Favourite rain experiences in games.

The opening for Bioshock Infinite, if only so you don't see Columbia floating directly above you. Plus lighthouses are awesome.

Metal Gear Solid 2 still has one of the most impressive rain effect in gaming even after all these years.

Metroid Prime has one of the best uses, helping to create an incredible moddy atmosphere.

Driveclub just blow me away, it was the first "WOW" next-gen experience.

I can only think of Shenmue. Not for the rain rendering itself, but for the umbrellas popping everywhere when it started. It made it so credible.

Since a lot of my favourite moments have already been posted, I'm going to contribute by adding the bleak future of Soul Reaver 2 to the thread. When you first step out of the time chamber, see the ruined fortress and see the men and demons fighting. A great moment. :P

The city "rain" from Silver:

This entire place was incredibly atmospheric, and really complemented the mood the fantastic story of this game set. Of course I was relatively young when I played this, so my imegination did the rest.

I thought the rain in Alan Wake was pretty impressive. Especially when the storms really picked up and it the wind was blowing the trees all over and it was pouring.

Beautiful artwork. There was a wonderful, wonderful thread loaded with hi-res FFIX images. It was a thing of absolute beauty.

Landing for the first time on Tallon IV, Metroid Prime.

This. Also, Rockin' Relics from Tropical Freeze. Rain pouring at night with Aquatic Ambience x Lockjaw Saga playing, and the music changing depending on whether you are in the water or above ground, and lighting striking the machinery in the background making the platforms in the foreground bounce and move... incredible.

Beginning of Onimusha 2.

Amazing game, shame that it isn't a PS2 classic at PSN. I might rebuy a PS2 for it because I would like to replay it.

Also great pre-rendered water and landscapes.

The original EverQuest. The sounds, the visibility, the atmosphere. It felt like real life and seemed like you needed to shelter until it passed. I'll never forget it.

Honorable mention to Red Dead Redemption.

There are some amazing storm mods for skyrim.

This exactly. Before I broke my Skyrim, I'd have Climates of Tamriel and an ENB(and a shit ton of other mods) installed and everything from a storm to a blizzard would look incredible. I'd always look forward to the rain in-game, night time in-game, lights off and headphones on, with some of the ambient soundtrack.. a very relaxing experience.

Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Lighthouse level.

Snow level in Blacklist is great for a cold snow blizzard.

That Gears of War level outside is like a tech demo, nice special effects but there is absolutely nothing there and just repeats. Lovely looking effects but couldn't help thinking it was bog basic otherwise.

Well, with a LttP, Super Metroid, Blue Shadow and MGS2 already being mentioned, I think I'll settle for F-Zero GX.

Most unrealistic part of GTA 5 is how much it rains. This is California. Shit, even before the drought it didn't rain that much. Now? Forget about it!

The beginning of Metal Gear Solid 2. Visually it was jaw-dropping for a console game doing that in 2001. Also that it contextualized around the game play itself (catching a cold, the tarp obscuring your line of sight while fighting Olga, etc.) is kind of a fantastic marker for the amount of detail that goes into the series and how much of the way it paved for everything afterwards.

Side Note: It rained so much in Wild Hunt I thought the damn game was broken (and to be honest, it probably was).

Glad I don't even need to answer myself.

I loved the rain in Heavy Rain just because a crime mystery set in a rainy environment felt perfectly tailored for me.

The Hard Rain level in Left 4 Dead 2 is easily one of my favorite levels in the series.

GTAV also has great looking rain that sets the mood well.

Another favorite is Wave Race: Blue Storm. You could choose how intense of a storm would be going on during a race, and more intense storms made the water choppier with bigger waves. I always loved racing during thunderstorms in that game.

Not really a rain level but I felt good earing the rain in Persona 4 (when you're at home or even outside), it was relaxing.

Considering what rain meant in the game, it was more ominous than relaxing for me.

The first level from Chasm: The Rift starts you off in a dark, rainy location with giant scorpions. Sorry for the terrible picture quality and I can't actually remember if this game was good or not, but this first level had a weird impact on me when I was younger, it got me invested and into the atmosphere.
