Far Cry Instincts Predator Screens

Initially, I was very disappointed with the 360 version of Far Cry. However, after viewing some of the newly released screens, and watching the video (at the other Age), I stand corrected. The 360 port isn't a lazy port, gives gives plenty of bang for the buck when you consider that it's basically two games in one. Oh, and let's not forget the water. I ran Far Cry on my PC at the highest settings, and was blown away when I did, but the water alone in the 360 version is worth $60. Does this game have online play?

yep it has a bunch of MP maps and gameplay types, it also has a map editor

can someone please post a link to that video because the current one isn't working. I would be very happy :)

The video with the nice water.

Please don't get all pissed at me but when I downloaded it with my bittorrent client and then played it, something popped up and said

"Windows Media Player cannot play the file. One or more codecs required to play the file could not be found."

HELP.

I beleive it's a mov file, isn't it? (I could be wrong...but I remember playing it in quicktime).

Play it in quicktime, or quicktime alternative. If you don't have either, then I'd suggest quicktime alternative. Hope that helps.

People who say Far Cry on 360 "looks like dog shit" need to find a videogame that looks significantly better. Comparing it to a PC game that is 2 years old and still one of the most visually impressive games released thus far is stupid. If this looks like shit, show us something that looks good.

Well, don't you think it's reasonable to expect games on a next gen system to look better than current gen hardware?

show me a current gen game (xbox/ps2/gc) that looks better

I'd point you to a PC, actually. It's not as compelling of a point, but I like my console software to be unlike anything I've seen. Far Cry here doesn't achieve that. It seems that the 360 is still waiting for that big wave of software innovation that comes with the launch of new hardware. I can see it starting to appear for the system in March, but it seems to have caught on slower than usual.

Awesome video. I'm a little lazy now but is this a port, sequel or expansion or what? I've beaten Instincts already.

probably, but PC gaming sucks nuts so i'm not going to count it. you can spend hundreds or thousands of dollars fixing up your system every 6 months to make any game look awesome. i'm just talking about console games. not trying to start shit with the PC crowd, but i personally don't like playing games on pc.

i also have a question about this game. people say it comes with the xbox version. is it on the 360 disk (i.e. technically a 360 game)? or are they including BC and giving you the Xbox disk? how is that going to work?

if they're including it on the disk, more companies should do that to overcome MS's crappy BC schedule :(

The waves are great, I hope they use the effect in Crysis (improved of course)
From your post I got the impression that you seem to think that Crysis and Far Cry Instincts Predator have the same developer. Well, that's not true. Crysis uses CryENGINE 2 and is being developed by Crytek, the same company that did the original Far Cry (PC). Instincts series use a different engine (do they still use a modified CryENGINE 1?) and are being developed by Ubisoft's internal production houses.

Thats why I think Crytek will improve the effect ;-)

Seriously, Crsis seem to do a lot thats not in FC:I Predator (yet), so probably Crysis will have some really great water too.

That's a interesting question that I've been pondering for a while; is Crytek going to do ocean, rivers etc. with geometric or with normal mapped only solution...

Someone @ Rage3D forums suggested that FC:IP water is done with Parallax Mapping: http://www.rage3d.com/board/showpost.php?p=1334169728&postcount=42

hhmmm...the waves just disappearing in the distance would IMO speak against (an incredibly advanced) texture effect. Advanced mapping effects usually show problems when you come close or when interacting with other objects.

it is likely some kind of animated fractal style pattern as a normal map placed on top of a deforming mesh. Likely a spec map on there too to make the water glint the way it does.
