FAST - An F-Zero clone by Shin'en (WiiWare)

Oooooh. This is definitely one to follow!
It's gonna be tough competing with the greats though.
At least kick ass music shouldn't be a problem for 'em!

I just realized.

To me, generic ship design = Wipeout ship design.

When I first saw it, I thought it was generic, but everyone else here saw it as Wipeout.

I wonder how good the game will be.

Very good news! Shin'en seems to be doing very well with their WiiWare developments.

The ship design instantly reminded me of Wipeout, which as others have said is certainly not a bad thing at all. I love the Wipeout games, so if Shin'en can whip up a solid Wipeout clone for Wii, then I'll be all over it.

My main concern is that they do make enough money, but as long as they're happy and afloat as-is, then I won't worry if they stay downloads only.

However, if they High Voltaged it, then they probably wouldn't have the publisher telling them what to do... At least not so much. Plus, they'd probably get more freedom, with space and all. But that's up to them.
I doubt they even could "High Voltage" their projects. This isn't up to date, but back in 2005, when they released Nanostray, Shin'en consisted of merely four former demoscene guys (Bernhard "Bartman" Wodok, Manfred "Pink" Linzner, Florian "Wintermute" Freisleder and Martin "Fade1" Sauter). Tiny and highly efficient. High Voltage on the other hand is an independent developer roughly the size of Epic Games.

Uhm, no?

It's obvious their referring to both games, given how popular and successful they have been.

But that ship comes straight out of wipeout. Even the livery on it could have been mistaken for a Feisar skin in Wipeout.

Lol, you kids and your Sony...

Unless I'm mistaken, Shin'en currently only has five full-time employees.

I love Jett Rocket for its old-school sensibilities (and impressive software tech). So this will be a Day One for me.

And perhaps it's time Nintendo bought into this company to ensure continued exclusivity.

Would be a smart move.

In Shinen we trust.

I do want to see a retail release from them. They might be geniuses with the 40MB limit (German engineering, baby!) but you can't help but ask yourself what they could do with more. Of course, this isn't possible with their 5-man team now, but you know.

Shinen done something good in the past?
Yes.

The characters and backstory were always such a big part of the F-Zero games. A game with similar-looking ships isn't going to replace F-Zero for me. And if I were going to go that route, there's always Wipeout HD. Not to take anything away from Shin'en -- hell, I still play both Nanostray games on my DS all the time -- but this doesn't excite me, really. I'm still waiting for those guys to take all that amazing technical talent they obviously have and invest it into something original and wholly their own.

More futuristic racers are never a bad thing.

True, although it will take quite a lot to come to par with Wipeout HD's ( and F-Zero GX's ) level of brilliance. Still, I can not wait to hear more about this game.

I can't wait for their shooter on the 3DS.
:) I didn't know they were making a shooter for 3DS. I'm guessing it will be Nanostray 3DS. I'll keep an eye out for this game as well. The Wii is missing quality racers and Shinen's a competent developer.

Wait a minute. Did I miss something here?

You apparently did. Look at the poster, the ship's changing from black to white. The tagline refers to "Shift your phase," so there's probably some Ikaruga-like aspect to shifting your color to get through hazards or attacks, or change your handling or something.

Ooh. I completely missed that. Good job GAF, that was very subtle.

I hope there will soon be a trailer. Sounds awesome, but I'd like it to have no weapons in order to fully please me.

not going to complain about more games in one of my favourite genres, especially as nintendo has been negligent in keeping to its quota of futuristic racers this gen. i hope it's good.

Nice. The Wii's lacking a good futuristic racing game. I believe the only decent one is Speed Racer. Hoping for something more along the lines of WipeOut, which I've always preferred to F-Zero.

I wish Shin'en would/could try their hand at a full retail game.

"FAST" is such a great name for a racing game, I'm surprised it hasn't been done before.

I think someone previously suggested that the CodeMasters should use it for their next series, too late now guys!

They were? personally I would be very happy without them, the F-Zero universe is the one I like the least from all Nintendo games, I find it way too cheesy.
