(I really shouldn't like the Yakuza 1 and 2 OSTs as much as I do. A lot of it is badass, and other tracks are cheesy as hell.)

One of my favorite collections:
42w4v.jpg
sBSzC.jpg
c0W1M.jpg

Game - Mass Effect 1, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike: Fight for the Future, Streets of Rage 2
Anime - uh, off the top of my head, Turn A Gundam and Unicorn Gundam

Digimon soundtracks
Final Fantasy VI-IX soundtracks
Chrono Cross
Samurai X
Waku Waku 7
Secret of Mana
Gran Turismo Jap soundtracks
Ridge Racer soundtracks

Game

Metal Black - The First - zuntata goodness
Azel - Panzer Dragoon RPG, or any Panzer OST for that matter
Insector-X - really obscure but interesting Jazz fusion
Chrono Trigger
Chrono Trigger - The Brink of Time
Street Fighter 2nd Impact

Anime
Hokuto no Ken OST's - cheesy 80's BGM lol
Turn A Gundam OST
Akira
Ideon - Be Invoked - Sugiyama goodness

I don't really have a favorite, because my preferences tend to fluctuate with my mood.

I really like the following soundtracks:

Neo Tokyo
Shadow of the Colossus
Dark Void / Dark Void Zero
Metroid
StarCraft
MediEvil: Resurrection

I like parts of the following soundtracks:

Final Fantasy VII
Resident Evil 2
Metal Gear Solid 2
Halo 2
Crystalis
Sonic the Hedgehog

"The music for Black was composed by Chris Tilton, using a theme co-authored with Oscar-winning composer Michael Giacchino. It was recorded at the Newman Scoring Stage.[7] A soundtrack album was released on iTunes by Nettwerk Records." WIKI

I will admit there are more memorable soundtracks that stand better on their own without the game. BUt this games soundtrack worked so well with the gameplay it was absolutely fantastic. Normally to me in a game i tend to completely ignore the music even if its good. Only a few games has had me think during the first play through "wow this music is awesome for this game"... This being one. Metal Gear Solid series is another. Katamari for its quirkiness as well.

The Big O's soundtrack is simply amazing. I can listen to it anytime, anywhere, and no matter what kind of a mood I'm in it always warms my soul.

Personally

FFVIII OST

Jet Set Radio 1
Technopathetic = amazing

METALGEARSOLID3 - snakeeater

there's a thread on here raving about the shatter OST. Its um, very .. unspecial.

Game - Wip3out, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Streets of Rage 2, Rez
Anime - Initial D

Gonna bump this because it's fairly new and I don't think I need to make another thread that's pretty much identical in subject matter. *ahem*

Some soundtracks that I feel kick major ass (some that I feel are quite under appreciated aswell):

. Yes, I think it's better than SM's soundtrack. Get over it : P

. What a fucking soundtrack man, some of the most well written and harmonically rich compositions I've ever heard. Really worth checking out if you haven't already.

. RE-TARDED. Just bizarre and campy but it actually works.....I just can't believe it's for a mech game.
