Referee wasted time throughout the match with free kick nitpicks and small talk and yet cuts it off three minutes before time.

Blatant elbow hit to the jaw. Referee didn't catch it.

interesting... i thought it had to do with the Nigerian girl kicking the ball over the Aussie laying on the ground, before the Goal Kick.

At least that is what I thought saw when I looked over late.

anyway good match. Aussies are going to cause some fits if/when they advance.

Its not that Australia didn't take their chances, Ropinhoe got lucky with her first deflection, but Hope Solo pulled out some amazing saves. She really kept them in the game, because Aus could and maybe even should have gone 3 up in that first half, Solo's though was brilliant and the US have the sort of girls that can finish a much if you just give them half an opportunity, they will punish you and thats what happen to us.

Our girls are carrying a lot of injuries right now, so I am hoping they can hold out, their fitness doesn't seem to be there as both games now they have hit a wall at 60min but otherwise, I think they have shown plenty of moments where the sort of plays they have put together and the creativity and execution put them up their with any team in the comp.

Their ability to be consistent over the 90min seems to be their weakness right now.

Yeah I never saw the replay of the Aussie USA game as sbs don't show them in the evening!

I agree our quality is good enough and we have the talent to go far. I think the match fitness is the problem. I'm surprised they didn't play more warm up games in Canada. They'll get fitter as the tournament goes on hopefully.

I missed it what happened that some are calling for a red card?
As the others said, elbow to face, but what made it worse was that the ball was nowhere near them, the Nigerian girl was marking an Aus girl and just clocked the Aussie girl with her elbow for no reason straight to the jaw. It wasn't like they were running for the ball and she copped one to the face, the Nigerian girl just decided she was going to smack her one.

I missed it too before the replay. It happened away from the ball so it was easy to not focus on it.

depends on how Sweden plays against the US. If they bounce back then yes, other wise if that Sweden team that played Nigeria shows up against Australia...I think it's in the bag.
Well, theorically Sweden is the 5th team on FIFA ranking and Australia is the 10th.

#USA XI: Solo; Leroux; Sauerbrunn; Lloyd (c); Krieger; Holiday; Brian; Rapinoe; Johnston; Klingenberg; Press

#SWE XI: Lindahl; Fischer; Dahlkvist; Schelin (c); Jakobsson; Ilestedt; Sjogran; Nilsson; Seger; Samuelsson; Rubensson

Press and Leroux up top?! Thank you, Jill Ellis.

gg Aussies

Why does that Australia-Sweden game next week have to start at the same time as the USA match? :(

Simultaneous starts Makes it harder to throw a game if they know they don't have to win to progress in their last game.

Aussies Sweden should be good.

I can't believe I'm saying this but go usa, you have to win by more than two goals please!!!!

I don't know why players think they can get away with shit like that with all those cameras....

well unless you're Olivier Giroud.

Interesting!

Don't know about Brian starting though.

Hopefully Heath can come in and be the super sub

Wow, disgrace indeed.
This also happen in 2010 or 2006 from memory. I cant remember who it was though, but basically the commentators were apologising and talking about what a farce it was even at half time. Both teams basically just kept passing it round the defenders while the opposition forwards limply jogged between them.

I remember some of the commentators being furious, there really wasnt anything to commentate so it ended up being a discussion about how farcical it was and how ashamed they were of what was happening and apologising to viewers for the majority of the match.

I actually don't remember even though I did watch some matches. Probably didn't watch that one by chance. Seriously though, absolutely disgraceful.

Brian looked good outside in the Mexico friendly, but she was invisible against South Korea.

I don't know why Ellis never uses players who are good on the flanks, like Heath or O'Reilly. Rapinoe is the other one, and all our offense flows through her when we play.

Sweden Denmark tied in the last few minutes at a Euro to keep Italy out. the last goal was very suspicious.
