FIFA 14 Demo Up On Origin.

Im not sure the calm down celebration is in the demo, cant do it :(

Yeah, been getting that a lot.

It "feels" different. It may look just like FIFA 13 but you need to test the new passes, dribbling, etc.

Sprinting dribbling is dangerous now. No more crazy runs with the ball because of the new dribbling error system. People have to take it slower pace and do non-sprint dribbles and reserve sprinting for completely open areas.

Wow, feels so much better than 13. Slower, heavier, much more to my liking. And it seems teammate a.i is improved when you call a second player in defense. Pleasantly surprised. Hope the final game is in the same line.

What's RB turning? Any video for the new mechanics and how to do them?

Feels so good on Manual.
However, not looking forward to going back to 360 version after playing with this silky smooth framerate. I know consoles are 60fps, but PC version looks so good in 'cutscenes' and instant replay. Plus 1080p yadda yadda yadda.

So the first time ever they're actually adding some weight? I definitely need to try the demo now

Yeah, but I feel like sometimes it's a bit too much. Makes sense for sprints, but sometimes normal dribbles make players flop around like QWOP like they're always struggling, even with the best dribblers in the world.

I REALLY like that new audio feedback from passing, shooting and even smaller ball contacts. That's very important in a video game, because we are playing it, not just watching like real football. It might be less realistic, but much more enjoyable.

Great decision, ea.

After spending some time with it I can see the improvements they made. If you like FIFA, you'll probably like 14. Not for me though.

Not sure about this yet I like that they have added weight but the passing seems so slow and your players just seem to wait for the ball to be intercepted

I'm not sure if its any fun at the minute

Couple of my favourite goals from the demo

I love beating players 1 on 1 now. In 13 it's always a case of essentially strafing but because of the new weight and inertia that ain't going to happen.

Or slow the defender down, bring him in then knock it away and try to slip past them:

How do you do that?

SHITTY AI SHITTY AI SHITTY AI SHITTY AI

I can't scream this from the mountains loudly enough. Why does EA make FIFA so hard to love?

I know right, the defense should be 100% impenetrable.

It was the last minute of the game and one of the centre halfs had bombed on (you can see him trying to get back). I took one touch and hit it.

That's a proper Yaya goal. ;) That other one with the outside of Messi's boot is a beauty. I'd probably be raging if either of those happened but I don't think they're necessarily fake looking.

My problem is the lane the D gives him, not the shot itself. Just step in front!

Nearly scored my first ever full over the head bicycle kick with Pedro today. Hit the crossbar. Only 4 years waiting to score one now. Plus this attempt was outside the box.

I skipped 12 and 13..

The passing now actually seems to take some kind of skill. Not every pass hits your player so thats good. People should be playing with @ least semi assist controls on as full assist is just silly.

Now its a short demo but for me even on slow the game still feels too quick and midfield still seems to not really be that important.

Got a feeling its gonna have the same problems EA has always had and thats games just end up with you attack/I attack.

Not really feeling any individuality either. Again a problem EA has always had.

BAE pls

Uploaded this one as well its not amazing but was just a bit too easy on pro mode to do

Its weird it seems hard to beat a man but if you get a shot away at full pelt you seem to score too often

To be fair that video is milan vs a 3 star team. I am finding it quite hard to score. Fucking keepers are saving everything. But then some games I thrash the computer. I score 4 times with Ibra once today.

Tackling is straight up sluggish. And as a result of somewhat heavy movement and turning, defending is pretty damn hard.

I can't defend to save my life in this game.

This game feels so sluggish. It's like it has a heavy dose of input lag, yet it's supposedly running at 60 frames. Heh.

Played a couple of games last night. It definitely feels like FIFA 13 slowed down, but that's not such a bad thing.

When I play, I put most of my hours into single player (career manager etc.), but FIFA 13's highest difficulty setting was easily beat after a while (ignoring the rubberband last minute loss bs). I think I played 4 games last night. 2 wins on penalties (for some reason the AI missed all 6 of theirs), a 1-0 win, and a 1-2 loss. The loss was what convinced me of the rubberbanding. I was winning the whole game, only for the AI to score in the 86th and 90th minutes.

Anyway, the things I noticed:
  • changes to acceleration - committing to tackles and missing is much more penalised, because it means you're almost at a standing start. In FIFA 13, even if you missed a standing tackle, you'd still be close enough to the opposing player to not let them get away.
  • ball control - still doesn't feel like it's separate from the player, but movement feels less predictable. Also, one of the better goals I scored was when I passed to Adebayor and his first touch lifted the ball enough to follow through with a volley.
  • player physics - I know PC isn't getting the new engine, but it still felt like some of the collisions were more realistic.
  • AI OP? - this could just be me not yet adapting to the acceleration/defence changes, but it felt a bit like AI players reacted better to my feints than my players were capable of. Direction changes from AI with the ball seemed to have a lag affect on my players where it took time to react, whether I'd attempted a tackle or not.

Anyway, I think those changes were for the better. I'll play a few more games and see how it feels. I was staunchly against the game this year because of the new engine not being in the PC version, but the demo has changed my stance from "skip FIFA, get PES if it looks good" to "maybe FIFA, but hope PES is better".

I tried out the PC version. It feels different to the PS3 demo. The PC version plays more zippy like FIFA 13. Or is this merely placebo? No idea. I found it easier to play anyhow.

The feel of 120fps/hz
Fixed.

FInally played it for two games. Seeing the videos on youtube I really didn't expect changes like that but they are mostly welcome.

We finally have some through balls even if the ball looks to be sliding a bit too much making them very hard to succeed. I think we finally come to the time when you can't play holding the running button all the time, at least for defending. RT defending will be much more useful I guess even if the AI still seems to be dribbling, playing with your defenders a lot too much still.

I was quite taken by surprise by the new physics engine and the "duels". I was whistled for a foul because one of the midfielders put his hand on the opponents shoulder and put his elbow too close to the face. It was frustrating and pleasing at the same time if it isn't too automatic (i was pressing A) and common.
One thing that struck me is the difficulty to make 90 degrees turn or even 45 degree ones without acceleration or at full speed, the defenders always get the upper hand in that case.
The stamina bar looks to be much more realistic too and your players tire a lot, even the better ones forcing you to sub them at crucial time.

Finally, playing with PSG I was quite amazed by the influence of the "attacking" "defending" temper of each player. With Cavani who has a very high defensive temper, you really feel that he's pressing his lungs out. I was seeing him all accross the field, in attack, defense and middle haha.

Overall I think the physical part of the game, the animations when you get close to a player are too exagerated. It looks like there's only physicial struggle (even if it doesn't affect gameplay most of the time). The AI still looks very efficient in goal scoring positions but not as bullshity as before. I was goaled with lobs and finesse shots rather than waiting the last moment before hitting the goal and shooting thought his legs or under him, in an automatic and always successful way.

I'll need to play more but this is slighty encouraging.

Waiting to see the final game, and my hopes crushed. The game still feels like a BPL game (which I hate; where are the defensive midfielders?!) but it seems to be slower and harder to control which is good.

I see this gif and i truly dont know what people are talking about.

And while im not evangelising this as a revolution in sports gaming, but given expectation its actually made me pleasantly surprised about how much effort was clearly put in.

I played the old pro evo code demo, I have seen the videos, it did not play well and doesnt look like its going to be better than this.
There's the problem. Play the proper demo that was released today. It's damn good.

PES could be the greatest football game in the world and I probably wouldn't touch it until it got a similar mode to Clubs. The GAF PC Club is the reason I put 540+ hours into FIFA in the first place.
