As a German I'm not even mad or disappointed about the result. I'm just glad that it's finally over. Can't say that this match was a good promotion for women's football. Sometimes it even looked like a parody.

Congratulations England. You had won the moment the German commentator started going on and on about how England had never won about Germany.
Really bad performance by Germany.

germany didn't really have many good performances this cup, except against mob-tier teams

Happy about this result. The English girls are stoked. They clearly wanted this win the most. On paper the German team is better and in the 1st half they obviously were the better team on the field, but England came back and had 100% opportunities. In the end a just result and a great move forward for the team (although we should've beaten them a few matches ago).

I wonder why commentators and pundits were saying that the teams didn't care about the third place game.

Both teams obviously care...a lot.

It's not like all of them are going back to their domestic leagues with a prestige of La Liga.

Only 18 months as the manager, Mark Sampson got his team to 3rd place. Good job.

England can't play in Rio 2016, right?

Why not?

Watch as the final gets decided by a pen too. :lol

Maybe not. Japan actually seems competent with the ball.

Japan is by far the best at passing and controlling the ball in this WC. Hell they are way better than their own men's side in that regard.

Amusing that a tournament that started with a couple of 10-goal wins and complaints that the women's game was too easy seems to be dominated by penalties at the moment.

Delighted for England. It's been excellent to watch how they've come along since the beginning of the tournament, especially bouncing back from that semi-final. Speaking of which, that own goal aside, couldn't really have asked for a better advert for the women's game in our country, could we?

Looking forward to the final now.

If not for the dry plastic christmas tree turf there would def have been about 20 more goals this tournament.

Anyway, love to see a team really taking in the moment.

Best result for England at a World Cup since 1966, so bloody proud of this team.

Because we enter the Olympics as the Great Britain and Northern Ireland Olympic team, which from a football perspective means getting the English, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish FAs to agree to send a joint team.

The Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish FAs couldn't even agree to take part in London 2012 (in the end they all pulled out, tried to ban any of their players from taking part, and generally acted like the most spiteful bastards they could possibly be), so the English FA just went it alone and selected a squad from a mix of the nations anyway.

As the hosts, there was no real impediment to this fucking shambles still resulting in a place in the tournament, but it's proven impossible to organise things for 2016 in such a bitter and oppositional environment.

I'm curious what the ratings will be like. The Japan loss got 1.7M despite starting after midnight on a work night. While this is on paper a less significant match it has the advantages of being on a Saturday, at a more accessible time of day, and against the auld foe.

England doesn't have IOC membership.

team USA really needs to win tomorrow. We can't be considered the best world cup team of all time if we haven't won a world cup in this millennium. Making every semi final round in the WC existence is pretty impressive no doubt

I think the one match that hurt us is the Colombia match. It wasn't a pretty match and not one to be proud of but a "win is a win".
