No they aren't connected. Generally have silent/ minimal-talk protagonist. Overthrowing a powerful villian who controls a huge army and holds a small beautiful looking nation is the general theme of FC3 and FC4. Farcry1 had mutant and stuff tho.

Trailer was fantastic. One of the best cut trailers I've seen. The game however, just seems more of Far Cry 3. That got pretty redundant midway through the game.

Damn UbiSoft trailers ALWAYS get me to buy their games though. I somehow resisted Watch Dogs.
