Hey guys,

As of recent, I've begun listening to some game tracks at work and it actually has helped me be a lot more productive. I thought it would be cool if we could all share some recommendations for game soundtracks to work/study to.

Not a requirement, but music I generally find helpful:
-Orchestrated stuff
-Motivational/inspirational
-Little/no lyrics

Some of my personal favorites:

NieR Gestalt & Replicant OST

Shadow of the Colossus OST

Journey OST

Persona 4 Soundtrack

Please share YT links when possible!

NieR is a good choice.

Also recommended:
  • Shin Megami Tensei IV
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Xenoblade Chronicles X (but this probably doesn't meet your wants)
  • Etrian Odyssey IV

I go through them at least once every essay.

Such fine taste.

Kirby's Epic Yarn. I don't even like the game itself that much, but the soundtrack is relaxing, pleasant, and unobtrusive enough to play in the background without damaging your concentration.

999 / VLR - OST The Thread
So good for studying, keeps you awake and focused at teh same time
legit feels like I'm one of those important scientist/researchers in a white lab coat trying solve some complex problem when listening to either OST

some highlights:

I think the trails in the sky, persona 3, Xenoblade and ghost trick soundtracks work pretty well!
Would post examples but in class rn

Donkey Kong Country.
Even better if it involves painting landscapes.

Day first post. First thing that poped in my mind.

With the arguable exception of DKC 3, they are all amazing.

I would think this happens more with music with lyrics.
Also there are some studies (http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0166432813000557) that say music decreases cognitive dissonance, so it helps people studying something boring or unegaging.

I notice that videogame music helps me at first and after I am focused, I stop it.

(Congrats on the promotion to mod btw!! Now watch posters becoming afraid of you)

I've been really enjoying studying to atmospheric mixes of soundtracks. Trying to study in a loud dorm has turned me onto many different ambient mixes.

Skyrim: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JRjzNm4cUc

World of Warcraft Taverns Azeroth: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J7c-2q_GcZk&list=PL457736F5612B6128&index=1

Mass Effect: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b05Gy-9UvJM

Not really gaming related. But I've gotten more work done busting my ass to the beeps and boops of the TNG Bridge than anything else.

I know this doesn't quite answer your question OP, but I have a video games station on Pandora and it's pretty damn awesome. Just in the past half hour at work I've heard some tunes from Castlevania, WoW: Lich King, Ace Combat Zero, and a bunch of other stuff.

As for a single soundtrack, I still really like Xenoblade's.

All the Kingdom Hearts soundtracks
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
Final Fantasy crisis core, 7, XIII trilogy, X
Xenoblade chronicles and Xenoblade X
Assassin's Creed: Revelations (Main theme)
Chrono Trigger
Sonic Generations
Flower
Journey
Flow
Some Smash Bros
and a few more I can't remember at the moment. It depends on the mood I'm in while I'm working/studying. Also I just can't pick one

Rocket League OST has been my go-to for video game study music for the past few months.

I focus best with electronic music that has a repetitive bass beat throughout the track. Stuff like haus.

I get distracted by orchestral music because of all of the little intricacies of the various instruments. Not to mention I get hit with a huge dose of video game nostalgia if I play Zelda, Mario, etc.
