FIFA 15 Demo - Did EA Actually Get it Right?

Game runs flawlessly on max settings on my 290x. huge step up in graphics from Fifa 14 PC. I was on a media blackout until now, so was pleasantly surprised with some of the new features- like additional tactics when taking corners (pressure the keeper, move to the far post , etc)

So there is no demo for the PS4? That is a big red flag.
Especially after seeing the NHL15 demo which was not really good. If FIFA15 is even worse, wow.
Well, I thought about buying one of those but it seems I go another year without EA.

It's coming out today. (Tomorrow depending on your time zone.)

Compliance must be laughing so hard right now. Finish the first match, and you get a screen that says "Thank you for buying Fifa 15!" LOL.

Yeah.

Just in case any US PS4 users couldn't wait to try the demo, it's currently available in Japan. So if you create a Japanese account, you can download it now. If there's any interest how to create a Japanese account, let me know and I can post directions.

This is awesome, big leap in immersion from FIFA 14 (I had xbone and PC version). The marks on the ground from running and tackles, handbags when there is a bad tackle, much much more realistic dribbling (look at nasri at full pelt with the ball at his feet, looks dead on) goalies saves are more varied, dirt build up on the kits is a nice touch also.

The pacing is a little strange but no-doubt some slider tweaks will fix that as they always do.

Thank you. I already had a Japanese account and i'm downloading it right now; but i can't understand why the heck the demo ain't in the US Store!

Just tried the ps3 version, I'll try it on ps4 when it comes out.

This is so much better than last year's game. Responsiveness is awesome, you feel much more in control. And passing is snappier too, fucking finally. That was one of the biggest flaws of fifa 14 for me.

I think this will be one of those years when we have a really fun game, like in 2010 for example.

One question about fifa on ds4 for you guys...

Don't you find it hard to use L1 and R1 combined with L2 and R2 on that controller in games like fifa?

Angles are different this time and it forces you to rest your fingers on triggers, so it's not easy to move them up and press L1 or R1 while maintaining stability of the controller. It's not easy to explain.

DS3 still feels much better for games like this for me. I feel that ds4 was made for fps, but it's a step back for fifa.

I might be doing something wrong and I'd like to here your opinions.

Demo was amazing. I can't wait to terrorize everything online.

Glory glory mid table.

Thought the demo was great, but yeah the AI is still limited so there's still an element of equalisation (AI gaining pace in places, magical plays where there's nothing you can do to stop a goal, tackling the AI will either make the ball go out or to another AI player) . Been a major annoyance of mine for years with FIFA. Guess even with next gen power they can't/wont improve the opponent AI.

There were times when the player trapping and movement felt amazing, but other times it felt awkward and jerky. I watched the Wales v Andorra match before and after playing the demo and even the Andorra players trapped and moved the ball a lot better than what the players in FIFA do.

I love that the animation system isn't pre canned and everything is taken into account (flight, spin, bounce etc.), but it seems to swing both ways in terms of the look and feel.

Edit: One thing I forgot, which was awesome, was that I was playing Dortmund v Boca (I think?) and Boca parked the bus for the entire game. On 85 mins, with the game 0-0, their winger sprinted into my half and instantly ran to the corner flag, turned his back and used his body to defend the ball. Even though it was kinda frustrating, it was an awesome touch. Things like this should make management mode more interesting.

You must like the finer things in life....

Anyways, the Demo is always a little off in balance and timing.

I had that same thing happen with my very first goal in my first ever FIFA last year when I rented it on the PS4. I was greatly amused...and also playing on easy.

I tried out the demo on the PC since it isn't up on PS4 yet, and I was pretty impressed. This is going to be the first year that I buy FIFA. I wanted to get FIFA 14, but I just couldn't bring myself to do it when I knew that this years version was going to be a much bigger graphical leap, and wanted to make this year my first year.

finally, a sequel to fifa 2010.

I feel the same. I bought and played FIFA 12.5 on Wii U, but FIFA 2010 was the last one that I played for extensive periods of time. I tried the FIFA 14 demo and didn't click for me, but this one made me come back.

Still a few flaws, biggest gripes still seem to be in but hopefully less obvious like players suddenly super difficult to tackle and then bam score a goal in 90th minute. Defenders falling over trying to do a clearance leaving them free is horrible.

Finishing feels so good this year, keepers feel better but a good finish beats them which is how it should be.

Skill moves feel really powerful in an exciting way, feels good to wriggle a yard of space for yourself or leave someone for dead, although I hope it's doesn't either get too powerful or useless in that it never works on AI. Be good if it's success was contextual vs chance which is how it feels on fifa 14.

Really like how it feels though.

Playing the PC demo. Gameplay camera, the animation, frame rate and general look is great.

Plays very smooth too. Seems to be a decent improvement over what I played of 14 on PS4.

There's still a bit of LOD trickery when you go into the replays but gameplay still looks nice enough.

Just a pity the players still look like dolls, rather than the more lifelike style EA have used in NBA Live.

A couple pics from replays. First one was great, you could see divots in the ground from previous plays, boots making imprints into the grass and even blades of grass being kicked up.

Then you go the complete opposite and see the laughable 'cloth' animations... (not sure if they occur anywhere but replays)

Nice to see the current engine on PC though. Would be nice if they brought NFL and NBA over next year.

Looks very similar to that of the last Fifa game i played on pc (being Fifa 13). I got a bit worried when the menu's loaded as they looked cartoony and a huge step backward imo.

The game looks alright, i guess had i played Fifa 13-14 on console (360 13, XBO 14) i might be able to tell the difference, when i had Fifa 12 on ps3/360/pc there was no doubt that the pc version looked 10x better than what the console versions offered up.

The field of play on the pitch itself in the game looks virtually identical to me when playing as though no improvements had been made, however the crowd atmosphere (both audio and visually) have been taken up a notch. And the cutscene animation (when the ball goes out of play, leading up to taking a penalty, goal celebration) is different.

Fifa 15's presentation reminds me a lot of the change over from early 2000's Fifa to Fifa 2004.

Yep, this is my biggest gripe with the game, if they could sort that out I'd be delighted. I feel sometimes when you pass to a player it takes an eternity for them to get the ball under control and by extension for you to get control of the player and it can really mess up intricate passing movements of counter attacks, in addition to it not being realistic.

I'd love to check it out but I'm stuck with "origin servers are unavailable, please check back later"

I'm thinking that this is a glitch judging by the unearthed raft of forum posts going back a couple of years. Great...

I guess if it's visible from the gameplay cam it's fine but I'm probably just spoiled by NBA 2K14's cloth physics :)

Playing the demo again, it's so damn smooth. Can maintain 60fps at 4K, very impressive, not a jaggy in sight.

Finally gave up and created a jp account to download the demo on PS4.

The pitch still looks like carpet from the normal camera view, it's amazing that they cant get it right even on the new systems, looks so fake.

Many things they can't get right are amazing.

You compare the number of assets built on your average AAA game to these football games and it's amazing how they can't get past these few and average looking stadiums.

How is not every stadium modelled, with their correct and current look inside and outside, different types of grass, as in different cuts, colours and condition, tackles dynamically leaving marks... They do these games every year, they can re-use the assets massively, yet every year they feed us a couple of new animations a new silly marketing term like futbol fusion (tm) and they still sell millions.

We desperately need a new franchise.

Downloaded the JPN demo. Gotta saw jaw dropped when I saw shirts being tugged back when I was through on goal. Gameplay feels really smooth, haven't felt such a drastic gameplay change in quite a few FIFAs, although the shooting feels slightly weird, less powerful.

Had enough of how unresponsive FIFA feels. Players feel like aircraft carriers, and it's exactly the same in 15 as it's always been.
