Fez (very) unlikely to come to Wii U.

How they treat indies? What?

Treated. They used to require you to have an office to publish a digital game, and you had to sell a certain amount of copies to start making money, i.e. if you are required to sell 5,000 copies and you sell 4,500, you'll never see a cent of it.

Phil Fish doesn't like companies that treat indies in an insulting way so Fez was initially a 360 exclusive. It's not hard to see the irony here.
The irony would work if he had not spent forfuckingever working on the game. Back when Fez was announced, MS was the most progressive console platform holder towards indies.

Yes, I'm well aware. I wasn't asking a question, was a rhetorical question/reaction to his odd statement cause how good Nintendo is with indie lately. :P

OH WOW. It gets even better;

Yes. Yes, you are Phillip. Please someone with eShop experience get in here and call him out on this shit?

After watching Indie Game: The Movie I thought that Fish's erratic behavior was just getting to terms with the development stress but now I'm pretty much asking myself whether or not the entire experience working on the game has permanently cracked him.

But his whole thing was that he's upset because of how terrible they used to be with regards to indies. Yes, it's a grudge, but it still didn't really make sense with your [rhetorical] question.

The irony is this is the game that couldn't get patched on XBLA because of fees.

It's not that it "couldn't", it's that he refused to, despite the fact that he made hunderds of thousands off the people who bought it day one. It's called contempt and he's the king of it.

Weird, all these people in here defending Nintendo. With Luigi hats too!

Anyway, no matter how much they've changed in the past few months, if you got shit on for years and years, wouldn't that change how you feel too?

Either way, going with an established developer on what he says over hypotheses from people with no experience in the arena. Unless someone says otherwise with actual experience.

This guy is way too full of himself for how much he's accomplished. Congratulations, you released one broken albeit well reviewed XBLA game. Good for you.

Devs are supposed to want their game on every platform! Why miss out on potential revenue? Nintendo is good with indies now.

But anyway, he's an asshole. He should keep running his mouth off in public, great idea!

OH WOW. It gets even better

Burn those bridges!

Ya'll seem to forget that Nintendo's limitations for downloadable games on the Wii were even more constricting than Microsoft's. Meat Boy was originally going to be a WiiWare front runner, but due to the insane restrictions Nintendo placed on the service due to their lack of forethought regarding downloads and installs, it was scrapped. Team Meat weren't the only ones who started work on WiiWare titles, but had to jump ship some time into development. The only game I can think of that got a lot of support from Nintendo was CaveStory, which came out when I was in college (nigh on 8 years ago).

Nintendo's downloadable services have only been worth development for about a year now, and even then, it's still fraught with issues. Even with all the steps taken by Nintendo, it seems it still easier to develop for the 360 and PSN. Besides WayForward, who are developing for everything under the sun, I can't think of a single publisher that sees the current state of WiiWare as an actual contender.

Can we please stop acting like this guy matters?

When you make a game that most of the gaming community considers to be one of the best games of the year, you matter. It doesn't matter if you like him or his game or not.

It was announced in July 2007 according to Wikipedia (lol). How were the Steam and PSN then? I can't really remember. Well it doesn't really matter because Mr. Fish doesn't value companies based on their current practices but those that are past.

He never got contacted by Nintendo. Not even once. He has never dealt with them before.

They did that to a developer on wii eShop, since then Nintendo has removed those restrictions but I can understand where Phil is coming from; he just has old information, I haven't heard anything of the sort regard the wii u. Also in a later tweet he stated that he doesn't have the resources to port the game to a Nintendo platform unless they handle it themselves.

Taking Phil Fish as gospel for anything other than what Phil Fish thinks is... Not a wise move.
They're not being good, they're just getting a bit closer to what the norm has been for a long time on other platforms. So considering how terrible they were last gen and before that, they need to be better than this.
If Nintendo's reforms were standard, XBLA Fez wouldn't be broken right now.

You seem very misinformed, especially as you still use the term WiiWare and seem to ignore the 3DS.

Considering indies can self publish and don't require paying for patches, I say they are already in a much better position.

Fact is, other developers have spoken on how the eShop situation has improved. Phil Fish's ignorance is merely amusing and perhaps a smidgen justified given the horrid WiiWare/DSiWare days. He makes himself look the fool for not knowing how things have changed.

He's expressing his fucking opinion. I understand the hatred for him when he was an ass hole to the guy from Japan, but the grudges GAF seems to hold for some people/issues and not for others is unsettling. What exactly are any of you considering ass holish about his statement here? He won't release Fez on a Nintendo platform because they weren't conducive to indies in the past. I don't begrudge someone who holds such a view. Neither do I for someone who decides to give Nintendo a second chance.

He sounds extremely out of the loop when it comes to Nintendo's current policies concerning indies.

Someone please fill him in. It's embarrassing.

It seems like Mr. Fish isn't familiar with the new policy changes Nintendo introduced with new 3DS and Wii U eShops.

Way to keep that douche image alive, Phil..

Their requirements are lighter and patch cert less expensive (free) than on XBLA though.

Sony's been doing that and more for a long time now.

Do developers/publishers still have to pay for bandwith? Genuine question.

But he later admits he's not publishing it because he doesn't have the money to do a port. It's not some sort of statement against Nintendo, he's fucking broke.
