Metroid's been getting a lot of love recently but one thing I feel the series isn't praised enough for is its soundtrack. The vibe of Metroid can be lonely, up beat, action packed or just plain eerie thanks to its mix of solid art direction and outstanding musical score, but which pieces stood out most to you?
My pick goes to the Title Screen of Metroid Zero Mission. Like most of the game, this is a rearrangement of the NES track but I love how they made the more lonely segment the central piece rather than the eerie notes heard in the original and Super Metroid's title screen. It's all still there but they flipped the dominance around.
This track reflects what the Metroid franchise is all about to me. It's lonely yet heroic. More than any other piece in Metroid this track really makes me relate to Samus and I often hang on the Zero Mission title screen just to listen to it.
Interestingly Metroid 2: Return of Samus had a very small OST so in just a few short months we'll have a brand new Metroid soundtrack to gawk over when Samus Returns releases. Until then, what's your favourite track in the Metroid series?
Bonus: This fan made orchestration is also wonderful:
