that was the MediaCreate Top 500.

I'd help out but since this always takes so long for me (sucky Japanese skills and all), we should divide it up in some ways. Did someone already start translating?

Someone post that pie graph gif of Nintendo consuming Sony.

Seems extremely felicitous for this situation.

EDIT: and rest in peace Next gen.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
I've found some pretty interesting numbers with goold old Google Translate, but I'll just wait and let the pro's do it.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Thanks Captain- great work ,and is definitely appreciated.

Wow, some games did better than I'd realized. TWEWY and Tales of Innocence seem to be declared Japanese bombas quite often, but those look like respectable numbers to me. And for some reason I just didn't realize Fire Emblem and Hotel Dusk were quite that big either.

Wow, did not know MH was that popular in Japan at all. 0.o

And Dragon Quest IV released pretty late in 2007 right? It's probably normal for a game in the main series, but it's amazing to me it made it to the top 10.

Face palmed at Mario Party on both counts, glad Hotel Dusk and Layton seem to have performed well, yet there doesn't seem to be many follow ups in the same vein.

I hope you're proud, Nintendo. More people buy a $70 plastic plank over your biggest killer-app.

What? Nintendo's biggest killer-app is at place 01.

Wow, some games did better than I'd realized. TWEWY and Tales of Innocence seem to be declared Japanese bombas quite often, but those look like respectable numbers to me. And for some reason I just didn't realize Fire Emblem and Hotel Dusk were quite that big either.

TWEWY had an initial shipment of 200,000 units. It was never restocked. It was not an ASH-level bomb where the price had to be massively massively reduced just to move stock, but it still never got a restock which basically indicates that it did not meet expectations.

Tales of Innocence is a mixed bag. Basically, both ToI and TotT were massive declines for the series. TotT was a total piece of shit, so people pretty much accept that the poisonous word of mouth stunted the game. ToI is by all accounts a return to form; people were expecting that it'd exhibit substantial growth over TotT in order to reverse the backslide the series has been going for. While it's not a bomb in the sense that it totally tanked, it didn't deliver the results we were expecting. The new hypothesis is that Tales of Innocence is basically in the same position than Devil May Cry 3 was; limited because it was a great followup to a poor/mediocre predecessor that hurt the series IP.

It remains to be seen whether or not the next DS Tales game can bring the numbers or whether or not 200k is a sort of fixed-quantity for Tales games on the DS.

I see what you did there. But you should guess I'm not part of the audience who considers Wii Sports a killer-app. It's a tech demo.

A killer-app doesn't have to be good or deep. It just has to sell consoles.

I'd say Wii Sports is the very definition of a killer app. Perhaps the most suitable ever.

Face palmed at Mario Party on both counts, glad Hotel Dusk and Layton seem to have performed well, yet there doesn't seem to be many follow ups in the same vein.

Layton has already had one followup in Japan ("and Pandora's Box/the Devil's Box") and the second followup ("and the Last Time Travel") should be out fairly soon. It's a smash success for L5, especially given that it's their first self-published title.

As for Hotel Dusk, it's in and of itself a followup to Cing's previous game, Trace Memory / Another Code. Cing is now working on Little King Story, so it's unlikely that it'll have a followup this year, although I'm sure Cing would love to do another adventure game and I'm sure Nintendo would love to publish another one.

TOSE is working on a title called Wander Donkey for Nintendo which appears to be a graphic adventure game. Basically, it's about a Donkey called Wander who lives in an Oasis and tries to determine the mystery of his lineage and learn more about the town he lives in. It was supposed to be a 2007 title, so obviously either it's been delayed bigtime or there was development trouble or it was cancelled, since Nintendo's already shown their June/July/August titles for Japan and there's no mention of it yet.

Why is Excite Truck listed twice under different pubs? Have I missed something here.

The one in 154th is One Piece: Unlimited Adventure. The second listing, under Nintendo, is correct. Don't trust automatic translations. The "Red Steel" in 44th is WarioWare: Smooth Moves as well. Also, "My Household Diary" is published by Nintendo, not Sony--in case you were wondering why Sony were listed as publishing a DS title.

Fire Emblem Wii also sold a bit better than it's predecessor on the GC and finally broke the downwards trend the FE series had been caught in since Seisen no Keifu for the SNES.
