Fatal Frame 1 or 2? (Or both?)

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
I see the price on both Fatal Frame games are really low on the PS3 store...I have no idea what kind of game to expect except that people have talked glowingly about the series. Is 2 the one to get, or is the first one the best? Plus, this thread serves as an ad for the game being so cheap, I guess.

I highly recommend the 2nd one if you are only going to get 1, the story can easily be picked up if you don't play the first. It's hard to imagine that you are going to actually play through both games if you do get them. So unless they are insanely cheap I would just go with crimson butterfly.

I think that the first one is the scariest game ever made, and it's immensely fun. I thought that the second one wasn't scary at all, and plays worse than the first.

They are $3.99 each on amazon for a PSN digital code.

DO IT. I paid 10 for each and I already owned several retail copies.

Most people will probably say 2, but I believe the first episode still posess a considerable amount of that poisonous charm that caracterize asian ghost stories and the dark shoujo manga series which serve as an inspiration for the series. And it would be easier to progress into the rest of the series that way.

The first one is scarier and harder, the 2nd has better combat in my opinion. I haven't beaten it yet but so far I'm liking the 2nd one more than the first. The combat improvements are awesome.

I feel like I should get both, based on all these opinions. Can't believe nobody said just buy both, ha.

FF2 was. Unfortunately it was only released in Europe and Japan. Suuuuuuuucks. I want it so bad.

It's painfully easy to Homebrew your Wii to make it region free. It's a good game too. I think it made Fatal Frame 2 actually scary. There's no mission mode though, which is a shame.

EDIT: You can also play Fatal Frame 4 with the translation patch, which is very, very good.

I've thoroughly enjoyed every game in the series and highly recommend all of them (even Spirit Camera on 3DS had its moments).

For $3.99 a pop on PSN, definitely get both!

I still prefer the mechanics of FF1, and since it was my first it will probably remain my favorite. That said FF2 is incredible and should be in any horror library. 2 is also much scarier IMO.

I'm ashamed to say I still haven't taken the shrink wrap off my copy of FF3. Saving it for a rainy (and dark) night.

The wii remake of ff2 is excellent and the one to play if you can.

I've heard ff4 is good too. Nintendo should port them to wiiu at 1080p/60fps put both on a disc, and sell it for $30.

I bought FF1...hopefully 2 is still four bucks if I'm ready for more. The Wii remake sounds great too.

I think 2 is probably the better game, but the original was such a perfect introduction to the series. It'd be hard not to recommend that you start where it all began.

Recently played FF1 with some friends around Halloween. It definitely still holds up. I had played FF2 back when it came out but hadn't played FF1 and was afraid it wouldn't scare due to it's age but it was a lot of fun.

Part 1 is so janky it almost put me off the series. Part 2 is superb, though, and has some of the best atmosphere you can find in a survival horror.

I imported FF4 and modded my Wii to work with the fan translation. I guess I could do it again for FF2 and it wont require as much work. Probably next year, though.

FF4 was pretty kick ass, I must admit. I never understood the criticisms of the game. I loved it. Beat it 3 times.
