Software & Hardware Weekly Sales] “Unicorn Overlord” V2 achieved! New releases include “Macross: Shooting Insight” in the top 10 [3/11-3/17]

Sales ranking announced by Famitsu. This time we bring you a summary of estimated weekly game software and hardware sales from March 11th to March 17th, 2024.

The completely new simulation RPG Unicorn Overlord has been ranked number one for two weeks in a row. This title got off to a good start with the manufacturer issuing a notice and apology that the packaged version was out of stock and the Nintendo Switch version has been selling well this week as well.

Next in second place was Final Fantasy VII Rebirth the second installment of the Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy.

Furthermore in 5th place was Mario vs. Donkey Kong and in 6th place was Fit Boxing feat. Hatsune Miku -Exercise with Miku which ranked 7th among titles released between February and March.

The next game that caught my attention was Macross -Shooting Insight. This is a shooting game that takes advantage of the world view of the monumental science fiction anime Macross series. Additional downloadable content was also released on the same day, and as a game that can be played for a long time, we can expect continued sales.

Really good drop for Unicorn Overlord! Vanillaware are one if those devs that were slow to adapt to Switch success, but they got there in the end.

Why such low sales last week?
Was wondering the same thing. UO top with 16k units just looks odd. I haven’t kept up with sales in a while but can’t remember the last time it looked like this for software sales.
Spring tends to be a slow period for consoles unless there's a holiday.

And unlike most March months in recent years, there's been no big Switch releases.

Sooo happy to see Unicorn Overlord on top….It’s crazy how addictive this has become for me….i loved FFVII Rebirth but haven’t touched that game since UO came out I just can’t stop playing it.

I wish rebirth sold as well as remake in Japan, its honestly the best game i've played in a long time. I just finished it today after over 100 hours and by god, i adored it.

Its biggest issue for people is probably how daunting it is, its a long ass game and its huge and even when you think you finished every region, it opens up more.

I have no interest in playing UO until i get through Rise of the Ronin and Dragons Dogma 2, but its great that its selling relatively well in japan, still wish it was more than 56k.

Yeah, same, although I put a small pause on my playthrough since I wanted to play a bit of Dragon's Dogma 2.

Nearly 100k physical copies have been sold already, btw! :D

JEZUZ CARST Switch is just outright dominating in software. And given what we know about the Japanese market, digital is a notably smaller factor there compared to other regions, so it's not like what few PS4/PS5 software charting is doing 70% or even 50% of their sales digitally, on average.

Sony simply doesn't have an appeal solution for the Japanese market, not without some handheld. PS Portal is their best go (currently) but it's both in limited supply and still requires a console which on its own is a lot more expensive than Switch. In fact PS5 & Portal combined probably cost more than some of the PC handheld solutions on the market there, especially those like the Steam Deck.

Honestly don't know what Sony's going to do once Switch 2 releases there, it'll probably be a bloodbath. Xbox is already dead in Japan so that's whatever.

No new releases and is going to be worse in the upcoming weeks, consoles are in sharp declive WW.

Xbox is in sharp decline WW. PS5 held steady here in US for Feb YOY to the point where the -2% is a statistical margin of error. Held well in Europe for that matter. Switch is literally in the tail end of its lifecycle so sales would naturally start winding down. They'll bounce right back up with Switch 2.

Xbox is the one seeing unnatural, sharp declines WW barely halfway into the gen, and dragging down growth of the console market with it.
