FBI and CIA investigating WikiLeaks

Putin is very happy to hear you think that.

The last time US population decided to not seperate domestic issues with foreign influence the country spiraled into corporatism with very minimal worker rights. That was over 60 years ago and the damage is still not being even reversed but following the same trajectory.

We need wikileaks.

Someone needs to keep the CIA, FBI and whatever other American intelligence places in check.

They're all as crooked as each other, not sure why "Russias agenda" is the big bad here.

I don't know why we need wikileaks specifically. I'd prefer if we cheered for whistleblowers that are less in the tank for Donald Trump and less anti-semitic.

Wikileaks actively helps Donald Trump.. what's your point.

Are you American? How much do you know about your own country, how parking tickets or other small penalties are now destroying the life of minorities. How police forces like in Ferguson are targeting black people way more for minor offenses. How the system with public defenders are making people go to jail for something small, just because they can not afford those tickets or fees. The justice department has made a report about that, it was mind blowing.

Yes, this looks all so nice and clean and there is so much law, but this is hell if you are in this system.
LOL. I live in Brooklyn (yes I'm American). Yes I'm aware people can get put away for ridiculously minor infractions.

There majority of non-violent offenders in jail in the US are for drug related offenses. Parking tickets are not an equal issue. Like at all.

You are way in over your head talking about a country you have fooled yourself into thinking you're an expert on. As opposed to the people who live here and actually have to deal with this fucking bullshit and not just flippantly equate ourselves to Russia.

You have literally no idea what the political field is in the US, don't you?

You consistently display profound ignorance of an impressively broad range of topics. Your blindness regarding qualitative comparisons between the two countries is nothing but privilege. You can afford to be completely wrong.

No, you pretend just because the hell in the US looks so legal and nice is a better hell then in Russia. If you have to tell your kids, look out for the police if you are black or gay does not make a difference. If they destroy your life with a baseball bat a gun or using the law, makes no difference. You are completely ignorant how the system works for the "invisible" minorities. Getting a fine for jaywalking because black and not being able to afford the fine is a maybe a nicer way to torture you, but still is just a devastating.

Confusing domestic issues with foreign influence isn't what's happening here. That's the distorted narrative being pushed by fools on the horse-shoe fringes of both parties.

The NY Times posted an article about how to "twart" the CIA's hacking attempts. It basically boils down to keeping all of your stuff as updated as possible (since the hacks exploited security flaws that were most likely patched):

Specifically, the WikiLeaks documents referred to exploits working on versions of iOS up to 8.2. About 79 percent of Apple users are running iOS 10, the latest version of the system, and only 5 percent are running a version older than iOS 9, according to Apple.

[...]

For those worried about their iPhone security, the advice is generally the same here as for Android owners: iPhone and iPad users should make sure to be running the latest operating system, iOS 10. Apple said on Tuesday that many of the security issues described in the WikiLeaks documents had already been patched in the latest version of its software and that it was working to address remaining vulnerabilities.

For those Samsung TVs, oh boy.....

That advice might not be sufficient for addressing privacy concerns around Samsung's smart TVs, because the Weeping Angel hack continues to control the television even when it appears to be turned off. Until Samsung provides more information on the situation, you might consider disconnecting your Samsung smart TV from the internet just to play it safe.

So you do actually just watch TV and extrapolate specific stories about specific problems into some hellscape narrative.

Your problem is ignorance. You don't know what you're talking about and should either go learn or stop.

I will take the EU any day of the week instead of those 2.

Bwahahahaha this is unfucking real. I was 19 and naive once. I told my history professor that America power protect the world order and preserve stability, he laughed and called me naive. "Every super power in history use their power to further their own control and interest by pretending to be a beacon of good and stability factor, they kill, invade, and take control in the name of spreading their own ideology". He said something similar to this. You are literally and shamelessly parroting American propaganda machine. America was a huge destabilizing factor for many countries, and you should be ashamed of your self with jingoistic garbage by parroting American propaganda.
Also lol about advancing democracy, like installing Pinochet, trying to remove democratically elected Chavez, supporting the brutal and backward countries like the golf states.

Nothing you said counters the claim we have been establishing global order and trying to reduce unnecessary wars.

The only thing laugh worthy (and it's really not) is the idea we do the things we do to advance Democracy.

The reality is we advance Democracy as a means for the other 2 and not as a goal. That's why we are also ok with supporting dictatorships as a means to support those 2 goals.

Uh maybe because our government is under attack by a foreign power?

HOLY SHIT, REALLY? Fuck me, fucking alert everyone right away. We gotta do something about this right no-

Oh wait it's Russia? Listen guys, when you really think about it we're not so innocent. Also is Russia really that corrupt compared to America? I don't know guys, I just don't know. Here let me list all of America's crimes so we can all forget that this thread was originally about Wikileaks and the fact that they keep doing things that help Russia or try really hard not to target them.

The ironic thing is America's free press, freedom of speech and the openness of the society and how it shares information is why people in other places get to see our problems. If you don't know anything and don't care about being right, when you compare us to oppressed, closed societies we look terrible.

Well I mean it did.. because it was so factually wrong...
It's still a disproportionate amount of people in jail, so the point of the United States having a incarceration system that preys on the poor, especially the poor people of color. Which by a vast majority don't even go to trial.
http://www.nybooks.com/articles/2014/11/20/why-innocent-people-plead-guilty/
In 2013, while 8 percent of all federal criminal charges were dismissed (either because of a mistake in fact or law or because the defendant had decided to cooperate), more than 97 percent of the remainder were resolved through plea bargains, and fewer than 3 percent went to trial. The plea bargains largely determined the sentences imposed.

Again we're not talking about Canada, Japan or South Korea.
We're talking about a country that publicly jails the opposition and kills any opponent after having destroyed the press.
The homophobia on blattant display should barely register with the level of shit that keeps pilling on.

I'm not saying your point about the US prison system isn't accurate but when you say there is more people in US prisons than all other countries combined and the truth is it's not even more than 2 other countries combined... it definitely makes you look kinda hyperbolic.

Also wikileaks is an abhorrent and irresponsible group who is accountable to no one. They are a real international security threat and should be treated like one.

you're wrong they're accountable to someone, he just happens to be president for life or something.

The Iraq war was the thing that lead to the Syrian war. ISIS and other factions were created by the US and the invasion. So who is moving goalposts?

To make this clearer: Al-Qaeda and other factions existed before the Iraq invasion. The US did however disrupt them, which lead to them to break into smaller, more extreme groups e.g. modern day ISIS.

Perhaps they're getting confused with the fact that US incarcerates more people per capita than any other country.
probably not though

And who created Al-Qaeda and armed the Taliban in Afghanistan?

And Al-Qaeda was not in Iraq before the invasion.

NeoGaf has gotten weirdly nationalistic ever since Trump won

I can't speak for everyone on GAF, but I'll happily admit I've become increasingly patriotic since Trump won, because I feel my country is under attack by a foreign adversary who has succeeded in instilling a Manchurian candidate as POTUS, and is slowly eroding our democratic and constitutional norms.

Whataboutism is incredibly dangerous. It led to the false equivalency arguments between Trump/Clinton during the campaign, and is what will continue to undermine what this country represents. Despite the abundant flaws in the US, it is still superior to a autocracy. Convincing people otherwise opens up this country to becoming an autocracy itself.

The ironic thing is America's free press, freedom of speech and the openness of the society and how it shares information is why people in other places get to see our problems. If you don't know anything and don't care about being right, when you compare us to oppressed, closed societies we look terrible.

I'm sure things are great in North Korea since we never hear anything bad from their press or citizens!

Trump's president now, so apparently the other 60 percent of us are just garbage and all deserve a loving relationship with Russia. We're all guilty and awful and should just accept our new orange overlord.

Yo listen up here's a story
About a little guy that lives in an orange world
And all day and all night and everything he sees is just orange
Like him inside and outside
Orange his house with an orange little window
And an orange corvette
And everything is orange for him
And himself and everybody around
'Cause he ain't got nobody to listen

I'm orange da ba dee da ba daa
Da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa, da ba dee da ba daa

I don't understand why people hate wikileaks, if what they're releasing is the truth... unless they'd prefer to live in ignorance.

I'd understand it if there was genuine concern that they were releasing false or fabricated information, but people don't ever seem to argue that.

Who invaded Afghanistan which lead to the US intervention?

HEY NO FAIR

They are the gatekeepers of this information and they are using it to craft a narrative. They've editorialized and fabricated context for much of what they've released, therefore intentionally steering the narrative in a direction that furthers the interests of Russia.

That's why people in this thread don't like Wikileaks.

Brain farted bad since I meant to say more than half of the world, which was still a wrong number bro quote. Didn't realize I said more than the rest combined 😅

Because they editorialize the truth and selectively leak only what will help the people they support (Putin and Trump)

Fair just thought it was kinda funny lol

Do you endorse Wikileaks?

Like Wikileaks wants to help make Russia stronger and the US weaker this is factually clear.... So if you endorse this group you actively aren't not choosing a side.

I endorse leaking documents. Strengthening Russia and weakening the US? It´s not actually happening. Wikileaks are not Russian agents. And no i am not choosing Russia or America.
What the hell with this Bush mentality that you are either with us or against us?

Nothing you said counters the claim we have been establishing global order and trying to reduce unnecessary wars.

That is utter false. Establishing world order by dominating others. The US did not reduce unnecessary wars. The US start them like the Vietnam, Iraq war. America has been a destabilizing factor in the ME and Latin America. America has only one goal and that is to further its own interest.
BTW Russia is not better at all, they invade, manipulate and try to remove/kill democratically elected leaders like Montenegro´s PM.

You do realize the Sowjet Union and Russia is not the same thing?

Well how can you blame the current and last US government then?
They didn't have the same administration at all!

Where is that "Malaysian airline plane shot down is because of the US" tweet from WL when you need it...

Lol Bush mentality... Wikileaks engaged in a concerned effort to elect Trump, they clearly work with the interest of Russia in mind...

And the US is definitely weakening on a global scale with the election of Trump (and they'll be much more dangerous if they get the Intelligence community fully under their proper control)

Wikileaks is a selective leaker, I support the Press for example but I don't support Breitbart.
