Fighting Games Weekly | April 29 - May 5 | Gods Among Loser's Bracket

The bits of melee I caught I couldn't get into. Will try to watch the finals later to give it a chance, but I'm still pretty dubious about it all. Any report on if the organisation of it went well?

I wasn't at the tourney so I can't answer your question about the organization of it and etc. But what about it stops you from getting into it? The lack of understanding? The characters? The decisions the players are making? The rule set?

Yeah I've been into Melee for years so I don't know what it's like to spectate it with little to no knowledge about the game.

Well I recall in the NCR thread he was linked to this so I'm trying to narrow down what else could be off putting or confusing or etc since that video tends to cover a good amount of what it takes to understand Smash (or Melee I guess) at a basic competitive level. I mean, yeah, it doesn't cover everything (but if it did, that would be insanely long if not a bit overwhelming for one video) surely it helps in some way; coupled with the commentary that was at NCR (which was pretty good imo despite lolgasps).

So plz less sarcasm/mocking Panda, kthx.

How do you know if anti Chris G tech works if you don't try it on Chris G? If it is truly anti Chris G tech then he wouldn't be able to counter it regardless if he figures it out or not. If you make him switch teams then that's a plus. I think people like to hear the word "secret tech" and think their a real scientist or something.

There really isn't a need for anti-Chris G tech. Folks get really close to beating him then just drop the ball. Beating Morrigan is fine but you gotta close it out from there. Folks also gotta switch gears when Chris G changes his attack plan as well.

I agree with this, also I hate any talk of tech really, play solid and win, you think if you somehow make it to Chris and try this "tech" that its going to work a second time on a player like Chris? Your gimmick will work once and then you'll be mind fucked when he adapts.

Also the best thing about Chris is that he doesn't rely on "tech" he plays a mundane and basic fundamental Doom and Vergil but guess what, he wins with it because he plays a solid game most of the time.

Has anyone ever tried to snap in Chris's Vergil, kill him and THEN take out Morrigan?
EDIT: I guess even if you did, he could still comeback with Doom.

I think people exaggerate the early MK9 patch situation way too much whenever it's brought up. The game still ended up with a great Top 8 in its first Evo with some nice character variety.

Agreed, every time someone brings up the patch situation it was from someone that never really played MK in a competitive setting. There actually was a 6 month gap between the last 2 patches but perception is reality I guess?

NCR was great as a stream monster. Glaring lack of Injustice though, which I troll IPW guys about to no end. It's like free CPM left on the table.

As for Injustice at EVO..it would be nice if it happened but I doubt it. WB should just do their own league and say fuck everyone else if you ask me. Monsters are thirsty for it anyways.

RE: SFXT at NCR: The EG boys make it boring to watch, one of them needs to switch up Rufus/Chun already.
I think SFxT is the new CVS2 of our generation.
Everyone -really- wants to watch Marvel/Injustice/AE, but SFXT is that game that top players swear is good but noone wants to watch. Very similar to the MVC2 era where CVS2 got zero respect in the tourney circuit (which makes me laugh because so many forum monsters begging for a re release today)

Yeah, Chris's Doom is realy solid, is the thing. He's made plenty of comebacks with a much more rudimentary Doom before.

Also, looking back at previous TRB brackets, I lost to SenorTaxi (choked, actually, considering I was up 2-0). Now I can say that I got beaten by the guy who sent Chris G to Loser's! That's gotta mean something good, right?

You could say it was...

...an injustice.

The optimal thing to do is to kill Morrigan, land a hit on Doom and snap in Vergil. If he makes a comeback with Doom it's really your own fault but with Vergil it's too hard to keep him at bay with XF3. Right now his Vergil isn't at that caliber but it will be soon enough.

Is capcom planning on fixing it or do they consider it "balanced" ? (= not giving an unfair advantage)
They consider it "creative" and part of the Marvel appeal.

Wow Xian is really good with Gen.

I thought that character was always really weak back when I played SF4. Anybody mind pointing out what made him so successful recently?

I'm sure this has been discussed before but for me personally I and it seems everyone else gets the most hyped when ever Chris G in marvel or infiltration in sf4 are "on the ropes" everyone wants to see these "villians" lose. SfxT doesn't have that same draw and MK/injustice scene needs it. Not that its all it needs for a scene to thrive but it helps. We need more injustice time though. I enjoying watching it, when its streamed.

There's no anti-ChrisG tech. FChamp does not have specific tech but he does have tactics that he was practicing all day for 2 weeks straight.

His strategy against ChrisG was to use his Mag/Dorm/Doom team like at EVO. He was going to snipe Morrigan with EMP or Doom to build meter. He would also stay up in the corner and tank missiles to build meter. He just needed 2 bars. Then he was going to play it safe and look for an opportunity to DHC into Dormammu while also getting damage on Doom with Chaotic Flame. Once Dorm's game start and Morrigan has less health he can beat her. Also once Morrigan starts Soul Spamming FChamp had the tactic to spam his teleports to make her cross her inputs up and then go for a fish hook or have Missiles hit her. He has been practicing this tech a lot if people watched his game play and he picked this up by playing against ShadyK. He was practicing optimized Dorm plus Missiles combo, enough to kill Morrigan off of most touches.

He also solidified his play against Doom and Vergil to max optimization. It's a super rare sight for a Doom player to even touch FChamp these days and it's getting harder and harder for Vergils as well. This is why it's disappointing he never got to face ChrisG, he is really the main person who was actually practicing against ChrisG aside from Apologyman.

Frame traps, wake game and one of the most useful supers in the game.

plus someone at Capcom grew a brain and gave em back his chains.

I'm not talking about the gameplay aspects of the patching- I'm talking about the logistical ones.

Chun Li should be banned from Street Fighter games.

Chun-Li is practically invisible in the SF4 tourney scene.

Both Ricky and Justin like Chun-Li so that already guarantees 2 Chuns in US top 8s. Then there is also ChrisG who replaced Xiao Yu with Chun. There you go, 3 Chuns in top 8 for the near future of SFxT.

I know this is very subjective but I really don't like the lighting/character models of Injustice. Its like they went out of their way to make them look plain. The background stuff though (and the level transitions) are amazing/fun. Just wish I was into DC/MK more.

It seems like "played metric tons of SF3" correlates pretty highly with using Chun in high-level play.
