Hum? I was actually trying to think about what they were doing with it, but since I was actually misreading the headline it didn't make much sense. I had read it as not having private lobbies in general, which sort of made sense in that they'd want to keep the (probably) small-ish population as non-fragmented as possible. Of course, after carefully re-reading the information, I realized that that was likely not that case and deleted my statement.
You should full well know I have no irrational hate for Nintendo, lol.

And you only have the option to use WiiMOTE. Not even GamePad functionality.

Read again the image that doesn't show in your OP. You can have friends only games, you just can't filter out which friends can join you friends only game. Everybody who's friend with you on Miiverse/Wii U will be able to join a friends only game created by you.

All that means is that you can't invite specific friends. Once a room is created anyone on your friend's list can join your game.
Not only that, but he edited the OP with even more wrong info. Or at least with no source for it.

Where are you getting your info. The only thing you can't do is invite specific friends.
You can create a room and anyone on your friend's list can join your room whether you want them or not.

This is a video of random multiplayer, and the comment in your image (made by this Youtube reviewer, as I see now), says nothing about not being able to create friend-only matches.

What am I even looking at? Does something in the video itself confirm that there are no private or friends-list-only lobbies? The only things I can see in the video are track selection screens and actual gameplay. Where's the explicit confirmation that there are no private lobbies in the review build? Why must you make this so confusing!?

Being pedantic, it actually doesn't seem to explicitly confirm friends rooms. It does imply it though.
And as established, it DEFINITELY doesn't rule out friends rooms.

Shadowblade was my fav weapon in Red Dead Redemption. Small world.
