Not sure how far apart the games are gonna be in Russia.

Not that far. What's the mountain range? The Urals? I think only 1 is east of it. Wikiedia and Russia's bid website explain, if I recall.

You're forgetting the whole reason why a lot of these places get selected. Prestige, driving football in new areas, and statistical reasons. As I stated previously, Qatar is in prime position to gain a ton of viewers based upon timezone differences from Europe & Africa, to Asia.
And then it'll go back to a tiny oil producing country with a population who don't give a shit about football, only spending money

I'm honestly fine with the middle east getting the WC, but this just reeks of moneyhats because of all the things going against Qatar.

Watch, Qatar is gonna become the Dubai of soccer. Huge infrastructure and development with reckless abandon for human rights (you think those workers are gonna be Qatari? :lol), followed by immediate decay and collapse as soon as the WC is over.

Why not Dubahi then? Did the UAE even bid? Seems like a much more logic place.
The only nations who lodged for 2022 are the 5 who were in the running.

Ah yes. But the prospective populations that could feasibly be watching the 2022 World Cup live without timezones screwing them over is 5.6billion. And that doesn't even include the Middle East population. How much do you think sponsors will pay to be a part of that much possible viewership?

I'm surprised the African nations voted for Russia, despite their racism towards black people and players.

Will they guarantee the safety of african fans in russia at the world cup?

I'm looking at Qatar's bid on Wikipedia and see that the municipalities that will host the stadiums have minuscule populations. What will fans do outside of games?

They are tearing down the stadiums and moving them to third world countries, that won them a lot of support apparently.

England came fourth out four :|

WOW!!! just wow!!
no fun Qatar, that is gonna be such suckage

I was hoping at attending either Spain-Portugal and or USA for easy access and funness

Temps in Qatar can reach as high as 50c/122f during June and July. 2022 is going to be a fuck-awful WC. It will have us romanticizing the days of South Africa and vuvuzelas.

:lol
Hilarious, but potentially true.

Probably not drink beer......if alcohol allowed in Qatar?
If not i hope England, Germany, France and Australia don't get through!!!

Too many morons commentate on this sport who also wear their heart upon their sleeve. They need to remind themselves that the World Cup is a world event - if it doesn't happen in your backyard then so be it. Be happy that you are able to view it in the first place.

Again: WHO THE FUCK IN QATAR CARES ABOUT SOCCER?

Russians do. Russia has a respectable national team. Russia has stadiums. Russia has the infrastructure. What do you think how much Qatar will care about the environment to build and aircondition those stadiums and training places?

I'm pretty sure plenty of people in Qatar care now, also I assume they ran as a candidate for the whole Middle East.

I can't believe people are moaning so much, the only decent thing Blatter's ever done is to spread the WC's around the world instead of it mainly being in Europe.

It's about time - Panorama did it and people are now blaming the BBC for "losing" us the bid. All this is is Fifa wanting to leave a "legacy" for themselves.

England also came fourth out of all four bids. What a disgrace.

I'm more interested to see the amount of hotels / restaraunts / cafes / bars / etc... get built for this one month, and then sit vacant because no one wants to freaking move to Qatar. Are they going to send all those buildings to 3rd world countries too?

I will say this though, Qatar makes a CRAPTON of money (their GDP is insane for the population), so whatever facilities they build should be pretty awesome. They've got 11 years to impress the world a la China's Olympics. Let's hope they can pull it off.

Unlike most people here I have to congratulate FIFA for bOth decisions. Sure, they were driven by money, but they are gonna help the internal development of two countries that do need it.

2002 - Japan/South Korea
2006 - Germany
2010 - South Africa
2014 - Brazil
2018 - Russia
2022 - Qatar

If Brazil isn't an awesome World Cup then we have do endure another few South Africa WC's

Why do I get the sudden urge to watch Rocky IV?

I know its technically USA v Russia, but still... My picks would have been 2018: England, and 2022: Australia

And after Qatar, WC will probably go to China.

It will be a long fucking day until the US holds another sporting event.

Those wouldn't have been my first picks, but I'd have been a lot happier with that than with what we got.

I love how a choice doesn't go to a certain countries way and so its citizens say nothing more than "FIFA ARE CORRUPT!"

Of course they are corrupt, it's been that way for a long time. Still it went to Brazil for the next one.

so other than corruption, what's so bad about Qatar hosting the games?

Seems like a place I'd want to travel to to watch the WC.

Qatar us easy to understand. Alot of money flowing around and those sheiks know how to treat VIP people.

Just look at that outrageous list of requirements that FIFA sent to South Africa. http://www.africafiles.org/article.asp?ID=23812. Fifa is not about football or the supporters, it's about filling the organizations bank accounts.

Alots made of money? That seems dangerous, thus making Qatar unfit for hosting a World Cup.

Fifa is corrupt, there is not even a question about it and people have been saying it for yeaars. The sad thing is that every time they choose countries, everyone momentarily "forgets it" and sucks up to those greedy bastards.

Being british, I'd have loved the WC to come back here, but I picked Australia over the US or Spain because the WC had France and Germany (Europe) against Spain, and USA had one recently (1994), so Australia seemed the right choice.

This. If the FA cared that much about the bid they could have worked things out with the developing nations( & kept the dullest man in the world, Shearer well away from the bid)
