Favorite use of licensed music in gaming

All the Rob Zombie songs in Twisted metal 3, I'm not a big rob zombie fan but those songs fit perfectly in that game.

All the THPS and THUG games had 4 or 5 tracks I could listen to on repeat

Vice City

Alan Wake, especially "Haunted" by Poe. That song fit the end of the episode so amazingly well

Fight Test by The Flaming Lips in Project Gotham Racing 2.

Played the game a ton, loved the song, bought the album, their music changed/saved my life. Would have heard of them eventually if the song weren't in the game but it would have been well after I needed them. Forever my favorite band and I owe it to PGR2.

Never expected to hear "M4, Pt. II" by Faunts in Mass Effect. So awesome.

Definitely. When I first played ME, I didn't know of the Faunts (don't kill me). But I heard this track and thought it fit the world so well. Since then, a few albums bought, it really was quite a brilliant choice.

I also liked from Gears 3
Gary Jules - Mad World.
Was a fitting homage to the series.

Brutal Legend has one of the best uses of a licensed soundtrack in any game. The sheer volume of music on it is also impressive. You can tell a lot of thought was put into the song selection too. The cut scenes & set pieces are enhanced by song choices that are pretty spot on.

It's been mentioned already, but my points go to Poets of the Fall and their song Late Goodbye. You know, the Max Payne 2 song.

I really think GTA radio stations are unbeatable.

If anything because i dont really like the use of "this part of this game is sad, so here's this sad licensed music to, you know, make you feel sad" in either movies or games. More often than not i find it really cheap. In GTA is completely excusable.
Yeah. Grand Theft Auto seems like the only answer here.

Especially Vice City. When I hopped into my very first car and Billie Jean came on? Hot damn.

Also, the song that plays upon entering Mexico in Red Dead Redemption was pretty memorable.

I've also always been in love with the music from the Fallout games. Like GTA, they do a superb job of adding to the atmosphere of the world.

Gotta be the Tony Hawk 2 and 3 soundtracks for me. Also, this doesn't count because the music is in the public domain, but I loved how Little King's Story used recognizable classical pieces for its music. Very nice arrangements.
