FarCry 2 Teaser Site Open

Ubisoft Montreal is doing the development, and I'm pretty sure they are NOT using CryEngine2 based off their lack of licensing it.

These are the same people that did FarCry Instincts

Wasn't the big draw for FarCry it's water? Maybe my geography is not up to snuff, but I am pretty sure that there is little water in the Grasslands of Africa.

Not really. The draw was the scope, and partially the environment, which was much more colorful than your average FPS. Nicely done water was part of that, no doubt, but I don't think most people were booting up Far Cry and exclaiming, "look at all dat water!"

Actually, with the console versions it might as well have been the water, considering that the scope had been drastically limited by constricted level design. And I seem to remember them making a big deal out of it before the 360 version came out, with comparison videos and such.

Let us not speak of the console versions.

If you haven't played through FarCry with the x64 patch, do it now (if you have xp64 and compliant CPU). Very upgraded.

This on the other hand... ???

Man you guys are quick. :D

Always good to see the dev team members around. :)

While I sort of share the reservations of some of the other posters, I can't help but find the prospect of an more "open environment" game in the kind of setting that was shown in the flash teaser attractive.

a sequel that builds on and expands the 1st 2 hours of the original far cry would be a great game but please no more piss poor aliens.

I am willing to give Ubi one last chance with the FarCry IP, if FC2 is as bad as the console versions (Especially the 360 one, oh, and that travesty that passed for the Wii version, seriously, Ubi lost nearly all of my respect for that POS), then Ubisoft can burn.

Note to Ubi, make FC2 good, or else.

I dunno, I played it on Xbox and loved it (a lot). Evolution was OK but a bit unpolished and I never ended up playing much of it.

I'm looking forward to what they might do.

I thought Far Cry Instincts (on Xbox) was quite a bit bit superior to the PC version. The levels design was far more interesting and fun despite being linear. The story was also a hell of a lot better than the original Far Cry.

I did not realise it didn't translate well to the 360 and Wii? How was the control scheme different?

The controls were the only good thing about the Wii version, which is somewhat strange when you consider the worst thing about Red Steel was its controls and about 20 times as much time and money was put into the latter.
I had to buy Far Cry for the Wii just to find out how bad games can really be.

I've to say I'm pretty surprised this has been only announced for PC, not that it isn't going to get ported or perhaps even being released simultaneously on several platforms.

Yeah, I also dug the game on the Xbox. I picked up the 360 version, and it's pretty bad. The controls (even after the patch) totally suck. There's a wierd stiffness to them that's pretty jolting. Also, the Xbox quality graphics looked great on the Xbox, but they're just sad on the 360 where they really look out of place in 720p.

Thanks M.O.B for the captures, looking good :D

Can't wait to see it in action... or when its in my 360 =o holy cows this is now my most wanted game along with Kane and Lynch! :D
