Switch 2 is getting massive hardware sales boost pre price hike, which I think is coming next week?

Even if it goes down to 25K next week, these last two weeks have sold 4 times the normal, and will do good in covering the coming low number weeks.

Upcoming weeks headline news: Switch 2 sales collapses in Japan, the hype is over, Nintendo is Doomed.

Lol, with this and last week they sold like an extra 350k with people rushing to grab one before price goes up.

They'll sell less than this in the whole month of June.

Tomadachi numbers getting down very slowly is insane.
Also PS5 seems to be out of top 10 this time and its sales are abysmal except for the DE which is literally carring it. If SW2 continues to sell despite increases then its gonna be impossible to stop it.

+144%? Damn. Don't think I've ever seen a post-launch Pokémon sales spike like that after the initial hype train. But yeah, Tomodachi Life is absolutely ridiculous. I'm not even into life sim games, but my two daughters are, so I'll probably end up picking up a copy for them.

I used a voucher on it and my daughter loves it. It's a very funny game.

PS5 has had a 11 % market share in Japan year to date. I guess you would need to go back to the Famicom years for 1 company to have as much of a market share in console sales as Nintendo have now in Japan.

No way it goes down to 25K LOL!

I don't even think the numbers will be that low next week or the next few weeks. You gotta consider it this way: Switch popularity/demand in Japan has been magnitudes higher than PlayStation, and even during "slow" periods they still comfortably outsold PlayStation hardware by several times.

Considering PS5 is averaging sub-10K weeklies, I don't see a worst-case for Switch 2 that's below 40K weekly. I think that's a safe expectation for a low-end, and likely they'll trend somewhat higher. But lower? Can't see it.

I'm just going with my gut tho and considering relative levels of popularity between the two platforms seen in the past, and still seen now.

I thought it wasn't going up until September?

That's for us gringos. Japan got hit with the increase much sooner prob because they've been heavily subsidized since launch.

Even with the increase tho I think they'll be cheaper than we'll be once our prices go up.

Famitsu made an article about Xbox series passing 700k sales in Japan, now in reality some of that growth is very likely exports, but still there was some growth compared to Xbox One.

I do think its likely that PS lost some of their audience to Xbox series in Japan, which is part of the explanation why PS5 declined from PS4 there. Xbox probably took at least 5 % of the previous remaining PS audience in Japan during the past 6 years due to the very similar software library as well as gamepass.

So one could say PS has been under attack from 3 fronts in Japan during the last 10 years:

* Nintendo attacking by becoming a natural home for some PS fans who liked the more Japanese dominated PS1, PS2 generations. Now Nintendo is the home of games like Momotaro, which in past decades would have been on PS instead as an example.
* PC attacking due to the growth of Steam.
* Xbox attacking mostly by cannibalizing the already declining PS audience by offering mostly the same games as well as gamepass.

Most of PS problems stems from losing exclusivity of Japanese third party games, thus having little identity of its own left in Japan, which means a Japanese Monster Hunter fan can easily just migrate to PC or even Xbox series instead. Xbox series now has roughly 10 % of the market share of PS5 in Japan, which is a lot compared to the market share difference in Japan during the PS4 and the Xbox one generation, and that happened during the same time as Xbox declined hugely everywhere else instead, which kind of illustrates how weak PS position is in Japan that even Xbox could grow their market share relative to PS5 there.
