Fighting Games Weekly | Feb 24 - Mar 2 | Play Seriously

Any idea what I should anti-air with if somebody is right on top of my head? 6P seems sketch since if I've been crossed up, it won't come out... (unless I should be doing it preemptively enough that the cross up wouldn't matter)

Right above Faust's head kinda his weak spot.

Faust has great horizontal control, but weak horizontal movement. Conversely, he has great vertical movement, but lacks vertical control.

If people are bopping you on the head, you want to adjust your zone of control upward and greet them in the air. IE: Jump when they jump. You want to jump and meet them at the same level, or jump higher. Faust has a lot of downward attack angels in the air. Think two Sentinels battling to get above each other.

Faust has lots of ways to control his air decent. I don't got the game in front of me, but off the top of my head:
*FDing in the air puts you in a float. Tap FD to slow your decent. Or I might be thinking of repeatedly FDCing your j.2K, or both..
*His airdashes are also super slow, so that can stall alot too.
*And HeadBombs from the air will delay you. And, blocking your own bombs will restore your double jump / air dash.
Use these, in combination, to control you decent.

Your horizontal zoning obviously comes from your great ground normals. Additionally, using FDC Drill low to the ground with j.HS is awesome. Experiment.

Ground to Air:
*6P as an antiair is weird. It's like Cammy's DP, it loses its invincibility right before its active frames. Horrible recovery. You don't see 6P used alot.
*2K has a great hitbox for ground to air. Think like a SF4 style anti-air.
*2S kinda like a Ryu/Ken crouching feirce.
*5K as mentioned. I don't like to think of it as anti-air, as in anti-jump-in. It's more of anti-airdash, or anti-jump.

Faust is more about not letting air to ground happen against him. You wanna jump up and turn it in to an Air to Air, or just get the fuck out of there. Run under them, or away from them, or teleport away.

Edit: Oh ya, and air throw. Throws are pretty good in this game.

Part of the problem IS that they're too big. They think they don't have to take advice from the smaller crowd on how to do things, and they try to impose their way of doing things simply because they're the bigger entity.

But if the FGC truly hated what was cool then they wouldn't keep being dragged back to the same staple games.

Anime fighting game players have this hipster stuff down pat, between playing the most obscure fighters and dropping games before they come out -- never mind when they get popular.

Nick Bruiser went and pulled a Sanford on Aqua, so he switched to Mega Man X.
And he was playing the scrub game in the series, too. When's Tyson?

This is the only thread I really post in but I'm curious to any NYC folk in here. Is it true that your record low for cold weather is only something like 4F?

I hear so much complaining about the cold and bad weather from NYC folk around this time of year, so I assumed they got it as bad as we did. Have I been misinformed my whole life?!

Michael Tan vs NGL Chris on the WNF stream.

Best Ken in US vs. best Ken in Japan

101 entrants for WNF AE, jesus christ

Wednesday Night Fights is going to end up being Thursday Night Fights at this rate. Are they even doing The Runback this week? That would end up running over into SCR itself, at this rate).

Chris G is supposedly at WNF. I wonder why he won't be attending SCR.
i saw him on stream so yeah he is there.

i doubt the runback has more people enter even if all the east coast and other people show up.

I feel like there have been lower temperatures than that in my lifetime (we've definitely seen under 0F, but that's been increasingly rare the last few years), but generally that looks about right.

With that being said, I fucking hate the cold and will bitch about it if it's 32F or -32F all the same.

This is the article I read http://www.myfoxny.com/story/24374113/polar-vortex-deep-freeze

I'm so disillusioned. I always saw posts about the cold weather being a problem in NY for like NLBC and shit, then I read that. Tonight's an average night here for winter time and it's 16F (-4F with windchill) and not too many people seemed to be bitching.

I guess I can't relate to NYCers as much as I thought I could :(

100 + for a weekly?

Edit: Oh... SCR this weekend.

Their was this one week a few years ago where Marvel had like 110 people and SF4 had 90. That was back when Marvel and SF4 were still together on WNF and they had "Seasons". It was the start of a new season and it was pretty huge as those numbers would indicate.

So apparently online play for games on Wii and original DS is being shut down on May 20th. So you guys had better get your last online games of Tatsunoko vs. Capcom in!

Man, I remember when that video came out... and that arcade... and then I realize it's been gone longer than it ever existed. Damn, now I feel old.

RIP Tokyo Game Action. ;_;

You live around Mass? I had no idea that place ever existed but I wish I did.

Thank you! This is the kind of theory stuff I was looking for. I will try this all out. Is Faust's teleport a decent escape option?

It's not a reversal, if that's what you're asking. Teleport is more for gimmicks really. Focus more on your positioning and zoning/footsies. I dunno what fighting games you got in your background, but maybe try thinking of Faust like Sentinel. Strong ground to ground normals with a way to get in to the air, use your great air to ground normals, then get back down to the ground quickly.

Not anymore, but I used to and I went there waaaaaaaaaay too much.

Word, I think about starting an arcade in Mass all the time (especially in Boston - we need one desperately). I need to meet some rich/smart investors. There is a new arcade called The Quarters in Hadley, MA that I've been hearing great things ago. Pretty sure they have a couple candy cabs and Street Fighter Alpha.

I play UMvC3 mostly. I'm assuming you're referencing MvC2 Sent though, haha. So my goal is to use my air normals to keep them honest/ground them -> abuse my strong grounded normals once they're grounded?

just watch this

Nemo's Faust currently get crushed by Machabo's Ky, but still good

edit: Low level Faust play is mostly a Keep away zoning game, but as you get more familiar and experienced, you can add a sick rushdown to your repertoire.
