Fighting Games Weekly | Feb 24 - Mar 2 | Play Seriously

Are peeps still playing AE on 360? I'm on playing now if anyone wants to play. My gamertag is the same as my name here.

Some people are just not on the charts. The dude I played at first round UFGT9 could barely do combos. I almost felt bad putting his entire team in unblockables. Maybe Scott is free.

You're awesome Karst. I literally laughed when I read that.

He has a tag in front of his name

I think he means business, Karst.

So what, me and a bunch of my friends were gonna give ourselves tags as a group, NSM so we could troll people. Take it with a grain of salt and don't psyche yourself out.

Everybody and their mom is streaming tonight.

Wow. When Gamerbee first came into the spotlight, he couldn't speak a lick of English. He even has less of an accent than Xian who's been speaking it longer.

Most if not all Singaporeans grow up learning english. So it would be tough to have "less" of an accent when everyone sounds like you lol. I'm willing to bet Gamerbee watched a lot of american television since he probably isn't exposed to the language as much.

What follows are my impressions. I wasn't able to watch until this morning, so I avoided the thread so I wouldn't get any spoilers.

Did they seat all the asian players on one side and all the black players on the other side on purpose?

This is my first time watching this. Why are all the asians on one side and blacks on the other?

Still its pretty peculiar because this is not so subtle racial segregation.

I don't think it was intentional, but man, it sure sticks out like a sore thumb when you see it.

Not related, but definitely bad timing, when they highlighted the players out of the eight that were playing, they kept the highlight on Sanford and not on Alioune:

lol there are esports fans in the chat complaining about the "casters"

What were they saying?

----

ESGN is desperately trying to make the wheel what Lord Helix is to TPP.

"Ryan" actually means little king.

After the second game, when seeing Sanford holding his head in his hands, I imagine he said to himself "I should have played Cammy."

Also, every time I see Laugh, I can tell he's foaming at the mouth for the Evo 2013 runback.

Damn, Laugh with the laughing at Infiltration going down 4-2 to Alioune.

This was a great set to watch. Looked like Infiltration was going to get bodied, then started coming back a little bit, and Alioune came through in the end.

Infiltration giving Laugh daggers from the other couch when Alioune spinning the wheel.

There's a defensive respin option now? I'm glad as a community we've optimized button checks to the point where we can do things like this
not sure if kappa or not
.

Better choice is to show him what the stream will probably look like.

This is insane. Looking forward to watching it at SCR.

Haha after the episode ended gootecks was like next week on fightnight: Alioune vs. Laugh but the screen just had a splash image of Infiltration vs. Alioune. Def need to work on their accuracy and typos lol.

It's stuff that needs to be fixed but it's "fit and finish" (read: minor detail work); the major things that needed to be fixed were, and the show is many times the better for it.

YES, my question confirmed Gamerbee for an upcoming fight night lol. That was like my 4th question answered so far.

Has anyone else noticed why no one from EG has been on yet? A strange omission.

Also, I'm betting they're looking to get Daigo for when Infiltration and Xian are on (given his last successes against them in long sets).

As weird as it sounds, it might have something to do with being Taiwanese. All of my Taiwanese friends are immigrants but their accent is much more subtle than my Hong Kong friends who've lived here a lot longer.

This. Kokonoe patch is whatevs, if the patch wouldn't be happening she'd be banned. Be more thankful for Hazama/Valk/Haku etc nerfs and pray things end up a bit less top heavy.

So....why is the patch whatevs? Making her more fair and not ban-able is a hell of a big deal

Should've worded it better, Kokonoe getting nerfed is whatevs, she'd get banned and we'd move on or she'd get patched and she'd be playable. The overall rebalancing is much nicer, as a lot of people don't know how unbalanced the game is even without Kokonoe. It's less of a "Kokonoe" patch and it's more of an evening out kind of deal.

Banning a character is never ok, so it's a great thing if the patch fix whatever bulshit she has that makes her that broken. If it fixes even more things, awesome then

Possibly. I don't have any Taiwanese friends so I couldn't say. I know a few people who immigrated from the Philippines in their teens and they knew very little english. They told me they watched a lot of american shows while learning english. Now, if you heard them speak you'd probably wouldn't even think they were immigrants.

Meh, banning a character has the stigma that it's awful, but honestly it's not the biggest deal. It sucks and has negative consequences, but overall the game would be fine. Just trying to get rid of the "Kokonoe patch" mindset and talk more about the rest of what's getting changed, cause that's what's really exciting. Even if you never have to fight a Koko before May, you'll eventually run into a Valk/Tao/Hazama/Litchi and feel the pain of BBCP balance.

Some of that may be the buzz of this game when it came out was best balanced BB yet, and then Kokonoe blew it up.

Initial perceptions on balance mean a ton, accurate or not. Right now, I think P4U is getting a heavy dose of anti-hype because people believe it's going to be massively imbalanced (don't know how true that is, but that's the impression I'm getting)

Definitely was the buzz. BB is relatively balanced on one side, it's just really lopsided. The top 4 destroy a lot of the game and combine them with the rest of top 10, anybody in the lower half is basically not worth your time if you want to win. Once you add in Koko, it gets even worse. The low tiers pop up from time to time because Japanese format is single elim single game and usually teams, and NA is so underdeveloped you can get away with virtually anything.

On the flipside, P4U was pretty balanced towards the end of it's life. The top 5 was strong, but only 2 characters were considered so bad you didn't want to use them(Liz/Kanji), and even then a Kanji(Nikari I think it was) ended up top 8 at Godsgarden while Bace got to winner's finals at NEC with Liz. Just nature of the game and how it developed made it so the mid tiers could still steamroll through just hard as the top. P4U2 looks about the same with the mid tiers being even stronger, the only big issues are Narukami being 3S Chun Li tier and Liz somehow getting worse after being at the bottom of vanilla.

A lot of people don't understand end game P4U since they abandoned that thought when they realized the relative simplicity of the mid level. They do understand seeing Narukami being an elder god in P4U2 though ;_;. On the BB side, BB meta is, again, mad underdeveloped here, plus there's a lot more going on so people have harder times putting it all together.

I think it's clear by now that ASW doesn't know how to balance a game. Maybe they'll get lucky with CP v2 though.
