Famitsu thread of Persona 4 raditude

Himuro said:
They've been using Kaneko's demon designs since the 32 bit era

Maybe its not all that bad then...I mean we've been seeing Malboro,Tonberry,Cactuar, and Bombs for quite awhile now. Though once SMT4 hits(planned for PS3 right?), I expect at least abit more detail on the demons.

I liked the gun thing for more than that. I thought it worked very well symbolically. It was like temporarily killing the ego to bring forth the id.
People who wear glasses have no ego, confirmed.

I swear I have some sort of ego T_T

I suspect this time there will be a reversal of roles, in fact it might look something like this by July:

<Bebpo> WHAT THE FUCK THIS GAME LOOKS SO BAD WHAT IS THIS
<everyone else> It looks like how Persona 3 looks.
<Bebpo> THE GRAPHICS ARE AWFUL
<everyone else> Oh please. Based off small scan screens and a trailer?
<Bebpo> FUCK THIS GAME. SMT HAS SOLD OUT. THIS GAME LOOKS LIKE A TOTAL STEP BACK FROM PERSONA3

the game is released

<everyone else> DISAPPOINTMENT TOTAL

I wonder if the music during the battle system scenes near 13 minute mark is the normal battle music. Its really nice.
That'd be awesome, it was one of the best pieces in the trailer (it sounded like something from SMT3 :D ).

Regarding my earlier comments about the music I was just hoping for something a bit different to play during the day due to the change in setting. Hey! Maybe since weather is theme now maybe the social aspect will be different and we'll hear more varying types of music... ? Okay, I'm not going to get my hopes up too much for that happening, I'll just hope for more suspenseful and rock pieces instead. :lol

No, it's the translation/localization, programming in correctly, then QAing it that will take a long time.
I see. For some reason I always had the impression that the voice work took up the bulk of time. How big was P3's localization team?

Yes, sad that Atlus USA, for some silly reason, actually puts English voices in a game, instead of having Japanese voices only, thus assuring that SCEA will actually give approval to said game.

What are those dunderheads thinking??
My intended thought was that it is unfortunate for the consumer in which it does not concern. Your absolutely right in what you say, I simply want the game ASAP. :)

Watched the trailer again. A few comments:

-When he gets sucked into the TV, his clothing changes, unless they edited together different parts of the game but made it appear continues.

-When I watch episode 6 or 7 of Trinity Soul, I was all like "OMG Kuma-san better be a playable character in P4!" I got my wish, but its a different Kuma-san.

-For a while, I thought Kuma only appeared in the TV world, but there's a yellowified scene where the shadows come out of the Red/Black portal. Is Yellow-hour this game's version of the Dark-Hour, or is all of the action within the TV Land?

-Music that starts around 13ish in the scene with the evil clone is likely one of the boss musics.

-Summoning Personae from cards rather than being an innate spiritual trait gives credence to the idea that your teammates get to change Persona 4; who knows if there will be mid-battle changes, though. No hints regarding that at all.

-The Japanese small town looks gorgeous. There's the one scene where they are standing on the road, and there's the power lines far in the distance as the trees blow slightly.

-Weather can change midday; the forecast shows morning and night weather.

-Kuma is the only character who's health and portrait get highlighted in battle without being encircled by COMMAND. NPC =( He appears as a character in some battles, but seems to take Fuuka's annoying announcer role. Boo to having any sort of announcer, including one with an annoying voice.

-The address at the end of the video isn't working yet, because this video was leaked prior to the official release of that edition of the magazine.

Oh, and because people asked...
DDS enemies are the same demons as Noctune, same models, with some new additions. The newer enemies are a bit more detailed.
Devil Summoner used some of the same demons, but the models were mostly different, probably due to the animation needed for an action RPG.
Persona 3 used completely new enemies, though some of the Personae based on old enemies used the DDS/Nocturne models.
Persona 4 looks to have completely new enemy models. The new personae look to have vastly improved animation, though we know little about the returning ones except that they'll likely use the same models.

So, did anyone else notice that some of these bosses are twisted/evil versions of the player characters?

Besides the first clone, we also see a monstrous form of the mascot-guy and another boss that looks to be an "evil" form of the girl's Persona.

This thread inspired me to watch the Persona anime... which actually isn't half-bad.
It would be alot better, too, if they picked up the pace and explained anything. Speaking of whichl, Ryou uses his glasses to summon his Persona in the first episode. Possible P4 connection?

Yeah... the pace could be a lot quicker. Considering it's 26 episodes and all...

I hope that music is a recurring battle theme then, not just for one boss or something. Also I guess the card system might be similar to Persona 2? I was reading the manual awhile ago, and it seems like all the characters can cycle through persona as well.

Also how is Trinity Soul anyway?

Just finished watching to episode 11, which I believe is all it has aired to. I'm enjoying it... it could be better and explain things a lot faster/clearer, but I do like what I've seen so far.

I need a J-PS2 :| Anyone know what they're running for now in approximate USD conversions?

This game will be a gold mine for Otaku into the megane/glasses look. Artbooks, calendars, posters, you name it. Slap the girls in various clothes with the glasses on and it's rollin' in the dough. O.o

doujinshi boatride to megane tengoku for the win is the otaku pride

both of them are soooo appealing

"Ah, these clothes? Were you surprised? I had to wear them for something at home, so..."
"Ah, nice to meet you... uh.... sory to bring this up so soon, but..."

the black haired girl reminds me a lot of Mokoto in Love Hina. that was my favorite char in Love Hina. so i guess that's why I like that char design from P4 so much.

Shy Japanese girl. Shy Japanese girl never changes.

I support this post.

After a second and third viewing of the trailer, I at first wasn't a fan of the yellow fog, but now, I realize that it really helps mold the theme. It did seem, though, like anything involving the mist would be quite hard to see...hope there aren't any dungeons with over-much of it.

+1

the "command" text spins around a lot of the characters. maybe you can switch which of the four you control, or even control all of them? an option would be awesome.

I'm going nuts here. I need to calm down.

(edit: i liked my incorrect translations better :c)

If that is the P4 announcement, the game will be out sometime this year, or at least the bullshit 'expected release' will be. I can't recall Atlus USA announcing a game for US release 10 months in advance. If I recall properly, they waited until like October to announce a P3 release of March-ish, which got pushed back.

With regards to the 180+ Personae, I think that is a decent hint that you can change your teammates personae. That would be an awfully large number for just one person to potentially use, and since they seem to be fixing most of what people hated in P3, it would be only natural.

Not really, Fes had 160+ personae all for the main character. What's an extra 20 or so gonna do.

I liked Yukari. I even maxed her S.Link.

what a shame I could never max the Sun Arcana S.Link. it was a very interesting one, got it to rank 9.

I liked Yukari. It's just that...she was always mean to Junpei and you know how much I love Junpei. :(

You didn't even need to do anything for that one besides show up 10 times, did you just run out of time, and not want to play through again?

yes, I decided to spend my last sunday with Mitsuru :(

Sun Commu Epilogue in Fes is good.

We got three Arcana known for P4 already. Chie = Chariot, Little Girl = Justice, Ichijou (soccer dude) = Strength. At least, that's what I recall. I'm kind of tired. If all things fall into place, Yukiko is likely going to be Empress or Priestess. However, I thought she might be Temperance too for some reason.

Just saw the trailer and am EXTREMELY disappointed...

...that I couldn't understand it D: Other than that, total fangasm =D Very similar in style to P3, and that's a great thing =D Now to wait for the localization *sigh* DAMN my impatience.

Fuuuuuck yes.

Also, I'm not sure if this has been pointed out, but I'm 90% sure that the headphones that are worn by a couple of characters are based on these:

wishlist for P4:

- better dungeonS (after seeing the trailer looks like this is the case..... there are DOORS which is a vast improvement over tartarus :D also there's a "B8F" near the end of the trailer....). What would be good would be some 30-40 floors dungeons, a new one every month or two. Some puzzles would be fine, too, even if it's randomized shouldn't be too hard to put a pre-designed room or two somewhere along the line.

- better S-link management. I know this is not a date simulator, but i really liked the social aspect of the game. What i disliked in P3 about s-links was the fact that it was basically a "gotta catch'em all" with real people. Except for pissing off characters (esp. women) there was basically not much to see (sure, the sunday dates, the presents, etc), but what i would like to see is some sort of branching paths depending on which relationship you improved. Like, if you get a gf stop the "i max her then move on" bs (i'm a faithful person :lol), or making friends with someone voiding the possibility to get another, different friend, etc.
So that even dialogues OUTSIDE of the s-link would matter depending on the choices you've made, so that main storyline dialogues would change (i mean, if i woo-ed yukari all the time, shouldn't be too hard to put a final cutscene between the two characters.... or even slight alterations during normal dialogues). The fact that there are multiple ending could be a starting point anyway..... i know this would be a completist nightmare, so i'm not holding my breath.

- less enemy color-swapping. In p3 there were many personas with unique designs but the dungeon enemies were under the 20-some count, i think. Even the bosses were recolored version of normal enemies. Let's hope atlus doesn't go cheap this time.

- something to do at night (i know this is partially addressed in FES, but....), like the possibility of visiting all of the town at nighttime, maybe with others characters as well..... you know, i would have liked to go karaoke with others instead of that solo-ing all the time. Or seeing a movie with others, etc.

I hope playing Fes will help calm down my anticipation instead of rising it.

But I already know the answer...
