Holy shit, that looks almost like a Jojo character!

And yeah, seems like too much work in mahvel to try to get better with your team against many other teams while getting a special counter team just for ChrisG(and getting almost no chance to try it against him).

Name me a Doom player who's anywhere remotely close to being as good as Chris G at fishing for those air throws and foot dive. Few people understand that Doom is the perfect character for Chris G, who has always stand out for his patience and ability to read his opponents. Do you seriously think frauds like Clockwork and Marlinpie have better Dooms when they can't even land hits without fraudulent Ammy THCs?
Apologyman is way better and so is FChamp. They both have made solo Doom comebacks with no resources in dire situations and have insane set ups/confirms with the character. ChrisG's Doom was looking crusty all at NCR with dropped combos, confirms and decisions. Next thing you will tell me that Chris has the best Vergil because he's the best at fishing for Helm Breakers.

Fishing for Foot Dive is not even a real skill and ChrisG doesn't even rely on it that hard, he goes for ADD j.M.

Kusuro would get bodied free by ChrisG. Dude was scared to face ChrisG at FR when he won before his MorriDoom team lacked Vergil.

In God's Beard we believe?

If Yipes dropped Magnus and picked up Strider, he would have the best chance out of all players to beat Chris consistently. But he doesn't because Strider is "not his type of character".

Was that when ChrisG was running a morridoom + firebrand team and mihe eliminated him? I'm old and my memory fails me sometimes.

I have some random questions I hope someone can answer for me about FGC news. This is probably extremely old news but where has Combofiend went? I haven't seen him in the last few majors I've watched, hell I can't remember the last time I've saw him play.

And I keep hearing talk about balance patching Marvel, but has Capcom stated they're looking to patch it or is it just people talking?

Combofiend works for Capcom now, so he's not going to be entering tournaments with cash prizes, but he still commentates.

Capcom isn't going to patch marvel because of licensing issues, but the minions are keeping the dream alive.

Combofiend is working for capcom now so he can't join tournaments with money prizes or something like that.

There was a leak from a capcom insider codenamed "gaf_dahbomba" that said that a patch is coming, otherwise it's just people talking.

The Marvel balance patch talk is just that... talk. Capcom has no current plans for UMVC3 (that's their official statement on it) and it's hinted that licensing issue is a big factor in no support in the forseeable future for the game. The only reason patch talk has been prevalent as of late is because FGTV does a feature every Monday night talking about what they would like to see changed in the game via balance patch. Oh and FChamp claims a patch is coming after EVO/next year according to his source but yea... that's BS unless proven otherwise.

Thanks for the answers. Kinda expected the patch talk to be blowing hot air. I know Combofiend works for Capcom but never realized that means he can't play in tourneys. Makes sense, now that I think about it.

What I don't get when it comes to marvel at this point of the game is, WHY DON'T THEY USE AN ANTI-MORRIDOOM TEAM? There have to be a few characters who can do well against her.

Second quote mostly answers the first, imo. I think part of the reason it's taking so long for people to put in work against Chris G is because people have been playing the odds somewhat. "He's one guy in a ~300 man bracket; what's the chance I'll actually bump into him?" (That probably goes double for any player in a scene outside of the northeast, as they don't encounter him very often at all.)

And the result of that type of thinking is that you get something like a homogenized NorCal metagame with a dozen different players on stream all playing the exact same Magneto/Doom/Vergil team. I think it's telling that a number of people who have had some success against ChrisG lately have been B-tier players playing offbeat characters.

I think this probably wouldn't be the case if Morrigan/Doom was more popular, as it would force people to adapt or die and the incentive to contend against it would be greater. Notice that a lot of the NY players tend to do well against other Morrigan/Doom players when they do run into them.

This topic makes me giggle every time I see it pop up lol

I hope to see the day soon where someone goes "Oh, screw it. Chris/Dante/Shuma LETS GO!" when they have a situation like Neo's where their team will just not work.

NorCal has a homogenized metagame because almost everyone there are unashamed tier whores who think Mag/Doom is invincible and perfect, not because they don't give a damn about MorriDoom. Lots of people in NorCal and other places have tried out MorriDoom too, but guys like Drew Grimey, Rattana and ShadyK just want to win without any effort and without having to think constantly while doing SF Fly SF Unfly. That's why they went back to their old team after trying out MorriDoom, they can't be bothered to get past the learning curve.

I think the idea that people aren't trying against MorriDoom and don't have any MorriDoom tactics is pretty absurd, why the heck did Xian and Helix get bodied if that's the case? If only East Coast players have been trying to beat MorriDoom then why did Xian get 13th in Final Round but 25th at NCR? Everyone has been trying against Chris G and even today you can see Ranmasama not being far from beating him. The issue is that people aren't respecting Chris G and acknowledging that to beat him you need to outthink him, not rely on gimmicks which he has downloaded 1 year ago and not get bodied by Doom/Vergil after beating Morrigan.

Could someone link to the Regionals' finals please for each game played?

Thank you so much! I'll take the KoF and the GG, please!

That shit was awful, man. I'm sitting down there watching it in-person and looking at Fchamp cracking a smile while he picked Ghost Rider.

I mean, that shit worked on Bronson during casuals at FGTV, but it clearly wasn't doing anything to KaneBlue after the first two rounds.

I'm just fucking surprised Shady K didn't convince him to switch out during the third game. God what a stubborn moron giving up a possible NCR11 title fight against Chris G.

Fchamp saving his new secret Anti-ChrisG tech for EVO

Fchamp saving his new secret Anti-ChrisG tech for EVO
i think the pressure of not repeating as evo champ might be getting to him. who knows maybe he is saving some tech for evo but i doubt its anything chris hasn't already seen. neo was surprised when champ was trying out his magneto/morrigan/phoenix team the other day on stream since it was supposed to be a secret team.

God's Beard is in no mood to beat a training dummy, let alone ChrisG. The Norcal loss has killed his fighting spirit.

And ChrisG is by default the best Doom and Vergil player in the world. Hold dat.
Did anyone who went to NCR Friday/Saturday notice the amount of cute female chicks playing UMvC3 at the pools/casual set-ups?
Yeah, I noticed.

its not exaggerated. They literally patched the game like 3 times in one month. There was a period of time where Kano was top tier due to a patch and a week later he was garbage. Original MK9 didn't even have that much armor, but patched MK9 has armor everywhere.

The patches were definitely annoying. Especially Kano's upball bullshit, whoever thought that was a good idea needed to be catapulted into space.

I keep hearing on TYM that with Lobo a balance patch is coming and something is happening to Ares already, kinda early for that and I hope it's wrong heh.

Only Mihe can save evo now

Mihe got bopped hard at Texas Showdown. Ain't nobody worried about him, but EVO will still be hype though.

Hype is helped by support and a good game. They've already got a good game, all the support from sponsors helps with the hype. The nicer everything is (equipment, venue, etc.) the more people will want to come. I already specifically addressed that I never said pot money automatically generates lasting hype, it's about building things over time. MLG failed at fighting games because their format is dumb and they dump games left and right. They're run for profit whereas Evo is run mainly for the community.

Hype has nothing to do with how good the game is. See Marvel 3.

The problem with MLG is that they don't have Capcom games to run, they didn't do a good job at marketing themselves to the community, and holding on to their continuation rule which makes clueless people think their entire tournament format is stupid. Other than that, their events were fine. If you talk to anyone that went, they prefer MLG over any community tournament.

MLG is for profit, but so is EVO. And EVO drops games every year. Half the games that EVO is running this year won't even be back next year.

Am I the only one thinking that morrigan/doom breaks the game and its hype ?

Ranmasama/Neo match was so good, like what a top 8 mvc tournament match should be.

The soul fist spam is just so lame.

Is capcom planning on fixing it or do they consider it "balanced" ? (= not giving an unfair advantage)

So, someone in the NCR thread said something about just going to bed and waking up to the news that ChrisG won it all in Marvel...so I took that advice.

Just according to keikaku

No, you're not alone. But, marvel's all about abusing cheap stuff. You either deal with it or play something else.

They do not have the Marvel license anymore. The limits of what they can do without a license are not entirely known, but they have said explicitly no updates are coming because of the license issue.

The UMVC3 teams have all been assigned to other stuff.

My problem isn't the playing, it's the watching. I'm not saying Capcom has to nerf anything. I'm just saying that watching UMvC3 pools is more entertaining than top 8 these days.
