FIFA 16 Trailer: Women's National Teams are in

So sad to see those bad reactions. I'm afraid they will remove the women in FIFA 17 if this keeps going.

On other hand, I'm just disappointed that we don't have more teams or a league. I'd love to play career mode.

The bad reactions are from an obnoxious subset of the gaming community that tends to shit on everything.

The game will sell well as always and the good PR they get from this will go a long way.

They can add them to expand their audience base for all I care. My problem with EA is their lack of major improvements in the gameplay department.

For reference, the USWNT is considered one of the top teams in the world on the female side, and they got crushed in a scrimmage 8-2 by the USMNT U-17 team (in 2012) who are definitely aren't one of the top teams mens side. The gap between the mens and womens game is that vast.

As for the actual game, it's great for expanding the audience, so you won't hear any complaints about it from me.

A scrimmage? That's no evidence, that's a practice match. To be clear, I'm not saying there are physical and competitive differences between men and women's soccer, but I am saying that citing a scrimmage as evidence is faulty. By the same coin, the MLS All Stars beat Bayern Munich at last years friendly, therefore MLS is clearly as competitive as the Bundesliga. See? That too made no sense.

Can you imagine the reactions if EA revealed the game cover and Alex Morgan was on it?

That would be priceless.

Do it, EA. Show those misogynistic fuckers.

Yep. Fifa is a mediocre game at best. The lack of alternative options is what continues to excuse it.

But to the people citing this as a reason why Fifa gameplay isn't getting improvements, I wonder how long they've been playing Fifa lol. Fifa has been like this since 2002

I see your point but... there is really no point to really argue about men vs. women on the pitch. They don't play the same game. When the womens team is in the gym lifting or on the field sprinting, they are preparing to face other women, not men. Judging them on how they preform against men doesn't really prove anything at all.

Like, no one should be looking for a favorable result in a Men vs. Women game to justify the women's league. That's like saying Allyson Felix isn't fast because Usain Bolt is much much faster.

Thanks for that clarification. My point this stands since the 2nd most viewed was 300,000 less and it was USA vs China Women's World Cup. So yes, people do care about Women's Soccer

In America they probably do. But in Europe not so much. Watching a WC Final doesn't tell you much about interest. It's the league play that is important in football and makes up 90% of the revenue. And so far, women's football isn't even in the same ballpark as the 3rd tier men's league (here in Germany) in terms of attendance and revenue.
It will get better of course, but so far the womens game is not big enough to function as a big reveal goodie. EA sent the message "this year we added women. Full stop." with the reveal, so of course some gamers will get mad.

Most fans were hoping to see gameplay and graphic updates. This trailer - the first for FIFA 16 - isn't meant for them, unfortunately.

This is a good thing, I never understood why there's such as massive gap in popularity between mens and womens football.

Even though I don't play FIFA, or any football game for that matter, I do applaud EA for taking this step.

Because men have been playing professional football for over 90 years (and in some countries for much more than that) and in amateur form from over 120 years or more, there has been World cups since 1930. And the biggest clubs in the world are over 100 years old. On the other side Women's WC has been a thing since 1991 and the nations that are good at them (outside of Germany) are nations that don't have a competitive male NT. Also there is no professional women league in most countries and if they are (like in the biggest football nations) they are eclipsed in its entirely by the male professional league.

I think the only market where the female WC and or professional league gets any coverage in news and media in regular form is the US. Under those conditions is no wonder that the interest for women's football is almost no existent outside of the US.

Unlike you, I don't profess to know the sales numbers of nonexistent products. You say that the absence of a standalone women's game proves that there is no market for it but turn around and say that if EA published 2 Fifa games a year they would sell. I can use your same logic and say that the fact that EA doesn't release 2 standalone Fifa games a year proves that no one wants it.

I have no idea how well it would sell if it was a standalone game. But I also do not think that they wanted to make it a standalone game to begin with. The premise here is flawed. If you believe that there is no market for a woman's game because of how you feel, then say that instead. But saying that EA adding women to this game somehow bolsters your point is a leap of logic.

This is how you sound to me...

"Nintendo added Pokemon to Smash Bros instead of making a Pokemon standalone Smash Bros game. This proves no one wants a standalone pokemon fighting game. There just isn't a market for it."

One fact doesn't not prove the other.

i think we can agree that having a hypothetical discussion has indeed no sense.

About the caring point, i don't think anyone says nobody cares. Yet the number means absolutely nothing in relation to Fifa the game. Next to that womens football in Europe and the US are to completely different things. Therefore the comments about Ea introducing this after the recent up stets Fifa went trough i can actually understands the comment. And i am myself having big doubts if i will buy or support this version of the game.

I agree, and I was actually responding to someone that said "nobody cares about womens football" Lol :

i cant wait for the next homoerotic fifa thread

will it match salsa's thread, i wonder?

This was a long time coming. They finally did it.

Incorrect. As a self-proclaimed football gaming connoisseur, 02 was a brand new engine then that failed horribly. FIFA 15 is a refined version of 09.

I don't think that explains the gap in popularity though. The gap/difference in the game? yes, but the women's team is more popular than the men's team in the US so....

I'm just saying, there is alot that goes into why some sports are popular and why some aren't. Superstars, dominance, etc etc. Is there any American male tennis player as popular as Serena Williams? No. Can Serena Williams beat the top male Tennis players? Not a chance (by her own admission even). Its has very little to do with men vs women on the pitch.

It explains the gap in popularity in Europe/South America.

Now for the USWMNT and your Serena Williams example, I'd say if Federer (during his dominant run), or one of the Klitschko brothers (using another dying sport in America) and the German Mens National team were American, it would be a completely different story in America.

Man this thread,.. Better grab the popcorn.

Well, threads like this are good to expose what people consider rational thought for what it really is...

You can be misogynistic or insecure or w/e but just don't try to disguise as objective reason.
Just say something like,

"Well, as a I man, I feel uncomfortable with women being in Fifa. Why? I dunno, I just do"

I respect that a lot more than,

"This is factual evidence that no one likes women! (not my opinion)!

Lemme make sure I follow your reaction/logic. You're saying that by adding women's teams to a Fifa game they are proving that no one cares about women's football (or at least playing it)? Because if they did care, they would make the game standalone?

I think you are severely oversimplifying the game development industry.

No, just that the market isn't big enough, otherwise they would make it a quick cash grab tie in with the wc, be it a standalone game or in more recent years as DLC.
I'm not too mad as the game isn't worse because of this I doubt they put serious development time into this.

But still, it's like NFL releasing with European national teams, it creates discussion

You know that EA includes the national teams, at least a big bunch of them, regardless if there is a WC edition the same year or not ?

No way.

The keepers are now going to be even worse than they used to be.

Amazing.

This isn't even possible, unless we are talking about PES quality like keepers.

Will we be able to play women's teams againt the men teams? Will we be able to make trades so you could have a mixed custom team? I wants.

Sony is a FIFA sponsor.

Oh my god EA, don't put new stuff into your game! All we ever wanted was the same game but with slightly better graphics, updated rosters and bug fixes! Nobody ever wanted new stuff in their FIFA game!
Just fix the bugs, update the rosters and release a new game every year for 60€, that's all everybody wants!

Yes, this is sarcasm in case you were wondering.

But that's not my point lol. We wouldn't be cheering an American Federer because he's "not a woman", we would be cheering him because he dominates. We aren't cheering Serena because she's not a man, we are cheering her because she wins. If the USWMNT was a crappy team, they would have far less support, period.

The main deciding factor is performance, everything else is secondary and tertiary

I guess I shouldn't be surprised. These are the same athletes who cry on twitter if someone says a bad word about them in the papers...

There absolutely should be a female on the cover along with Messi and whoever the regional player is

Yeah, some of the response to this thread are wack as fuck. I'm just going to post a couple ideas I think should be included in the game since Women's National Teams are getting added.

Female refs would be really welcome for both men and women's matches. Include female coaches and scouts in career mode. I think female scouts is more than reasonable, since scouts just appear as names with star ratings attached to them. For career mode, since we can already receive offers to manage Men's National Teams, I think it would be really cool to also get offers from Women's Teams as well.

For future iterations, I think it'd be dope to eventually get women's clubs and ultimate team.

I bet Europe will have Messi only but I think NA will get a female player in there as well.

Does FIFA have female refs for games with men?

Hopefully the women covered in motion-capture balls are not just for the celebration but for new gameplay animations.

I'm surprised Japan didn't make it.

Wonder if we'll see Alex Morgan with Messi for the U.S. boxart.

Morgan or Wambach will probably be the highest rated U.S. player, but I think Press should be up there with them.

What actually offends me is that EA & FIFA are the twin children of the Devil but now I have to grudgingly acknowledge that they did something nice for a change!

Bring on the women, flood gaming with estrogen and when we find the naysayers, we can deport them to create a better world

Have Alex and Messi high five each other on the box art or something, the misogynists will melt...

They are being funny, but if you read football releated news and interviews and what not. You will know that the majority of players since the 90's play at some way or another FIFA since the megadrive only days or PES since the PS2 era (which PES was THE football game). Players always talk how they like to distend and play videogames (mostly FIFA/PES) and that they discuss about the rating on the game and how accurate or inaccurate they are. Again it is nothing new for anyone that follows football, after all FIFA/PES have transcendent the niche of videogames a long time ago and even people that never owned a console are most likely to have played this games with friends at one point or another.

Seeing the reaction on social media is disgusting, women being included in Fifa is long overdue, pathetic "Men" saying they won't buy the game because of it just shows how idiotic they really are.

Do they not realise that they CAME from a woman? The entire reason they breathe air is partly because of a woman (mainly actually might I add considering they have to carry the child for 9 months and nuture it)

Yet women are not good enough to play the sport or be included in a game about it?

Wait what? It is people like you who make this kind of behavior possible. It sickens me.

The implantation of women football in Fifa is totally wrong. They should not be equal to men, not in rating, movement, any form of the game. Is it therefore strange that people are complaining they won't buy it? No it isn't.

Not to mention the popularity question over here in Europe. Hence people will have other priorities and expectations from it.

Why?

Not saying it's a bad thing. But what's the logic behind it? In terms of appeal to the fanbase?

It's a pretty huge addition to the series and they should promote it as best they can. What better way than to put a female player on the box along with Messi

Wonder if Japan's omission is licensing based? It's a pity, and yeah, Alex Morgan and Christine Sinclair on the NA FIFA 16 cover? Why not? :-)

Morgan or Wambach will probably be the highest rated U.S. player, but I think Press should be up there with them.

Press needs to earn her stripes. She's goes from brilliant to awkward way too often on the pitch. However, as a pure striker she has more selfishness than morgan or leroux combined, and that is a good thing.

Press is extremely good but needs to start scoring a lot to be in the conversation. That's just how it goes.

That too
