Feeling down because I don't have any new releases

I'm having this odd issue, I feel like I'm missing out because I'm not playing anything new. I'd love to be playing Doom or Overwatch right now but I just can't afford it, but I have a giant backlog to clear out and plenty of other shooters I can play. I genuinely feel sad that I'm missing out on the fun but I know I can just pick up either later on for cheaper and be fine. I guess I can play Mirror's Edge tomorrow for 6 hours but that might make it more depressing. What can I do GAF?

No, get DOOM instead.

It's the one thing right now holding my fragile psyche by a thread above having a complete mental breakdown.

It worked for me, it can work for you too.

You can always go buy those games later, and for probably cheaper, this is a good time to get through your backlog

Priorities, buddy. Go with single player stuff you have, maybe post a list of your backlog so that we can recommend immersive games that'll make you forget about the contemporary stuff.

Play your fucking games. It's not a hard decision. Either play the games you haven't played yet or play nothing at all until you get the new games you want to buy.

What an awful concept, a day off and being able to play any game you like from your backlog for six hours tomorrow. I feel for you OP.

/parentgaf :D

In all seriousness, why not list some of your backlog here and let people recommend stuff- you've started a thread, might as well do something constructive.

From time to time I worry that I will never participate in the craze of new releases as I only buy stuff when the price goes down. I'd love to play Doom, but like fuck I'm not spending 50-70€ in a 10-15 hours experience I will never replay because of... backlog issues.

I usually have a budget of 30€ (40€ max) per month to spend on games (and only if I have finished the last purchase). It is ok for stuff suchas as indies or 3ds games, but if I want something expensive as heck (Doom or Overwatch), I simply do not buy new games one month and accumulate it for the next one.

Anyways, I can't complain. Whenever I think about buying new games I have to look at this:

xssQlNnl.png

This isn't even my backlog. It's the stuff I have purchased in 2016 and I haven't even remotely beaten (and that if I don't beat in this year, they will become backlog titles) I should have started playing them after buying them, instead of being lazy, playing WoW. Even if I had the money to buy a new release, I would not enjoy it as these ones would be looking at me.

I'm feeling down because I have nothing new to play . It's times like these when I wish I actually has a backlog.

Want the Witcher 3 dlc but I don't know if the version I can buy will work with my version of the core game (hate the region locking of DLC on Ps4) and neither CDPR nor Sony are answering me

Me too. Besides this month since its my Birthday, I can only spare about $40 a month which has made things rough. Here is my current plans:

June 2016: $90 ($48 Tokyo Mirage Sessions) ($32 Zero Escape 3) ($7 Earphones)
July 2016: $40 (Corpse Party)
August 2016: $40 (Persona 5)
September: $40 (Persona 5) (Assuming its $80 as a safety measure due to Atlus tax)
October: $50 (Yomawari)
November: $32 (Pokemon Moon) ($8 Leftover)
December: $48 (???)
*PS: Games are cheaper since I lucked out on a free amazon prime trial.

As you can see, Yomawari is new and not $40 so I'll likely swap TMS this month and go ahead and pay it off with amazon gc. Was looking forward to TMS but my last game I got, the PS4 Neptunia completely put me off because we have to keep the air on 75-76 to save electricity and a system + TV in an enclosed room made it so damn hot. I already got Persona 5, I don't want to experience that madness 3 times times this year, and I want to replay Wii TP too. Under this new plan I may either get TLG, Gravity Rush 2, or Horizon in December instead or just some smaller games.

Combined with this list of previous years game that I still don't have and want:

*Means price at risk.
The Legend of Zelda: Tri Force Heroes (3DS) - Bought.
Super Mario Maker (WiiU)
Neptunia U (PSV) - Actually Got this one.
Neptunia Noire (PSV)
Neptunia: PP (PSV)*
Persona Q (3DS)
Persona Dancing (PSV)
Yoshi's Woolly World (WiiU)
Until Dawn (PS4)
Senran Kagura VS (PSV)* (Price is dead.)
Layton VS Wright (3DS)*
Fantasy Life (3DS)
The Walking Dead: Season Two (PSV) - Got this too.
Wolf Among Us (PSV)
Ultimate NES Remix (3DS)*
Captain Toad (WiiU)*
Kirby (WiiU)
Xenoblade (3DS)*
Xenoblade X (WiiU)
Bravely Default (3DS)*
Rune Factory 4 (3DS)
Project X-Zone (3DS)*
Until Dawn (PS4)
A Souls/Borne game (PS4)
Alien Isolation (PS4)

Not to mention a shitton more digital games I want. (Of course those prices won't go up.)

And it just gets depressing looking at the list, knowing I'll probably never play most of those. Not to mention its an outdated list.

So I most certainly feel your pain. Overwatch is the latest casualty of poorness but I need PS+ on top of that which is $110. Not happening.

Thankfully, when I was better off, I did buy quite a few download only titles for 3DS and Vita, my two main systems. So I do have a bit of a backlog plus online games like Smash 3DS, Monster Hunter 4, Splatoon, and now Pokken I play monthly. I suggest trying to get a online game that you just can't tire of. And a gaffer even gifted me a $20 PSN Card recently which was nice. Was going to save it for Severed once I found the release date was so close, but actually spent it on PS4 sales of Beyond, Transistor, and Grow Home, making the first time ever I have a PS4 backlog! So I do have a bit of luck here and there and I know others can be worse off. It sucks that I'll miss some games, but I just gotta be happy with the games I got and choose the most important ones.

Play your damn backlog, you Steam procrastinator.

Play your fucking games. It's not a hard decision. Either play the games you haven't played yet or play nothing at all until you get the new games you want to buy.

Play your damn video games, OP.

For fuck sake this. Jesus Christ OP.

Current state of consumerism, everyone.

So I have all this wonderful food but I'm kind of bummed that I can't go spend more money on food of most likely equal quality and just let my current perfectly fine food sit and rot; help me decide what to do with myself internet forum.

Despite having a lot of Steam games the two titles in the OP I'll be playing on Xbox One when I get them. My PC could probably handle all of them, a few at low settings, but I do all my gaming on consoles and handhelds except for a few MP games like CSGO and UT/2004 and Garry's Mod
Yeah, you're missing out. Both Doom and Overwatch are great and super fun.
D:

I live in too remote of an area for this to work.

Okay.

First world problem tbh.
But I'd say you could always play popular games like roket league or selltrade your old games?
Maybe, though I'd probably be selling hardware. Most of the games I own physically that I'd want to get rid of aren't worth anything worth selling.

Go through your backlog.

I could quit buying new releases tomorrow and not finish my backlog before 2022.

Or redbox something.

Gamefly. I'm broke as a joke, but I subbed to their special $36 for 3 months certificate. Great deal and I can play all the latest games.

This would be great news for me! I love it when new releases dry up for a bit so I can plough through my backlog - it's what backlogs are made for!

Just enjoy what you have. If you really don't want to play through your backlog, sell it all and use the money to buy some new games (unless you're all digital of course).

I bought Doom for £36 in the uk from Amazon new, finished the sp campaign on ultra violence and then traded it a cex for £32 cash. Broke but not out of the game... I know I'll get it back one day, but for now I got my fill

At least you have a large backlog... up until recently I didn't have any games and would rent everything.

I'd sell any game I did eventually own once done with it to pay help pay for the next. Plenty of more important things to be sad about imho. Apologies if harsh but clear your backlog, sell some shit and get the games you want.

It's release hype getting to you.

Just wait a week or two and the amount of threads/discussion will die down (even more so because E3 will be happening).

If your backlog isn't doing it just do something besides gaming.

Gamefly.

Recently subbed a month and played through Uncharted 4 and Ratchet & Clank for $15.

I'll tell you what you can do OP...you can stop being poor! It's not difficult, damn!

Play your backlog, you'll end up buying the games you're missing out on for cheap and think, damn, why was I ever sad to be missing out on this stuff!

Where I live new game price are close to minimum wage lol. So I wait until it hit second hand games so I can play them. I have no recent games since last summer, simply because the inflation is making second games harder to slow down. Heck I only could afford to buy a PS4 last month :).

Go through your physical library and be ruthless - if you haven't touched a title for months, sell it. Gaming is meant to be fun, not a chore.

One game you really enjoy > a pile of games you're indifferent about but feel obliged to complete.

You can always pick up titles for cheaper again down the line if you miss them anyway...

Please buy me games: the thread.

I'm having a similar issue.

I don't have a problem affording games, but my backlog is so big that I'm never playing a game when its new. Dayum.

Huh wait now we can actually like threads? Never saw that before.

Anyway OP, I used to have a related problem: I couldn't always afford to buy the newest games at the time of their release, so by the time I got to play them all discussion on gaf had withered or stopped altogether. I felt like I was missing out.

But really it doesn't matter. I play games and post in OTs about games released years ago and there's always someone playing along. So I would just say play the stuff you already own and you might get hooked on something.

I get what you mean OP, its easy to feel like you're missing out when discussion is always dominated by the latest new releases. I would say the best thing to do is to try and disconnect from the hype cycles that try to shove the idea that we NEED TO BE PLAYING THIS GAME RIGHT NOW down our throats. Its the best thing I ever did and made me appreciate games a lot more because then you're playing on your own time and your own terms, it also helps you branch out and discover games you probably wouldn't have normally.

If Doom and Overwatch are as amazing as everyone says they are, they'll be just as fun a year or two from now.

What app is this?

My Game Collection (premium). I use it for keeping track of what I own in current consoles and what I haven't beaten yet. I usually have two custom views, one for pending stuff purchased in the current year and another one for the accumulated titles in the backlog. Plus the wishlist, which allows me to plan ahead.

geu8C4el.png

I'm hoping to clean all of the 2016 titles during summer, except for The Witcher. Being open world, it may be a lost cause for me.

If I have a problem with buying new releases, is that my backlog does not allow me to enjoy them. When I bought Final Fantasy X HD Remaster as a impulse purchase in february, I had to leave it on the shelve as I was busy with Trails inthe Sky (2015 Backlog). Whenever I buy something new, I have to either try to finish them fast to move on with the backlog (so paying 60 for 10-15 hours hurts), or add them to the pile. And I am not even talking about backlog. I'm talking about stuff bought during this year that is already piling (Note to self: STOP BUYING RPGS IF YOU DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TIME TO PLAY THEM)

This thread is reminding me that i should start allocating money and time for Final Fantasy XV in October... Or maybe delay it until I can get it for 30€. After XIII I don't trust the franchise anymore and I usually end disappointed whenerver I buy day one stuff, between broken games, or failing to live to expectations, made even worse by having paid the full price. I can tolerate new releases on the 30-40€ range (like Kirby or the next Ace Attorney), but 60€ on a brand new game is rarely worth the money.

If you haven't played it yet, it's new. Screw new releases, just play what you have. Don't feel like you should be part of the masses, just do what you want.
