Favorite video game movie?

I have to say I absolutely loved:

Silent_hill.jpg

Captured a large part of what makes Silent Hill truly great.

More recently I quite enjoyed Heavenly Sword the movie.

Once you got past the initial 20 minutes or so the CG seems to get a lot better (or more palatable), plus Anna Torv and Alfred Molina are very good in it. I know a lot of people hated it but it did genuinely get better as the movie went on.

Special mention to Tron (although technically the movie was released first) and Wing Commander which is still excellent.

I kind of liked Dead or Alive as a cheesecake film. Bad acting and story, but great fights and hot women. There is one scene that I will never forget where one of the characters (I think it's Hayate) is reunited with one of the girls, and they have this really bad kiss, then the girl starts saying her line, but the guy kisses her again while she's talking and I don't think its in the script. I hope I remember that correctly and I didn't imagine it.

Anyway, Scott Pilgrim for sure. I think it was my favorite movie the year it released, and is still one of my all-time favorites.

I must have borrowed the Sonic OVA from the local library about 15 times when I was a kid.

"You might know everything I'm going to do, but that's not going to help you since I know everything YOU'RE going to do! STRANGE, ISN'T IT? GGGRRRRRRRRRRRRRR"

I for one was glad that The Spirits Within wasn't just plain fanboy pandering nonsense fights. I liked it for what it was, and at least it has its own style and ideas. I guess most people didn't like it because it was a little bit abstract, and the storytelling is pretty messy with some very clichéd characters.

For what it's worth, I enjoyed Advent Children too. It just felt like a more insular experience.

Too bad TSW was really boring and dull.

Honestly, it's Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete

The plot is ridiculous and incomprehensible, but it still is a highly enjoyable movie if you're a FF7 fan. Dynamic, cool-looking action sequences, it's an excuse for maximum fan service.
All of the live action movies are on some level of awful. Prince of Persia is the least awful one.

If we're going to count video game-related movies, then it's Wreck-it Ralph. A flat out fantastic movie that pays great homage to video games.

Those two for me too :)

TSW was bad as a movie, but people who say it has nothing to do with Final Fantasy really didn't get the message. TSW is based on and illustrates the exact same philosophy and metaphysical concept that's behind FFVII and FFIX. The Gaia Theory. If you don't understand that, you don't understand FF.

...Well, FF as it was under Sakaguchi anyway. Obviously the series has changed after he left and Dissidia focuses on other, bizarre themes even though it was the perfect opportunity to develop some sort of series-wide Gaia Theory concept.

Silent Hill! So frekin good. Wish I could say the same for the sequel....

Scott Pilgrim was also pretty decent. Made me laugh a few times.

None of them stand out as really good movies (stuff like MK and a Silent Hill are OK), so Street Fighter's so-bad-it's-good factor wins it for me. Real entertainment, legendary quotes.

Oh dear lord, I completely erased this ... thing ... from my memory lol. On the other hand, I actually liked Spirits Within for some reason.

Advent Children is purely fanservice, I openly admit as a movie it's not the greatest thing in the world. The biggest sin Advent Children makes in my opinion is by amplifying the "Cloud is an emo" belief (he's not that bad in the actual game). The Cloud/Sephiroth fight at the end is easily worth it though.

Hey, I'm not the only one who liked Spirits Within!?

Silent Hill, followed by Prince of Persia. I haven't played Silent Hill so maybe that's why I enjoyed it. Silent Hill 2 was just non-stop confusion though because of the insane number of retcons they did.

Resident Evil was decent enough that I didn't regret the cost of a theatre ticket, and I've always have a soft spot for Mortal Kombat (soundtrack was my Quake 1 and 2 OST).

I need to see the Phoenix Wright movie, thanks for reminding me.

My picks are more video-game inspired than they are adapted from video games:

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World

Final Fantasy The Spirits Within

The Animal Crossing movie perfectly capture the feeling of playing the game. For me, it's the perfect videogame movie and I wish there were sequels. (I'd take a Pendleton Ward series as well, though. His Animal Crossing doodles on Twitter were hillarious).

In terms of game adatpations out? The Sonic OVA of course :D.

It does a solid job fitting Sonic CD's basic plot (Sonic vs. Metal Sonic and Robotnick) with some great humor, hilarious voice acting and some great action scenes. Besides, who cannot love this scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3bEuwotzuVs

"You may know what I'm going to do but I know what YOU'RE going to do! STRANGE ISN'T IT!!!!!" ....Just pure gold XD!

Regarding games themed on video games? Has to be a tie between Wreck It Ralph and Scot Pilgrim. The former for it doing such a great job with its story and the latter for its sheer, utter love for the gaming medium (tons of references pulled off beautifully, the structure of the movie mirroring classic arcade brawlers and the characters being really funny).

No joke I actually enjoyed the live mario movie but street fighter animated and the first resident evil movies I enjoyed as well.
