FIFA 15 Demo - Did EA Actually Get it Right?

Well, this game is amazing. I think this build is somehow better than the Gamescom one, or I am playing better on my couch rather than in a small room BCD.
graphics are improved, not crazily improved, but it's a noticeable bump. Not like Madden 25 to Madden 15-high though.
Gameplay is stellar, it feels fare more realistic: missed shots and passes, new animations for contrasts, plausible player reactions. It's just that good and I've played a lot FIFA 14 and liked it but this feels so much better, especially the dribbling. It's slower in dribble and faster while running, as it should be. .
Minor grips for now: the improved keepers sometimes make weird mistakes and even the defensive line has some strange behaviors, especially when you break free of one defender and speed towards the goal, the other AI defenders won't oppose you that much.

Played a few games, it's ok I guess. At it's core the gameplay and the look of the player models are as average as before. Some lovely animations though and the stadiums look good.

I'll be checking this out, recently got a PS4 - white.. so it'll be the 1st time I'll be playing the "next gen" of Fifa after years of it on PS3..

but...hes absolutely right. this is coming from a life long pes fan who made the switch to fifa in 09.
No he's not. Coming for a football fan that has played both games every year for my whole life. They're both trash at "simulation" but to say PES is more arcadey? Lunacy.

or you could just play football and not abuse every cheap stuff like spammin l1 like all the kids online
How about they fix the garbage gameplay and ai so that after I put together 30 passes and score a goal, my opponent can't just spam l1. It's the law of averages and they will eventually score from it. They still haven't fixed the useless backline that's spreads in two like the red sea. If you've played any pes game excluding 2014, you'd know that air through balls rarely work. It's called balance and ea need to learn it.

I'd like to chime in as a casual FIFA fan for those curious for that perspective.

The last FIFA I've played extensively is FIFA 13 for reference. AI is noticeably better, crowds seem better but honestly I wasn't looking at them, and the controls are much tighter. Overall the game doesn't look particularly impressive, and at first glance it looks like FIFA.

I think I'm more likely to end up with an EA Access sub that will give me access to FIFA 14 than to grab this.

Disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about when it comes to FIFA and I hope that this post will help others in that vein.

The more important question is, how does it compare to this years PES?

Well there's a demo of that coming too, so shouldn't be too long to compare.

I like that over the top balls have been nerfed, but I did get the hang of defending them. Only really played Ultimate Team and laughed at the guys in division 1 with all TOTW/TOTY players that probably cost them a fortune and that's all they could do. Just play a deep line, turn on manual switching and make sure you're not pushing the stick away from your goal and you should head it out... At least with Pique and Ramps as my centre backs.

From everything I'm reading, it sounds like marked headers are a lot harder to score, but open headers will tend to fly in? If that's the case, I'm happy with that.

Imo, 2015 is far superior and that's why it won best sports game at Gamescom. Fifa hasn't really evolved. The gameplay has really stagnated since Fifa 10. There have been tweaks here and there but the formula hasn't changed. We have seen an increased focus on modes and presentation at the expense of ai and gameplay balance. I'm truly not impressed.

Does anyone know of the graphic advantage of PC version as u didn't even know it was coming out and would be same as next gen. I will be playing 1080 p only. Hopefully the demo will show them later today

just resolution and fps, but pc has ignite too now

So much about the FIFA footage i've just watched is super impressive, the detail in the animations , the physics of the net and ball, the players look like themselves(in the few cases where i recognise players). even the sound in the game is amazing.

How is this years PES looking?

I haven't played any Fifa since 12 since I was abroad for 2 years and didn't have my consoles with me. Looking forward to jumping in again although I will probably get destroyed online because of lack of practice.

PC mods will sort that. PES has always been superior on the PC.

i dont know. can you really mod effects and stuff into the game? i know you can do textures and stuff, but i think this yaer in terms of graphics pes will be superior on ps4. in termes of everything else, then pc ya

It looked great at Gamescom this year winning some praise and awards.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, 2014 killed the console ones. Just depends how they take the hybrid approach. Some things you can't just mod in, unfortunately.

But if that still turns out alright, I'll get FIFA on PS4 and PES on PC. Only reason I'd get FIFA is to play against my brother.

Just feels like the same old fifa to me. 2010 was the last decent one. Skipping again. Still has horrible janky animations. And glitches galore in the demo. Camera drifting off in cutscens to random areas. Players sliding across the pitch like they are on ice etc. Not a fan.

The demo is apparently an old code, and they have now fixed the goalkeepers and shooting mechanics before release.

Hopefully the new Ignite engine supports above 60fps from the start. FIFA 13 (the last one I bought on pc) looked mindblowing at 100 fps, soooooo buttery smooth, almost like as if you were at the stadium. My buddy argued with me because I wanted to play on the 27" 120hz monitor instead of changing the PC input to the much bigger TV in the same room, until he saw it in motion and was like "daaaaaaaaaamn! :O".

How will mods sort out gameplay differences between engines? It might include some higher res textures and better player models, but no way they will even if out to be close to the same as a new engine.

why would they release old code

Because it takes time to actually make a demo, and get it approved by MS, Sony and everyone too. Both PES and Fifa usually have quite a few differences from their demos.

Haha, fifa is hard. I'd like some of what your smoking. My friends who don't even watch football who got into fifa know that all you need to do to score is:
1) L1 + triangle
2) Run down the sideline and cross it in

Fifa is the easiest and most casual game on the planet to play. Let's just put it this way, if you're good at pes, you can beat fifa players easily without playing fifa often. The same is not true in reverse. Fifa is one dimensional and lacking freedom. You are forced to play the way the devs want to consistently win. Joke of a game. Last year I tossed 14 in the dustbin cause it was shit and i have no plans of purchasing 15. It still looks like a ps3 game with ps3 gameplay. This year's new features are improved grass, the introduction of rubbish gk ai, and useless presentation elements that will be skipped. The game is faster than a formula one race and the ai is still bad.

Love how you dismiss all Fifa players in one sentence. I really doubt a good PES player can beat a decent Fifa player in Fifa, the same way a really good Fifa player would not demolish PES players at their own game.

There are of course many nuances to each game, not only in scoring, but also in defending. Let me guess, you still like to hold a button to make a teammate automatically tackle the opposing team, right? Well, that's PES defense.

I love PES and I love Fifa, both games are flawed and both games are really different from each other. There's no way an experienced PES player would dominate a Fifa match against an experienced Fifa player, let's put it this way.

edit: and if you really played Fifa, you would know how to properly defend against high through balls. They were overpowered but not gamebreaking if you know what you're doing. Guess you did not.

It's nice to see FIFA v PES bringing back passionate banter. Haven't been part of that since ps2 days. I will be joining in the hooliganism this time as I play both :).

Overhead through balls are too easy, but that being said, if you use second defender press and follow the runner, then you'll be fine. See a lot of people moaning about this - it needs tweaking but people also need to learn to defend a bit more. The game cannot do everything for you.

Downloading now.

Really hoping things like lobbed through balls, Terrible fullback AI (they literally just give up the wing) accurate crosses, and OP headers are finally addressed.

I'll probably be playing a lot of Pro Clubs regardless though.

Clearly you are the one who doesn't play fifa. I played >500 games of fifa 14 and its a rubbish game. Read my sentence, the law of averages will eventually allow a little lobbed through ball to go through. It doesn't matter how good you are at defending. If your defender takes a poor touch while attempting to defend against it, it's in the net. If your defender is slow, it's in the net. If they attempt a through ball off kick off, it cannot be defended. Go play the game more cause you don't know what you're talking about.

They could release a newer version for the PC demo, though I doubt that they will do that.

It also takes time to actually make the demo's though... It's not just pressing the deselect button for some modes and teams. They could make the PC demo a bit newer I guess, but it's hardly worth the trouble.

ya ya...we heard it all before from pes fanboys. ive played both, played pes only till fifa 09 came out and started innovating football games. pes has been dead ever since, if they finally manage to beat fifa this year, then good for them. but lets be honest here, fifa is the better game overall. pes has some advantages in gameplay, but it has massive flaws as well. same with fifa, but overall, the better package goes to Fifa.

I'm pretty sure I've played more than 2.000 Fifa games last year alone. I manage an online league with 59 other players with custom teams and such.

If you can not stop high through balls, do some practicing - send a teammate to tackle and keep your controlled player on the runner. Don't try to trap the ball, just head it somewhere.

Through ball off kick off used to work in Fifa 12/13, if you know what you're doing there's no way someone can score from there in Fifa 14. Use the right stick to switch to your CB and just head back to the box, I guarantee you can head it out every single time. Just don't use auto or semi switching and you're good to go.

If you need some practice add me to your friends list, and let's try this law of average of yours.

I can probably get high through ball from kick-off working 1/10 times. Depends on the timing and angles of course, but its doable with practice. Only way I can stop that is if I see that my opponent online has done the 1-2 pass button and the guy is running, control one of my strikers and make sure he tracks him back.

Got some awesome goals from behind the halfwayline doing that too, where everyon just misses it and the ball rolls in.

i am amazed that people aren't asking the right questions in here!

if anyone's played the demo - do your team mates make runs? are they useful?

they were fucking shit in 14. i'm surprised no-one is keener to find out this. it really does have a massive impact on the game.

and lol at fifa being the less arcadey. the ironic thing is that i only hear this opinion from casual players who've barely touched pes.

players responding quickly to input =/= arcadey. its almost as if an £80million player can kick a ball accurately on command...... unlike fifa.

The thing that I like about PES 2014 more than FIFA was the off the ball runs. They'd actually curve them.

Hit L1 to start a run in FIFA and they just peg it forward in a straight line.

if you're lucky!

and yeah, you're right, the L1 runs are shit. quite often simpley passing backwards and forwards (w/o L1) eventually inspires the player to run forwards. they eventually get the message.

i suppose EA calls this "build up" play. but its nonsense. they disguise this as build up play, when it's clearly thick AI, and they disguise unresponsive controls with long drawn out animations that mean a world class player can feel like a fucking donkey at times.

well I only plan on playing it at 1080p (tv) and the resolution will need to stick to 60 so I'm assuming it won't make a diff playing it on ps4. I was thinking other settings like AA or lighting, etc.

I wonder if the Ignite Engine will run on my laptop.

CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 or AMD Phenom X4 9750
RAM: 4 GB
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 or AMD Radeon HD 5770
Sound Card: Yes
Free Disk Space: 15 GB

which annoys me because i've got an HD4870 which plays fifa 14 leagues better than it does on the 360 or ps3, but yet it can't support fifa 15, but the ps3 and 360 can.

fuck you EA! :P

I wonder if the Ignite Engine will run on my laptop.

Hopefully it won't ignite it D:
Okay... okay I will see myself out don't worry :P

In all honesty I'm willing to give FIFA a try again this year, hope the PC or PS4 demo drops soon. Did anyone play a full manual match yet?
