The Mega Man X scores are crazy. That's the best Mega Man game by a good margin imo
Cant argue with the top two, but its all downhill from therefrom best to worst....
The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past: 39
Final Fantasy VI: 37
F-Zero: 37
Fire Emblem: Mystery of the Emblem: 36
Super Mario World: 34
Star Fox: 34
Yoshi's Island: 33
Secret of Mana: 33
Super Mario Kart: 32
Super Metroid: 32
Super Mario RPG: 32
Kirby Super Star: 32
Donkey Kong Country: 31
Super Formation Soccer: 31
Super Street Fighter II: 30
Panel de Pon: 29
Contra III: 28
Ganbare Goemon: 27
Super Ghosts and Ghouls: 27
Mega Man X: 26
First thought I had as well. Some of those reviews are just....strange.Mega Man X's genius was underappreciated back then.
I'm curious as to what the reception of SMW was at the time it came out. Obviously one of the greatest games of all time but could see why consumers maybe weren't as high on it at the time as reviewers compared to something totally different and fresh like Sonic.
Yoshi's Island score is way too high.
I hadn't even noticed Metroid's straight 8s.
Straight up unnacceptable.
Well, Yoshi's Island is the better game. Plenty of more powers than SMW, its own unique brand of platforming, and an instantly recognizable and endearing children's storybook aesthetic. I love the hell out of Yoshi's Island. Before the recent Rayman games it was p. much the undisputed king of 2D platformers imo.
I hope you arent suggesting the recent Rayman games are the undisputed kings of 2D platformers.

Can't disagree with MMX. Just never felt as fun to me as the old games. Starting with literally half your health bar an having to scavenge around for the rest of it was never cool to me.
Everyone knows Tropical Freeze's got that shit on lock down.
I don't care that they gave F-Zero 10 and SMW 8, but LttP blew my mind as a kid and is a true masterpiece. It's one of those few games I can go back and play anytime and still get that feeling of excitement. It deserved a perfect score.

Thanks for reminding how much I hate subtanks. I guess, maybe, they're sorta, somewhat functional if ya farm and / or never get hit? E-tanks were 1 use but ya could hold up to 9 I think? Plus going back into a stage to refill on 'em was never nearly as bad as subtankk farming. E-tanks for life!I never felt like the smaller lifebar was a problem due to the refillable Sub tanks, which are much more useful and versatile than the E-tanks from original MM, which were one use consumables.

8/8/8/8 for Super Metroid feels right to me. That game, like so many on the SNES showed how you could technically improve every aspect of a game, and create a polished and still fun game, yet still be a weaker experience. See also, Zelda 3, Super Mario World, and Super Punch Out. Outside of Nintendo developed games, Castlevania IV and Final Fantasy II and III also fell into the same trap. F-Zero is still a 10.
More recent examples include Mass Effect 2, and Destiny 2.
I feel personally attacked by the hate towards F-Zero here. Game was revolutionary and still holds up today (much better than Super Mario Kart Id say).
+The 8s for Super Mario World, THE BEST GAME, say it's a good game but not a big jump from Mario 3.
He also said it's better than Link to the Past.
It's just a troll, ignore the bait.
Turbo is BY FAR the one to get, though. Super was a completely stupid iteration. Thank god Super Turbo fixed it, shame it never came to SNES.
Yes! I'm bad at games an MMX is among the ones I'm really bad at! Wouldn't say I'm any good at the NES MM's but they're not tormentingly hard for me like MMX always is!Were you an enemy magnet or something? Aside from that one part in Sigma 1 (everyone knows which one I'm talking about), enemies are really easy to avoid. And if you're finding yourself too overwhelmed, there's always the super function of Chameleon Sting to bail you out of literally everything.

I say this at every possible opportunity, but GAF heavily overrates how well Super Metroid has aged. I'm not sure I'd even rank in the top 5 Metroid games.

This seems crazy to me. I have always thought X was wayyy easier than the original 6. That's a big part of why I've always liked it. I could never beat the originals as a kid, without game genie. Never had much trouble at all with X.
idk. Couple of years ago I ran through the whole MM Anniversary Collection disc with about as much trouble as normal. Popped in the MMX AC disc and tried to get through X and just couldn't. Didn't even have the heart to try any of the others again!Wat
The NES Megamans are way harder than X.
