120/100 isnt a joke?

i'm so excited! sure took them a while to release incomplete games.

sazh was one of the better things about XIII, so i'm not surprised they took him out.

Hmm. I'm only on Ch. 9 or 10 of XIII and Sazh and Vanille are the only characters I would consider even slightly interesting. Bummer to see him not return.

Meh I'm more interested in hearing about the monster collecting, the time traveling, and the exploration elements. I already know the characters, the plot, and the battle system are going to be crap.

They want you to pay more money for something that should already be included in the game.

I know. They're getting it all WRONG.

This isn't what we wanted when we said FF13 should have had DLC. Include everything you want in the game, then add onto there.

Something like Sazh is NOT something you leave as DLC...ugh. DLC is only good when done right. This isn't the proper application of it.

Ugh, this is what DLC has done to the industry. All you crazies begging for it in the original, congratulations :/

.

On another note, Dengeki mentioned the game has long load times. This is definitely something I experienced when I got to play the first 3 hours of it a couple months ago.

This may be a bit much to ask but a super quick and general answer will do.

How did you feel about XIII and how did the 3 hours of XIII-2 you got to play compare?

What kind of load times? Environment change? Battle transition? Menu navigation? I would be OK with the first one but I can't stand another Lost Odyssey.

As for the load times, when you use the Historia Crux to go to new areas, the loading is really long. When you're in menus switching out stuff, there's sometimes weird load delay that wasn't really present in XIII.

Woah woah, wait. So the 120/100 thing isn't a joke? I can imagine a few games where, if you really loved it (and it were a great game to begin with), someone would jokingly say he would love to give it a 120/100, but an actual magazine giving FFXIII a 120/100 is just.. crazy.

Long loading times... what the fuck :/?

One element of importing a clear save from FFXIII has been revealed: It will increase your winning odds at the Casino in FFXIII-2.

Does the 360 version have the terrible compression on the cutscenes like XIII did?

Considering the compression was only for FMV cutscenes, and the fact this game has very little FMV cutscenes, I would have to say the compression isn't nearly as big of an issue as it was in FF13. Little scenes will be impacted by any compression. But since this game is only shipping on one disc, it might be uncompressed, I honestly don't know.

That being said, the ability for a game to run efficiently beats quality, performance over quality, and thus, if the ps3 version has no optional install, the xbox version it shall be.

The game is optimized properly to the point it doesn't need an install. See: Uncharted.

Also, there's more FMV scenes than you might think. There's no way they're uncompressed on the Xbox lol. Kitase confirmed to us the PS3 version has the same specs as FFXIII did.

... and they figured they wouldn't upset any Japanese fans by leaving him out of the actual game. Imagine the uproar if Serah or some other loli-idol character was made DLC? Pervy businessmen and horny high school students alike would be out in the streets protesting...

Even if it doesn't need an install, it doesn't mean an install won't help. They're optional for a reason, an install will only help this game; i'm not aware of any xbox game that isn't helped by an install. The only games an install won't help are some problem games released before the option to install came out; such as Halo 3, which copied data to the HD anyway.

I'm not saying I don't believe you Kagari, but i'm pretty sure disc-read speed will never match the efficiency of reading from the HD, at least on xbox. This shows on every game released on the platform; it doesn't matter how "efficient" it is. I install every game I play before playing and the option to install is critical to me when deciding a platform on which to buy a game. We'll see when more reviews trickle down, and i'll keep an eye on this topic for updates on this matter in the meantime.

edit: also, considering the fact the ps3 has a worse disc-read speed as it is versus the xbox, the option to install is even more necessary.

It's not just disc read speed either. Installing a game on a 360 once means you use the shitty ass disc drive to read the entire disc ONCE, and then for the rest of the 50 hours or so you spend playing the game, you don't have to worry about causing more potential damage to either your disc drive or your disc ever again. Plus it's quiet. So many benefits!

There are some.
But like I said, I got to see both. The Xbox one was installed as far as I know and load times were just as long. I can double check for you.

Only once at the beginning. XIII-2 does it at the beginning of each area, but in between battles and cutscenes, it's smooth.

To add to this, there was some slow loading times in the party menu in the version we played. When you switch through the monsters crystals you've collected, they load the model and animation which takes quite a while to show up. It doesn't affect performance much, but a bit of cosmetic flaw.

Loading for battles and areas was pretty swift, however I noticed longer load times on enemies like Atlas who are pretty huge in size. Otherwise they're negligible.

Historia Crux seemed to take a bit of loading going from area to area.

I wouldn't say the load times are bad, just noticeable.

First, a review. The magazine gave the game an S rating. This is from the magazine's letter grade scale, where S is the top (followed by A, B, etc.).
Shocking. Curious about the review text, though.

This seems to suggest that Sazh will be added to the game as post release download content, meaning Square Enix is planning more substantial content than the monsters and costumes that have been announced thus far.
What is this nonsense that I am reading? Bad, Square-Enix, bad! This is not how you handle DLC. Finish the game, include all the stuff that should be on it like characters, narrative elements and whatnot, then add to it. DLC should not be an excuse to ship out an incomplete game. Utterly ridiculous.

Additionally, Sazh was my favourite character out of the main cast. Come on... :/

yeah, putting the drive through a game that might last 100 hours isn't very ideal, there were various reports of drive failure from the original, they should have had an optional install, not having any install isn't exactly something good...
