FFX : Dodging 200 lightning bolts using science 'n shit

I've dodged 200 lightning bolts multiple times now.

It's not that hard, just time consuming.

Not even the hardest minigame on that game. Equip "No Encounters", mute the game, put on music, don't lose focus and it's simply tedious. Compared to butterflies, blitzball (if you disliked the game) or CHOCOBO FUCKING RACING, it was easy.

I dodged 217. Once I was past the 200 mark it was just a personal challenge.

Never been the same man since.

Back in my day we dodged lightening bolts the way god intended. Sure we went through a few broken controllers here and there but it was all part of the fun damn it!

Seriously though, this makes me so jealous. Maybe he can figure out a way to get fortune and luck spheres faster too...

I....actually managed to finish this on my second try back in the day. Reading all these comments, was it that hard?

Considering Google brings up more 'no you can't' results than 'yes you can' results, and we now have vanilla, International and HD Remaster FFX, I think if someone's going to claim that "yes, it works, and specifically for the HD Remaster which is the most relevant version today" you'd want to be 100% sure and/or have proof.

I dunno, just saying.

edit: To be slightly more useful, you wouldn't need to test it with 200. Literally load a game where you first get to Thunder Plains, dodge 4, save, get hit, reload, dodge 3 more (JUST TO BE SAFE SO IT'S OVER 5, ETC) and see if you get X-Potions.

Simple, takes 10 minutes tops. And it even prevents people from making assumptions about you! Ever!

My issue isn't whether I'm right or not: I've already stated that I might be misremembering. My issue is people saying that I'm trolling when I fucking ain't. And it's not worth it to me to dig out my PS2 and my copy of FFX to verify, particualrly when it could have easily been A: a glitch in my game due to the aforementioned power fluctuations or B: something that was changed for the remaster. THE POINT IS don't make fucking assumptions about me, particularly when they aren't true and especially when I've clearly made statements that show I'm not doing that which I am being of.

I got to 112 and got tired and missed one timed lightning dodge. I was devastated! That was years ago, when FFX was 1st released. I hadn't attempted it again. I got Tidus Auron, Rikku, and Kamarhi's most powerful weapons, so I was content.

Compared to choxobo this was nothing. Now chocobo. Fucking chocobo...
I straight BEASTED that chocobo race on my 5th try! 0.00 time FTW!

You mean Rikku or Yuna? You need to dodge them to get Lulu's weapon.

dodging the lightning bolts is the trophy

Oh, damn. I forgot the dodging itself was a trophy.

In that case just use the crater or the Water Ball cove tricks. Makes it absolutely effortless.

Blitzball doesn't even belong on the list.

I actually had a blast with Blitzball, playing it, recruiting the right people, winning.

But yes, the butterfly and chocobo mini games can fuck off.

This was one of those challenges you had to be in the gaming zone for, like beating Mike Tyson in Punch-Out. If you actually looked for the lightning, expecting it, you might as well start over.

I did eventually do this, but the chocobo challenge was still harder. Some nights when I'm alone, I still hear that music and have to drink it out of my head.

That's pretty cool.

I kept missing because keeping count was hurting my reflexes so I just decided to not keep count. Ended up going way over 200, lol.

The thing that pisses me off about the Butterfly game is that it has 3 different versions and if you complete the 2 first forms it doesn't count.

Just fuck off, Square.

This kinds of stuff deserves a bump and more attention.

I've done my time in FFX like a lot of hardcore players.

That's some respectful shit right there.

You offered a ray of hope to something that's been plaguing gamers for almost a decade and a half. I think that's why people think you're trolling. Their efforts > "taking you at your word".

Yup. Those damn butterflies...

I keep seeing this everywhere. So many people complain about the butterfly minigame, but I found it remarkably easy. In fact, I had to do it 2 times, because for some reason the devs chose to place the final butterfly so close to the end of the zone; if you don't stop moving almost immediately after getting the final butterfly, you'll end up running into the next zone before ever having a chance to open the treasure chest. I found the lightning minigame far more annoying, though admittedly that was probably my fault, since I was determined to get the venus sigil on my first visit to the Thunder Plains and didn't have any "no encounter" armor. The Chocobo game was by far the hardest minigame I completed, yet some people consider it very easy.

I never thought the lightning dodging was all that difficult. I did it on my first try when I played through the remaster.

That is a pretty damned inventive solution, though.

Yo you can't dodge and save in between the bolts but once you figure out the pattern it doesn't take longer than 15 mins easy peasy my brosephines

The problem with the butterfly quest is that I couldn't see shit, and I couldn't control much either. It just felt like stumbling in the dark.

I got up to 198 one time. That sucked.

Still went back for the 200 and did it, even though damage break meant spells were fucking useless compared to quick attack.

It's honestly not that hard at all. People get caught up in the number and the thought of potentially messing up gives them no focus/concentration which in turn does make them slip up. But if you don't think so hard about it and actually just sit and repeat the same motion 200 times, you finish it easily. I did it in two tries, first try I got to 15 to get the motion down, then second try completed it with no issue. I did go straight to 200 without taking a break as well, idk if some people would find that more helpful.

Well, I find the chocobo race is so much harder since it can be based on luck/has shitty controls.

This is genius. Makes me feel bad that I didn't think of it. But with the crater trick common knowledge since HD it's no sweat to dodge 200 now. Just dig in and mash X and you'll be OK.

yeah but lulu is pretty worthless by the end of the game anyway. especially since Yuna's ultimate weapon is easy to get and it lets her use magic for only 1 mp and breaks her damage limit. so she can use holy and damage shit for like 30,000 right off the bat.

This isn't random. Chocobos are.

Yep, I did this trick on Vita and did the 200+ in one try. I took a few minutes break after a few times(20) dodging tho. Chocobo racing was much harder. Took me like 4 hours+ trying to get that all zero timer.

I can't believe Lightning has been plaguing Square Enix fans for over ten years.

Use the crater trick or skip it. You don't need the Venus Sigil for any trophies and Lulu is useless.

Rikku has been telling us since FFX days: "I hate Lightning"

really? it's not that difficult once you are able to opt out of random encounters. just a bit tedious.

There's way more unreasonable requirements for ultimate weapons in other FF's- IV and IX come immediately to mind.
In 9 you have to speed through the game in a number of hours right?

I remember this thunder thing, it was the bane of trying to 100% the stupid thing. I ended up getting a friend to do it for me :(.

Why even do it? The idea of even taking part in such a repetitive, tedious and irritating mini-"game", even with a machine, the thought that I'm implicitly saying that this is the most entertaining use of my leisure time is faintly disgusting.
