Favourite game you'll never play again

Nier and Journey are in my opinion designed to be played just once. Journey perhaps less explicitly so because of the unlocks you can get on later playthroughs but that just feels like a dumb extra.

Definitely never playing either of them again because it would only cheapen those experiences.

Legend of Dragoon. I loved it, but don't have the motivation to go through it again. I bought it again as a PS1 classic for my PS3, but I've only put a few hours into it.

Also, Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver. Such an amazing game at the time, but the controls are just frustrating now.

Final Fantasy XI. The game has changed a lot and isn't the same experience I had over a decade ago, so I couldn't play that again even if I wanted to.

Persona 4 (Golden), if I can help it.

The experience of starting life in Inaba, slowly settling into a routine; gaining a gradual but certain familiarity for locales like the marketing district, slowly starting to truly enjoy the party's interactions, getting into the groove of Persona fusion, slowly building up stats and social links, getting to know new party members, just stopping for a moment in an ordinary ingame day to ponder that you only have a single year to spend in Inaba and realizing you have forgotten it would end...

Persona 4 is a unique experience. It's not the sort of thing you can replicate, it would be a homecoming in a replay; what is so special about P4 (and P3) is that they create a sense of familiarity that never really quite goes away and remains like the memory of a year you enjoyed every moment of.

I was (quite literally) in the middle of high school when I played Persona 4, and it inspired me to go out and spend my days with others; that living a memorable life was a beautiful goal. I cannot say that I achieved it, but I do not know if I would ever have that goal without playing Persona 4 Golden.

And that is why it is my favorite game of all time.

Nier and Journey are in my opinion designed to be played just once.
How could Nier be designed to be played once when multiple endings were inserted by the development team? In any event, seeing the other endings do not require playing through the game all over again, so if you haven't seen them you've robbed yourself of amazing moments in the game.

Well, I would consider gaining all of the endings to be part of a single "run". After I got Ending D, I didn't see any reason to replay the game.

I don't think I'll play FEZ again. 2 runs where I 100% it (which is like 234% or something in reality). I love it, I get it, I cracked open my brain on it (even with lots of internet help), but I think I'll leave it behind. If only Phil would secretly make the sequel. If only Marcus Beer didn't finally make Fish lose his mind.

EDIT: and generally any RPGs that take over 60 hours to complete the main story. Even if I love them I don't necessarily want to put in the time again from scratch. Unless they are the open world types. The feeling of time played is a little different from more linear experiences.

There was an MMO named KongKong Online that was a fresh, unique take on the kart racing genre. Instead of being in a kart or on foot, you would race around by bouncing! So much fun. Such a simple but ingenious concept, would definitely be a huge hit if they expanded on it without the limitations of a F2P MMO.

Game didnt last long. Shut down after a year or so

Persona 4... 80 hour RPGs are rough to replay haha

You would be surprised how much the Golden version's fast forward feature cuts down the time. It's one of the nicest cutscene skippers I've seen in in a game and I wish more games had it. Being able to toggle it on and off at my leisure is so good.

Even then it's still a pretty long game lol

Persona 3 for me. I'd replay P4G in a heartbeat. And I looooved Persona 3 so much, but it's just a bit too much to go through again.

Loved Resident Evil 4 and The Witcher games, but I don't think I'd have the patience to replay them again.

They're experiences and adventures .. not merely games.

Skyward Sword comes to mind...its far too long for me to replay...plus I feel like I've gotten everything out of it my first time playing

Ico- Debating whenether I should replay or not. Doesn't seem to have replay value...seems like such a one-and-done experience. I do like the game alot though...maybe in a year or two I'll replay

I'm never touching EverQuest (or any other MMO for that matter) ever again. The experiences I had wouldn't be able to be replicated even if I were to give it a shot so I would just end up more depressed that those days are gone.

Forreal. It doesn't make any sense if you have access to the game

This thread is an example of how we humans are very strange creatures. Punishing ourselves for no reason!

It's hard for me to find a game that I end up loving, so when I do it's something I'll happily go through again down the line.

Bioshock.

My first playthrough of that game was an amazing experience but after playing it once, that amazing feeling of mystery and discovery is gone.

I won't be replaying UC4 for a while but it's definitely one of the best games out of that lot. Just still a bit uneven.

In 2008, or was it 2009?

The great level 75 cap was raised and the game ended for me.

I will probably replay The Witness at some point just for the sake of it but there isn't much to be gained from a second playthrough if you've already made all the discoveries and realizations.

Persona 3 and 4.

No way you could get me to go through all the voiced dialogue again and the slow drag of the everyday life system.

They are fun the first time around but they have got to be the least replayable games. It doesn't help that most of the dialogue is character portaits talking and the character models are barely animated during scenes.

Vanilla Team Fortress 2 was flawless. Some of the best gaming memories. Then the weapon updates came, which were cool for the first wave, then hats, then F2P, then crates, trading, etc etc.

Too much of a good thing. It probably was never meant to last. Can't go back, although its good to see it being pretty healthy after all this time.

This. Ending D is an ending that basically tells you to never play again. In the best and most crazy way imaginable. I love the game and yoko taro for this and it will always have a special spot in my heart.

Probably Braid. I tried going back to it a couple of times and I just can't. But I'll always remember it fondly.

And WoW too. The magic is just gone, it's a different game now and not one that I enjoy that much.

Ya'll are crazy. I regularly replay Journey just because it's a very relaxing, beautiful, cathartic game. It's also like 2hrs long at most. As for TLoU, the gameplay and story hold up over several replays. I replay it at least once a year.

I'm a little surprised to see so many The Last of Us mentions as well. I played through it twice on the PS3 and thrice on the PS4.

What are you talking about?

I've played P3 four times: FES twice and Portable twice.
P4 four times as well: original twice and Golden twice.

They are not my favourite RPGs, top 5, but not the ones I like the most and they are the ones I've replayed the most, and going for over 100 hours everytime, a few getting to 200 hours.

The Witcher 1. Gameplay is beyond dated and jank city. Voice acting is pretty terrible. Graphics are crap even for its day. And, it's SUPER long. But, man was it a great thing to play the first time through.

Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
Loved it, but the platforming and block puzzles drove me nuts.

Silent Hill 2
No proper hardware to play it, and I don't think I even want to revisit the memories of the time when I played it.

The Last of Us
Won't be returning there without supersampling restored.
