Why does Cloud look like a bunch of cuboids, tripods and oblongs thrown together?

Good god its ugly.

even when I was in 8th grade and this was new and supposed to wow people.. all I could say was "..why do Cloud's hands look like cow hooves?"

I still think FF7's backgrounds look awesome, at least.

Apologies for high jacking the thread, but how come PS1 games played on the PS3 have no analog support? Chrono Cross with the Dpad is torture. :(

Some of them do. It's in the description.

Might you have to enable some controller setting? I remember on the PS2 you had to hit the analog button the right way to get some games working. And FF7 has no analog support, right?

Oh hey this is a nice surprise. If it ever comes to EU/NA PSN, with hopefully some sort of upscaling feature. Otherwise I might just as well play my original discs. :P

Also people complaining about the games graphics and artstyle were clearly not here to play it back in 97/98. Game looked fucking amazing and blew everything away at the time.

Am I the only one who prefer the chibi characters in Final Fantasy over the realistic looking and correctly scaled? I hope that someday we'll see another chibi-style Final Fantasy game in the main series. It adds a certain charm that's never been reproduced in any of the modern FFs, like FFX-XIII. I never did like the stick-men in FFVIII as much as the FFIX characters.

This is why I think Crystal Chronicles on the Gamecube is perhaps the best looking last-gen FF game, character-wise.

While this is good news for people who have never played it, it's bad news for collectors. (The evil, heartless ones that do it to make a profit)
If SCEA were to release this on PSN,the value of mint condition black label FFVII discs would plummet.

Don't do it,SCEA.

If collectors only care about the money aspect of it, they are greedy selfish bastards who deserves to be cut off like this. I couldn't give a rats ass how much my copy of FFVII is worth, and I won't love having my copy in my collection simply because more people have access to it or because it's lost a little of it's market value.

Real collectors do it because they love to collect, not because it's worth a lot of money.

Hmm... I'm not so sure. The basic objectives of collecting games are usually just to collect a lot of great games, but having a great collection also means that you'll have something to show and most collectors love showing off what they have.

Pricy games tend to be the more prone to attract attention and black label games are usually more attractive because they're considered a "limited edition" of sorts.

Ultimately, the price might drop or rise with demand and if said game is released on a download service it might make the "original" less attractive, thus dropping it's price. The effect will be that more collectors will be able to aquire said "limited edition", thus making it less attractive, both as a show case, but also as a collector's item altogether.

Of course, the opposite could also be true, meaning that the "original" might get more attention due to exposure to a larger audience.

Well, unlike physical versions, Direct Download games don't really "count" as games.

I agree, but due to upscaling and whatnot people tend to lean towards them being superior gameplay-wise, meaning they can ditch the physical ones. It's a lot like religious higher enlightment, when you think about it. :P

What? Just to be clear, every single legitimate piece of hardware (the consoles themselves) will eventually stop working, and you're left with downloadables as the only means to experience games.

Sony can make another Playstation that plays the download version of FF7, but at some point there will be none that plays the disc version legitimately.

What are the chances we could be playing the international versions of VII-IX in english someday?

I just sold all my PS1-Final Fantasies :(

There are no "international" versions of FFVIII/IX. Besides, VII Int. is basically the same version as the US/EU ones.

Ah ok, well then what are the chances we'll be seeing the EU-versions of the games in the PSN? And if that would happen please SE fix FFIX thx.

Final Motherfucking Fantasy VII

Lego Final Fantasy.

God, I am getting so sick of this shit.

I've dealt with this crap for 20+ years on Japan getting all the perks and bonuses. I thought we were starting to get past this now. Apparently not. Fuck you SCEA.

I mean really, I guess it doesn't make all that much difference to me as I still have the games of the games they are releasing. Unless they do some kind of clean-up with the digital version. Removing any glitches you would get through BC (Like a Ps1/PS2 game on your PS3) and if they upscaled it. Otherwise, it doesn't make too much difference to me in that aspect.

However, it also pisses me off because I have dealt with this Japan getting games we have never seen, as well as merchandise that we will see. Or coming out with 'special' versions of games that no one else will ever see and I am sick of it.

And this isn't just SCEJ, but NoJ as well. Why can't the NA (and other regions) put more care in releasing games like Japan receives?

late to your answer, but YES. i 100% prefer chibi final fantasy to realistic final fantasy.

Chibi is fine, as long as it's well-shaped and reasonably proportioned chibi.

I don't mind if it's chibi or real life proportioned as long as it's well-rendered.

People may not agree with me but I think FF7's overworld models look like 3d classic FF sprites, then when you go into a battle it's all omg pretty.

Also PS1 power limitations come to mind when I look at the overworld 3D, is it possible that they revamped the fight models later in the development?
