Fighting Games Weekly | Feb 24 - Mar 2 | Play Seriously

Wow I just woke up, good timing. They moved a lot of tools to awakening state, but they still don't amount to a lot of damage outside of big stupid starters into Garu, and it's still not all that much. The awakened Zio beam is hella nice, but still not the game changer she needs. It's really sad because in Vanilla she would've been playable if Narukami/Mits didn't exist, and her problems were really fixable. Now she just struggles in everything. No defensive options, no damage, still no real pressure.

It's unfortunate, the game looks really solid but Liz got the super short end and Narukami is a bit too good, which is definitely going to turn people off. Everything else is looking relatively balanced.
Narukami is at the top of the tier-list?
Yeah, that is turning me off big time: it's the only character in the game I really, truly, hate. He's so boring and so full of shits... :(

Well, if Liz really is that bad, maybe that will "force" me to finally learn another character... I'll probably give Sho and Yukari a chance, and if none of them suits me I'll delve seriously into SLab. :)

Also, quick pro tip for anybody wanting to keep up with developing ASW games in the Japanese arcades: Use the guild sites.

Great way to keep up with character usage and how characters are doing, along with seeing which notable players are playing. Some of the names I'm seeing playing Xrd are pretty interesting.

The Narukami thing is actually pretty funny. They took away his 5D oki (he was the best character in Vanilla even without it) and gave him like a million tools to make up for it. He's a lot more interesting and looks way more fun, he's just also the god. Teddie is like right behind him, with Mits/Aigis/SLab being really strong too.

Edit: Jourdal put all the Ogawa/Nemo/Machabo stuff in playlists, so enjoy.

Yeah the comp is great there, no doubt, but I felt some nerves there, maybe for playing an international tourney for the first time

Well now that they've had a taste of the local talent, lets see what they can learn from this and if they can adjust. I really didn't like Ultrachen(mainly James though I think) bringing up the sand bagging thing as much as they did. No more excuses this weekend, we'll see how well they can perform under our rules in our house.

BTW, this isn't Michael Tan's first time playing abroad. He went to Shadowloo Shodown 2012 I believe. He was eliminated before top 8, but lost twice to fellow countryman KOK(I think) in a double jeopardy scenario.

Yea I expected better, it's too late in SF4's lifespan to sandbag effectively. Most stuff is known

Flying out to SCR late tonight after I get through some work today. I'll see you guys in Divekick pools tomorrow morning! Please stop by and try out the Addition Edition patch if you have some free time at SCR.

Is there one for + R?

He also went to the Thai tournament last year. It's still probably really difficult to adjust for people who don't really travel abroad like Michael-tan and Wao. In Michael-tan's case, there were a lot more Japanese players in Australia and Thailand when he went. Now it's only really Wao so it's probably a lot more uncomfortable.

All that empty talk wasn't because of regional bias for the west coast. People said that as an excuse for ChrisG losing, as if EC was holding him back. A different kind of fanboy.

doesn't help that chris himself echoed the same sentiments

Someone who agrees! I don't feel alone in GAF anymore.

I think the last straw of me discussing P4U on GAF was someone telling me Liz went even (or close to it) with Narukami :/

I actually hadn't kept up with the development, so I didn't know YRC was actually 25 now.

Maybe that's why Bridget's not in yet.
Seriously, he can get away with anything.

Really? That's a weird thing for Chris to say also contradicts things he said before.

New Yatagarasu dev diary.

http://yatagarasu-ftg.com/dev-diary/yatagarasu-aoc-developer-diary-feb-27th/

Release date revised to Summer, beta before then, and the demo arcade version to be made available to backers very soon. Plus screens and art at the link.

We are working non-stop, but given the situation we are forced to revise our release date from February to summer.

The reason for the delay is that our graphics production hit two major setbacks. Our February release date depended on having two artists working at full output, but it took longer than we had expected to find a 2D pixel artist who could meet our requirements. In the end, we were able to pull together a team of two artists (including Kotani) and one assistant, but it took a long time to get that point. Despite the delay, we had planned to make an initial release in February with some of the new characters, but our new artist fell ill at the end of last year and has been unable to work since, so we have had to abandon the February release. We are searching to find a replacement to work with Kotani, but the level of 2D pixel artist required for Yatagarasu is extremely hard to find in Japan, so for now Kotani is now working on the graphics alone.

Please accept our sincere apologies. We will announce a more exact release date when we have more visibility on our overall schedule.

(I moved some sentences in the above quote so that the release date info could be seen more clearly.)

Beta Release & JAEPO Version

Unfortunately, the above delay has also impacted our preparation for the beta release. We are now reviewing the beta schedule as part of the overall schedule review and will announce an update as soon as possible. Our apologies to all of our IndieGogo campaign supporters of Beta Access and above level contributors for this delay.

In the interim, we will release to beta-qualifying campaign backers an early version of what will become the arcade (NESiCAxLive) version of Yatagarasu Attack on Cataclysm which was exhibited at the JAEPO (Japan Amusement Expo) event earlier this month. This version does not include new characters, but is arcade compliant and runs on an updated game engine. As such, the resolution has been improved and there are some changes to current characters. We will provide more details when we release the build next week.

Any good I-No footage? She's my secondary character and my boy Johnny isn't in the game. I also play a little Zatoichi but he's a bit too Folsom Street Fair for my tastes.

Speaking of, Japanese devs have always been really good at making straight male adolescents idolize unambiguously gay characters like Cloud and Sephiroth. They're the most supportive community of game developers for LGBT representation.

WOW at those Ogawa matches. Nemo got destroyed. That guy is just on a whole other level. Either that or they messed up on Eddie, ONCE AGAIN.

Probably a bit of both.

Haha yeah. Like I said, not a lot of people got into end game P4U stuff. I talk with a lot of the better/best NA guys often and Narukami is generally considered god tier, Chie is usually tied with him and sometimes placed slightly higher depending on who you ask.

As far as Eddie goes, I had a funny conversation about that. I said week one Eddie looks strong, and my friend responded "week one Eddie is secretly year nine Eddie." He functions essentially the same as he has forever and is very familiar. Also, things are based on #R, and Eddie was legit diety tier in that game. Eddie looks mad good, but I wouldn't be offended yet. Eddie players are just ahead of the curve for now, give it time.

About I-No, she has a high skill curve too. Unlike Eddie though, she's been through a lot more changes and generally hasn't been as good or prevelant as him.

Final Edit: For those new to GG, Ogawa is one of the old gods of the game. My Twitter feed almost imploded when he ended up on a stream.

Who on GAF is going to scr again? I am going on Saturday and Sunday. Would love to get some games in (soul calibur, sf4, tekken, even marvbel, heh) if time and schedules allow.

When I played P4 I tried to main Liz, and while Narukami felt like a horrible matchup it didn't seem like it was impossible to figure out. Then I moved on and don't particularly feel the need to look back!

EF-12 probably the closest serious thing at this point

EF-12 really needs a proper development team to spring up and make some stuff for it. At the moment it's still in the tinkering phase.

Anyway...

IVGC HYPE.

I know a lot of FGC-GAF skips on European events because of the timezones and being unfamiliar with the players, but I strongly encourage you all to keep an eye on IVGC this weekend even if you're also planning on monstering the SCR stream. Unfortunately for most monsters, there is only French streams this year - no Armshouse - and as I'm going I wasn't going to do what I planned to do two years back and restream the event on Twitch with English commentary. So expect Ken Bogard and co being VERY EXCITED IN FRENCH and still bringing the hype even if you cannot understand a word they say. :)

You should care about IVGC because:

0. I'm going and you all want to see if I get Ghandi'd again
1. Xian and Dimineon are both heading out to the event.
2. Xian has an awesome pool - himself, LordDVD (arguably the best Honda in Europe at the moment as Cuongster is not attending) and BigFool, the Scottish Gen player and top 3 Scottish player overall. There's potential for an amazing/hilarious Gen mirror in that pool, which will probably be the first pool on stream on Sunday.
3. There are a tonne of solid EU players out from across the continent. London is represented by Ryan Hart, Andreas, Problem X, F Word and IMSTILLDADADDY. Scandinavia is sending Popi and Skatan. France is sending pretty much everyone. Even the smaller scenes like Ireland and Italy will have representation.
4. Marvel, although a smaller event at IVGC than SF4 by a good margin, will have a lot of good EU Marvel players attending, such as WhiteBlack.
5. If you're a 3D fan, it's the biggest French SC5 tournament. If you like SC at all you should watch it.
6. Oh yeah, and if you're much of a KOF fan a certain Bala is attending for the KOF games.
7. JJBAASB will be in attendance and will have a tournament.
8. If you're one of the five people in the western world who take the Naruto games seriously, it also has a tournament.
9. Oh, and it's a USF4 loc test. :-)
