could go on Amazon Japan and just find dozens of Japan-only obscure RPGs, visual novels, arcade style games which just aren't on PS5 but are still being released on Switch 1. I've got new Switch releases on pre-order until the end of August this year. The Switch really beat PlayStation at its own game and got all those low budget weird Saturn, Vita and PC doujin kind of games which until the Switch came along had basically never really appeared on Nintendo consoles. Switch doesn't have the technical specs but it has the chops in terms of library for the Japanese market. Switch games are going to be mentioned around in collectors and second hand circles for years to come. I highly doubt it for PS5.

Are there metrics for other pokemon spinoffs?
Here are some launch-week numbers for Switch entries:

Its not a flop. Its just that switch 2 is an absurdly successful system there
First data by Nintendo are 2.2m in 4 days, but we know the game has been severely undersupplied and word of mouth has been awesome since launch, so I'd expect it to gain momentum in coming weeks and have huge legs.

Those aren't even close. Who knew Pokémon + Animal Crossing could be an explosive combination? Nintendo, you cheeky bastards!

Yeah, I've seen this image floating around with (worldwide) top spin-off LTD numbers:

Seems very likely Pokopia will outsell them all.

How the heck they didn't predicted the demand of a Pokemon game is beyond me.

Anyway, as usual great performance by Nintendo. Nicely done.

Yeah, i imagine software sales were far healthier in Japan on PS3 and PS4 than this current generation.

Considering even a fantastic game like biohazard hasn't been able to make a massive dent in hardware sales for ps5 I can't see how it's going to reach 10 mil any time soon maybe if Sony keeps it going for another 5 years. Because at this point in it's life 15k a week is piss poor.

The physical to digital ratio is 0:∞ because it's a key card :messenger_grimmacing_
Man, this shit is as old as a Hall and Oates concert. If we're splitting hairs, any physical game that has any required download shouldn't be counted as physical.

But there's no need to split hairs. As far as I'm concerned if you have to download the totality of the game into your own local memory, that's a digital product, regardless of if the license of use has a physical form of not.

We'll just have to agree to disagree on that one. I see it as all the same.

So is RE switch 2 still undersupplied? Lol
The Switch 2 version is still out of stock, but it doesn't matter since Pokopia alone is bigger than RE9 in terms of sales volume.

Top 5 best-selling retail games in 2026 (estimate)
1. Pokopia - 2.5m
2. Tomodachi Life - 1.5m
3. Splatoon raiders - 1m
4. Mario Kart World - 550k
5. Fire emblem: Fortune weave - 450k
