FFX : Dodging 200 lightning bolts using science 'n shit

Why even do it? The idea of even taking part in such a repetitive, tedious and irritating mini-"game", even with a machine, the thought that I'm implicitly saying that this is the most entertaining use of my leisure time is faintly disgusting.

because, completionists.

200 lightning bolts was do-able; the chocobo race for Tidus's weapon was even do-able but the sodding butterflies in 15 seconds or whatever it was whilst *still being interrupted by random battles as you run* was impossible. Never even got close.

Is this a joke?

I'm also confused, is this a joke or has it actually been changed on the remaster?

errrm, no encounters equip and no running into red butterflies = no battles.

I actually did this back in the day. I have no idea how long it took me but I do remember the feeling of frustration and anger when I'd get over 100 and get hit. I don't think it took me that long though as I'm sure I would have given up if I'd have gotten reset too many times.

This is super cool.

I'll never get over dodging all 200 for the first time when the HD remaster came out... and then died in the Omega Ruins without saving. ;____;

Hah, awesome. I never did it back in the day, basically thought "Fuck that shit". Same for a lot of the grinding in it. Though I'm pretty sure I did do the butterfly's which a lot of people seem to think is worse.

I'll probably give the lightning jumping a shot this time round. Need to get No Encounter equip first.

Awesome. I planned to build something like that as well, but I managed to beat it before even ordering the parts.

My current record is 68. I've got enough of this bullshit.

I am seriously considering buying an Arduino and a few components in order to build a small robot that plays this for me.

I'm pretty sure you can't save. I tried it back in the day, and the strategy guide also said this did not work.

I tried in the remaster and it doesn't let you save (resets the counter) also resets if you go in Rin hut to check the book and see how many you're at.

In 9 you have to speed through the game in a number of hours right?

Correct. you have to reach the end of the game in 12 hours. This means skipping EVERYTHING, including the FMVs and most items that aren't absolutely necessary to progress. A common recommendation is to open the lid of the PS1 or PS2 slim to force the scenes to skip (it saves about 40 minutes), but if you're playing the downloadable PSN version, this isn't an option and you're basically out of luck.

It's the most unreasonable qualification for any weapon in the series.

This guy is a goddamn genius. I had to resort to the one spot that would always trigger the lightning in the PS2 version. Anyone with the HD version know if they took that glitch out?

I once did it and had 100% completion but it was a pain. I complete FFX every year since it released but always skip the lightning. Now, with the Hd collection I thought: easiest platinum ever. Already have everything beaten, maxed and found. But those fucking lightning still stand in my way.

I know I might not have the same patience as I had when I was 15, but no one should have to do this challenge,it's beyond retarded. That and the fact that the remaster has a bit of input lag the OG didn't (you can feel it in the menus and slots) can make this a nightmare. Why is it that most things SE does wrong are related to lightning? xD

I didn't even try to dodge those lightning bolts, it just seemed too time consuming. People who've done it for real have some mad patience that I just don't have, haha. That machine is so cool though! Something like that would be the only way I'd ever be able to do it.

I got all the ultimate weapons except Tidus' and Lulu's. So, I built them from the same materials, but they weren't equally powerful, which was an annoying way to force players to do the lightning and Chocobo missions.

Fuck Square and it's obssession with Lightning, i did the chocobo i did the butterflies, this i cant do even at the crater, sometimes X just doesn't work

I can't believe Lightning has been plaguing Square Enix fans for over ten years.

Use the crater trick or skip it. You don't need the Venus Sigil for any trophies and Lulu is useless.
Maybe this minigame was a premonition. We're not rid of Lightning until it has struck 200 times. We're 3 Lightnings in, so we still have 197 Lightnings left.
