Fez gameplay video of trial mode

Best part was the music this time. Not sure if the rest did it for me. At this point I'm all in on this one but I'm starting to question the game play a little.

And I won't lie, the whole comment about Japan really didn't please me either but that's been discussed in the other thread.

Gameplay looks fun, but GEEZ the writing is obnoxious. Why is it even there? You could easily convey all that information visually.

It's much more difficult to show how much smarter you are than everyone else visually. Hell, the plebian morons who are going to play this brilliant craftemens game probably wouldn't even pick up on the sublime genius if it weren't spelled out.

Don't care about any of his comments, but not sure what you guys see in this, the platforming looks mediocre. Or maybe I'm coming at it from the wrong angle and it's more of a puzzle game.

I guess I get it, but that is really stupid. I'm sure the continuity of that will be broken, or else you can never ever have anything in the background ever, and everything is on one plane.

I'm pretty sure what they are doing here is a 3D skybox for the background with a perspective projection matrix, then switching to an orthographic projection matrix to draw the world, which is why you get that cool "flat" look.

Is it just XBLA or any other platforms?

I think I remember seeing that he was looking into a playstation network release aswell. So might be a timed Xbox exclusive, i'm hoping he will consider the Vita like saw with Retro City Rampage earlier.

Thank you both for answering, that is great news. Because my country for me some reason does not like indies...

Sign up for a North American account and get some North American MS Points. You should then be able to buy them. They aren't IP locked as far as I know, and as far as the XBLIG threads say.

I dunno, second viewing and the art and the dialog from the cube are still really turning me off. I'm a little concerned as well as to why they wanted to release this on what I still feel is a less than ideal platform for indie games.

I'll avoid any developer comments since there's already a garbage thread, but it being on XBL may make any concerns I may personally have about rewarding unprofessionalism moot, as I'm substantially less likely to be buying this anyway if it's not eventually offered on PC or PSN.

It would take this guy five years to argue himself out of this mess in a sensible manner. And even after those five years would have passed, his newly raised points would resemble those put forth at the very beginning peculiarly closely.

Looks boring.

Yeah, charming art style, but the gameplay itself looks incredible boring to me.

If the game is no more than what it showed, then I definitely agree. Other indy games have already explored this concept and other than that, all I see here is nostalgia, the same overused nostaligia a lot of indy games these days can't seem to get out of their systems.

Get it? Systems. Eh?...ah nevermind

Oh, and the over tutorializing of the most trivial of concepts makes me a sad panda.

Obvious game tutorial looks "incredible boring"? NO WAY.

Jesus wept...

In the four+ years that this has been announced they have failed to show anything that really expands on the gameplay we see here though.

That's my main issue with this game. Every year there's a new trailer showing the exact same thing. First time I saw it it seemed pretty need, the mechanic wasn't completely original but different enough. But after four years I just feel fatigued and have no desire at all to play it. It doesn't help that Sky Island proved that that exact mechanic really doesn't make a game fun at all in itself

I don't care what all the haters think, I'm still going to buy this day zero.... when it comes out on Windows or Mac. Because I will not have an Xbox and if I can avoid it, will never have an Xbox again. So I keep my fingers crossed for an eventual Steam release.

FINGERS CROSSED.

Making gameplay trailers out of the tutorial area has never been a particularly wise marketing move. Since this appears to be a puzzle game, why not show off some of the puzzles, and how it takes clever use of rotation to overcome them? It'd be far more compelling than the bit where the helper NPC won't shut up.

Alternatively, don't build really boring tutorials in the first place.

Looks like the framerate takes a pretty substantial hit every time a new area is entered and the camera is flying around. Looks alright during actual gameplay though. I'm not sure how I feel about this game otherwise. It has great aesthetics but from what I've seen so far it doesn't look that challenging and I'm not sure that core mechanic is gonna be enough to keep me interested throughout the game (IIRC they've hinted that it's a pretty long game). Anyway, I won't go in blind but if the reviews are good I might bite.

Are people really complaining about it not being challenging after only seeing the first few levels?
Of course it is going to start off with a gentle learning curve.

Judging by other games of this ilk, such as Crush, I expect it will get very challenging later on.

I was put off by his comments as well but I can't pretend that the game doesn't look extremely promising.

Yeah I could give a shit what a developer or artist says.

I also have no clue what the gameplay mechanics of this thing are, platformer that you can change perspective? I saw no puzzle elements anywhere.

I'm really interesting in seeing more of it, but this has been my impression for the last 5 years or however long it's been shown off. The look is great but hardly any gameplay has been shown. Is it just the same thing for a couple of hours? Is that thing fun for a couple of hours? As interesting as it looks, I need to see more. I can't imagine why people are ready to put down money for this after seeing so little.

Looks really great. Shame about all the controversy that goes along with the egotistical attitude of Mr.Fish.

Despite my grievances with him, I'll still be getting this game. I'm not going to cut off my nose to spite my face.

I just saw The Indie Game:The Movie and it featured FEZ and Phil Fish a lot. And after watching that movie (with a bunch of footage of the game) I can't wait to play it.

I was on the border after he had that outburst at GDC, but after seeing the stress he's been through and just realizing he's an intense guy... I'm not going to let that stop me from buying a great game.

No excuse for what he said, but I'm still buying the game.

Where did you watch the movie?

Don't give a shit about weeaboo rage. Day one for me. Fez has always looked phenomenal.

Christ almighty I wish that term was bannable.

Despite the comments of Phil "Choke on my dick" Fish, the game itself looks pretty solid and the chiptunes are sweet. If only I could personally pay the other staff members on this project that aren't Phil ;)
