I took this from the Coachella website. To be honest, it's a bit underwhelming compared to years past. I doubt I'm going to be able to get my rock-loving buddies to go this year, as there really isn't much for rockers, especially if you aren't a Pink Floyd fan. Fans of electronic music should be happy though. Bolding is my own emphasis.

Worst part is that tickets for a 3 day pass are up $30 from last year. $270 for the whole deal. That sucks cock.

Less than stellar. Obviously there are a dozen or so acts I'd like to see, but nothing like the usual.

Also, I kind of frowned when I saw Jack Johnson's name in bold.

This thread made me realize how out of touch I am with modern music.
Even if you were greatly in touch with modern music, I'd be highly surprised if you knew everyone on that list. You'd have to be really into electronic music, underground hip-hop and offshoots of 80's rock bands.

I've been lurking on the Coachella boards for awhile. I still can't put my finger on the general taste in music they have there.

Bands I'd see:

FRIDAY, APRIL 25:
The Breeders
The National,
Animal Collective
Stars
Battles
Aesop Rock
Architecture in Helsinki
Black Lips

SATURDAY, APRIL 26:
Portishead
Kraftwerk
M.I.A.
Hot Chip
Stephen Malkmus & the Jicks
Akron Family
Dredg

SUNDAY, APRIL 27:
Roger Waters (“Dark Side of the Moon”)
My Morning Jacket
Spiritualized
Justice
The Streets
Simian Mobile Disco
The Field
Les Savy Fav
Holy Fuck
Black Kids

Have you heard Annuals? I caught them opening for Art Brut a year ago. They put on a damn good show, one of the best i've seen for an opener.

Their debut album isn't brilliant, but I think they're definitely one to watch.

I'm probably going, but coming off of Rage, RHCP, Bjork, Willie fucking Nelson, Arcade Fire, etc last year and Tool, Depeche Mode, Franz Ferdinand, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Coheed, etc two years ago, this is a decidedly non-rocking show.

Less booze, more E this year, apparently.

The only bands I saw that I really want to see and I haven't seen live is VHS or Beta, and they're Louisville based, so I'll catch them sometime. Flight to California money, saved!

a lot of the non headliners are rock bands. i can't believe love and rockets got back together, also.
Love and Rockets as in the offshoot of Bauhaus, correct?

Also, which non headliners are rock bands? I want to check out a lot of these guys before I go.

Boring lineup.

Yeah, there are a lot of really good acts on there but no YOU'RE FUCKING KIDDING ME COACHELLATONs either.

Aside from Roger Waters, who is a big draw for me as a Pink Floyd fan, there is no one on the level of Rage or Tool from the last few years.

To be fair, though, I don't think anyone short of Neutral Milk Hotel or My Bloody Valentine could get me to go.

Looking at the list again, there is an INSANE amount of great smaller acts.

weren't there rumors that My Bloody Valentine might be there? Its not too late to add acts, right?

Agreed about the smaller acts. Also agreed with the OP that $90 per day is ridiculous. I'd love to go, but I think I'm done with the crazy festival bullshit. I like my bed and comforts. Unless there's something there that's not going to happen again, I'll catch the bands at the clubs when they come through.

That's what makes Coachella so great - there are so many genres represented that the crowd at the festival is soooooooo chilled out because everyone's so different.

I want to see:

Fatboy Slim
Midnight Juggernauts
Does it Offend You, Yeah?
Spank Rock
Diplo
Santo Gold
Busy P
Modeselektor
***
Boys Noize
Erol Alkan
Surkin/Para One/Orgasmic
SebastiAn
Kavinsky
Uffie
***
Justice
Chromeo
SMD
Dimitri from Paris
Kid Sister w/ A-Trak
Deadmau5

Nah, I wouldn't be surprised. After all, Daft Punk was a surprise addition for chrissakes.

Wow, Coachella sucks this year.

Carbon/Silicon and Gogol Bordello interest me somewhat, but they're not worth two days of tickets. I might go just for C/S though. Maaaaaaaaaaaybe.

Indio is so far!

WTF, there's a shitload of great electronic music there!

Justice, Sebastian, Kavinsky, Adam Freeland, Boyz Noise, Reverand And The Makers, New Young Pony Club, Uffie, Simian Mobile Disco, Erol Alkan, Hot Chip ...

That's a RIDICULOUSLY good line-up!

No wonder everyone says America doesn't 'get' electronic music judging by the reaction in this thread :(

Well, it's in the desert in late April. Temperatures will be getting up into the high 90's by then. Trying to watch electronic music in the daytime in the desert isn't always the most fun.

But you're right. Electronic music is much bigger in Europe.

yea, they don't really sound anything like bauhaus though. still awesome!

what i'd recommend though i think outdoor festivals/shows are awful and you'd be better off going to normal smaller shows:

FRIDAY, APRIL 25: Raconteurs, The Breeders, The National,Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Battles, Aesop Rock, Midnight Juggernauts, Spank Rock, Diplo, Jens Lekman, JDan Deacon, Cut Copy, Black Lips, The Bees, Rogue Wave (didn't this guy die?)

SATURDAY, APRIL 26: Portishead, Kraftwerk, Dwight Yoakam, M.I.A., Hot Chip, The Teenagers, VHS or Beta, Little Brother, Bonde Do Role, Akron Family, MGMT, New Young Pony Club, Uffie

SUNDAY, APRIL 27: Love & Rockets, My Morning Jacket, Justice, Chromeo, The Field, , Les Savy Fav, The Cool Kids, Sons & Daughters, Holy Fuck, Black Kids, Black Mountain, Kid Sister w/A-Trak, Man Man,

i got sort of tired of doing this, but here is a rough list of rock bands playing. or non rap/electro/soul bands. though i left like midnight juggernauts and other on because they could rock out live i guess?

rockist!

FRIDAY, APRIL 25: Jack Johnson, The Verve, Raconteurs, The Breeders, , Tegan and Sara, Madness, The Swell Season, The National, Animal Collective,S, Stars, Battles,Midnight Juggernauts, Does it Offend you, Yeah?, Minus the Bear, Jens Lekman, John Butler Trio, Vampire Weekend, Black Lips, Datarock,, Reverend and the Makers, The Bees, Porter, Rogue Wave, Modeselektor, American Bang, Lucky I Am.

SUNDAY, APRIL 27: Roger Waters (“Dark Side of the Moon”), Love & Rockets, My Morning Jacket, Gogol Bordello, , Metric, , Linton Kwesi Johnson, Les Savy Fav, s, Sons & Daughters, Holy Fuck, Black Kids, Black Mountain, The Annuals, k, Man Man, Duffy, I'm from Barcelona, Manchester Orchestra, Deadmau5, The Horrors, Austin TV, Shout Out Louds, Plastiscines, Brett Dennen

i kind of want to go just to see Les Savy Fav again. but that'd be silly. grossly disappointing lineup, i guess this won't be my first Coachella after all.

Dredg! And Scars on Broadway.

For anyone not in the know, Scars on Broadway is Daron Malakian's (System of a Down) side project with the drummer John Dolmayan. This should be great.

No bold on Jens Lekman is epic fail. Good to see that some people will see him! Don't miss Cut Copy, Hot Chip, Jamie T, Sia, I'm from Barcelona, Shout out louds, oh fuck there are too many good bands playing there.

yo this lineup is good and all, but compared to years past this is nothing but disappointment.

incase anyone is wondering why its lackluster, its because they split all the acts between Coachella and the as-of-yet unnamed sister festival in Jersey (headlined by Radiohead - rumor).

dont get me wrong, i want to see Hot Chip, MY MORNING JACKET, Portishead and Kraftwerk, but there needs to be some more real rockers. Jack Johnson, Roger Waters, and Love and Rockets aint cuttin it.

I used to just laugh at New Jersey.

Now I actively hate them. This is a good lineup, but it's not $270 great (plus travel expenses and camping).

The problem I have with coachella is they always have all the good shit going on at the same time so you have to choose one you like the best and miss the rest later in the day while in the early afternoon it's all the shit bands you don't care about. I wish they would pace it out better. What's the point of having a zillion bands if you can't see 3/4's of them anyway?
