WTF, there's a shitload of great electronic music there!

Justice, Sebastian, Kavinsky, Adam Freeland, Boyz Noise, Reverand And The Makers, New Young Pony Club, Uffie, Simian Mobile Disco, Erol Alkan, Hot Chip ...

That's a RIDICULOUSLY good line-up!

No wonder everyone says America doesn't 'get' electronic music judging by the reaction in this thread :(

Problem is that if you live on the East Coast, it's probably cheaper just to wait for those guys to roll through and see them at their own individual shows. I mean, I saw Justice, Midnight Juggernauts, and Erol Akan in one night in Chicago. I don't know why you'd want to see Uffie anyways. :P

It's a good lineup, but the time of year and the location doesn't make sense for everyone.

goldenvoice started to pay less attention to idm/edm and the lesser known and rare indie/noise acts since 2006. such a shame, none of these acts are particularly rare and i guarantee that a majority of the bands will head to a local venue near you soon... unless you live in the middle of nowhere. then again, this is strictly the opinion of a virginian; if i lived close to indio i'd be all over this. coachella 2004-2006 were mighty fine times.

I'm excited to see Portishead, Malmus, Architecture In Helsinki, MIA, Islands and Animal Collective... outside of that, I'm not too excited for anything else on the list. I was sorta hoping to see Grizzly Bear in there somewhere.

Is Coachella the biggest US festival?

not in attendance but many consider it to be the one of the most important festival not just in the united states... but the world.

I'm wondering what's so special about it then. It seems allright, but not really any better then let's say Lowlands (A dutch festival). Let alone something like Sziget, which takes a week and has 60 stages with music playing 24 hours.

Did the Midnight Juggernauts play the East Coast and I missed it?!?! Dammit!! There is some seriously awesome stuff here, though my list is mostly electronic. I doubt I could scramble up the cash for this though :( My list:

The Breeders, Animal Collective, Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings, Battles, Aesop Rock, Midnight Juggernauts, Does it Offend you, Yeah?, Diplo, Adam Freeland, Santo Gold, Jens Lekman, Vampire Weekend, Dan Deacon, Architecture in Helsinki, Cut Copy

SATURDAY, APRIL 26: Portishead, Kraftwerk, M.I.A., Hot Chip, Islands, Boyz Noize, Junkie XL, Bonde Do Role, MGMT, Sebastian, Kavinsky,

SUNDAY, APRIL 27: Justice, The Streets, Simian Mobile Disco, Dmitri from Paris, The Cool Kids, The Annuals, Kid Sister w/A-Trak, Shout Out Louds

That kills me. I honestly can't believe that he is headlining. They couldn't get someone else. oh god
I know.

Last year the headliners were Bjork, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage Against the Machine. The year before that, it was a two day festival, and the headliners were Depeche Mode and Tool.

This year we get Jack Johnson and Portishead as headliners. Roger Waters plays on the third night, but JJ and Portishead are not headline caliber at all.

Electronic music is fun if you have drugs or a good crew of people to go with.

Going and watching electronic music with just a couple of buddies can get frustrating really fast. Too many girls dancing with too little clothing on, but they're usually not down to bump and grind with some random dude.

This is a surprisigly good line up. It could use a touch more decent hip hop, but if Aesop is half as good as he was in Sac a few years back, it will be worth it.

Cool Kids and Black Kids on the same day? I get both of them mixed up enough already.

And just one more "WTF" for the record on Jack Johnson. Ugh.

I just picked up Les Savy Fav's album "Inches" after hearing people on the Coachella board recommend them. Man, this is some good stuff.

check out "Go Forth" next, and then "The Cat and the Cobra" (hint, avatar, hint). their new album is aces too, but listen to it last to chill off.

I'm tempted to go just because Les Savy Fav doesn't seem to get out to the west coast very often these days. The heat seems like it'd kind of dampen my enjoyment, though.

I'd like Coachella better if it were held in March or October.

Kind of surprised to see deadmau5 on the list, even though he was one of the biggest names in electronic music this year (everyone and their mother was playing "Faxing Berlin" at least)... I wonder what his DJing is like. Also surprised to see Tenaglia on the list, what a has-been, not that I ever liked him much to begin with. JXL and Adam Freeland should be good shows too, based on what I've seen of them in the past.

Better than sex if it's half as good as their Bonnaroo set from last year.

Holy shit, Roger Waters is hip now? Too bad he still wants to be Andrew Lloyd Webber, but with amplifiers for his hired musicians.

weren't there rumors that My Bloody Valentine might be there? Its not too late to add acts, right?

There are always rumors that MBV will play Coachella - for as long as I can remember, really. This may be the first year I haven't heard rumors of them reuniting at Coachella, actually.

speaking of mbv, just scored two tickets for the ATP festival they're curating in upstate newyork on sept 19-21.

Video now!

INDIO, Calif. (AP) - "Coachella, I am here."
Prince hit the stage at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival with that announcement, heralding his arrival as the much-anticipated headliner of the summer festival.

Shortly after 11 p.m. Saturday, Prince strutted onto the stage wearing white pants and a white shirt with glittery fringe. His performance, the centerpiece of the three-day festival, was announced only two weeks ago, immediately making an already very hip festival of 125-plus bands significantly more in-demand.

And Prince knew it.

"You are the coolest place on earth right now!" Prince declared to a sea of tens of thousands.

Prince, who had been sought out to perform at Coachella since the festival was founded nine years ago, told the crowd that when he agreed to perform, he informed the organizers that he would not only play, but party too.

True to his word, Prince then launched his band—complete with a horn section and background singers—into "Jungle Love." Morris Day came out to sing his song, while Prince strolled around the stage with his guitar.

For the beginning of the show, Prince preferred to let his guitar do the talking. He also welcomed the singer and drummer Sheila E, who took the lead for a song and then joined Prince in an extended jam.

Finally, Prince satisfied the crowd with a celebratory performance of "1999." His classic "Little Red Corvette" soon followed.

One of the big surprises of Prince's concert was his cover of Radiohead's "Creep," which was sure to be one of Coachella's most talked-about performances. With some lyrics adjusted, a ripping guitar solo and extended falsetto crooning for a finale, Prince's "Creep" had the crowd slack-jawed.

The Purple One was clearly in good spirits and was dancing nimbly around the stage, often imploring the audience to clap along. It was his most high profile gig since playing the Super Bowl last year.

Paul Tollett, the founder of Coachella and head of concert promoter Goldenvoice, declined to say how much Prince's payday for the performance was but said a figure of $4.8 million that had been reported was incorrect.

The last to hit the main stage on Friday at Coachella, Prince followed a memorable performance by the newly reunited Portishead, who mixed old songs with new ones. Portishead was preceded by Kraftwerk and Death Cab for Cutie.

Damn, I definitely want to hear him do Radiohead's "Creep". I'd love to see video of "Jungle Love" too.

AT&T Blue Room had Portishead's set streaming last night, which was awesome. I can't wait to get Third on Tuesday.
