Far Cry 5 keyart revealed

Why do you people think

A) The enemies in this game are trump voters?

and

B) Trump voters will hate this game?

The average American that is a Trump voter despises religious nutjobs just as much as you do, and if you equate the antagonists in this game to your average christian trump supporter you are absolutely delusional.

Hell just look at how well Justified did? Was pretty much a show about a white guy taking on fucked up skin head rednecks.

My brothers are both Trump voters and they will be all over this game.

You are basically going up against the Super Westboro Baptist Church in this game, or some crazy ass doomsday cult. Is that how you see everyone across the isle from you?
Pretty much how I feel. This thread is pretty telling how much the IQ level of this site has dropped. Either that, or just how ugly people can be.

No idea why some patriotic white Christian Americans are automatically offended by this. Crazy white racist militia exist but that doesn't mean you're the same as them.

I haven't heard anything. Many on GAF are saying Christians will be offended by it, with little to no evidence at this point as to why other than the fact that the group in the game MIGHT be Christian.

Last I checked, militias and religious cults, while sharing voting tendencies with the rest of right, are relatively few in number in the grand scheme of things and are not exactly liked by the rest of their right wing (by vote) peers.

A church (not specifically Christian, but still), Last Supper reference, and the dog has what looks like a cross marking on its face
True, still funny how there are plenty of shooters with militant Islam villains already and when one features militant Christians some people lose their shit.

I think some may end up being disappointed as it seems like they're completely convinced of this having a racist angle. It certainly could have one, but the guy that leaked the concept didn't say anything about that. He compared the antagonist group to being something like the religious cults that Jim Jones and David Koresh led. So, you might want to dial back hopes for a racist angle for now.

Christ, people. This is a very striking setup and I'm excited for the game, but you need to pump the brakes on this "wow, so brave!!" stuff. Roasting middle-American cults/paramilitary compounds isn't controversial or rare. The game itself (or trailers, etc) might rock the boat a little more, who knows, but people assuming this game is going to Stick It To The Right Wing In General Damn How Badass are on another planet.

The villain character will be a charismatic and completely unhinged cult nutjob in a way that will be clearly villainous to everyone. It's a Far Cry game and Ubisoft wants a jillion sales. Most right-leaning players won't bat an eyelid. Some will, but it will not be the massive controversy some people seem to be hoping for. Do we go "oooooh, damn!!!!!!! the left-leaning crowd will HATE this!!!" whenever games feature communist dictators or whatever?

Predictions:

-This game will never actually say the words "left" or "right"
-This game will end on some sort of Both Sides Are Just As Bad shit

The Bioshock Infinite of 2017

Of course. This game isn't going to deliver a deep "Anti-Trump" message or any message beyond "Yo drugs and evil cultists are bad". Ubisoft still wants this to sell millions of copies.
But it's fun to think about it that way.

On second thought, I'm actually most excited to see how angry this game is going to make some people.

Lol. Ubi better not back down. I'm buying day one.

Are we looking at the same key art? Cause that shit is filled with it.

Yeah there are many clear references to Christianity here.

I don't know if they will outright label this group as Christian, though they very well might, but its going to be very clear they are a radical offshoot of it regardless. The cross, the church, the teasers with them singing Amazing Grace, The Last Supper etc. Its very blatant

The persecution complex is hilarious considering there isn't a single symbol of Christianity in the keyart. Self-fulfilling prophecy I suppose.

Main villain is seated in front of an open bible with a church in the background and a bound prisoner has "sinner" carved into his back.

Sorry to break it to you, but even if that's not how Trump voters are, that's certainly right about what Trump voters supported with their vote.

Agree with your predictions.

However, in our current political environment, which is supremely fractured, its hard not to see these extreme ideals serve as a proxy for more moderate thought.

It doesn't matter if its not representative - people will naturally identify with key themes in this. See the thread screen grab posted above. Its going to happen, and its not necessarily a reflection of how the left sees the right or vice versa.

And that's not even touching how the "right" in America is kind of closer to this kind of radicalism that you're post really intimates.

To be fair, nothing shows that that's a bible or a catholic church, and "sinner" is a descriptor that extends past Christianity and religion in general.

The alt-right is unfortunately a thing, and Trump is their rallying figure. I'm all aboard this game throwing the "Islam is evil" bullshit they spew in their faces. Maybe some of them will research the actual groups the game is based on and realize that small groups of people use religions to project power.

Painting with a broad brush is always dumb, but this concept for a game setting isn't being brought out of obscurity by Ubisoft. Racism and nationalism are very topical right now for very clear and obvious reasons.

Agreed. And knowing Ubisoft, I expect a cartoony representation regardless of the subject tackled.

@FarCry updated its Twitter avatar and background.

Even if it's just window dressing, the imagery this game is putting out is powerful.

The last Far Cry game I played was FC2, and have had ZERO INTEREST in the series since then...

But this image has my interest piqued. Unique setting. Interesting story setup. Looking forward to the reveal.

Wouldn't get too excited about the political commentary of a fucking UbiSoft game. Damn near sure this will end up like Bio shock Infinite and go full on "actually both sides are the same"

Ubi will get everyone. Democrats will love it because they will think the enemies are caricatures of Trump voters, while Republicans will love it for the "man takes matters into his own hands and delivers violent justice" hero archetype.

There will be fools whining from both sides of course (bu..bu..Christians, bu bu...vigiliante), but those people don't buy games anyway :D
