Fighting Games Weekly | July 16-22

I need some combo help with Taskmaster. Seems the only combo i can consistently do online is his web swing, double medium, webswing. It's definitely not optimized. I am trying to do his double relaunch combo, but can only really do it in the corner with any kind of regular frequency.

If i try to do webswing, medium, webswing, heavy, angled arrows, it just falls to crap.

I've also seen a full combo in the corner, to (air arrow otg, shield skills, grab) X 2 and have no idea how to go about doing this one.

My team is wesker, taskmaster, vergil, in that order if that helps.

Raffle Monster is not a person, Raffle Monster is a symbol. ;_;

EDIT: Yeah Markman is almost spot on. I say almost cuz i dont think theres regret. :3

I don't think Yipes has the tourney placings to justify him being on the American team. Flocker, Pr Rog, Marlin Pie, and Fanatiq are all better choices. But people just want him on because he's so popular I guess.
Yipes is not picked because he's popular. It's because he's one of the elite in Marvel. He also, unlike everyone else except FChamp people are putting on the USA list, has many of the World's player's numbers and had a chance to play with all of the Japanese + Zak.

Add to the fact that he plays all his characters on a level unseen anywhere else, and is one of the top players that are ahead of the game with an already solidified B team, Yipes is a solid choice. Better in long sets by far but once he gets the momentum rolling he can do damage.

I would put Yipes in my Top 10 of Marvel players ATM, probably Top 5.

I agree. I would have him on my team. Popular or not he has huge match up knowledge and a presence that would count. You know who else? I always like Marn in a team environment too. Bit of a stretch at the moment, but if he put the work in again he always seems to step up (only if you were short of top players actually at the event of course, it is all hypothetical depending who is going).

"My mother said that GAF Top 5 is all Xbox-only players"

<-- THIS ISN'T (only) AN XBOX PLAYER.

That'll work for a Batmayne line.

Also, 645 is NeoGAF's reckoning. Haven't got a chance to play Karst yet T_T. Panda and beef know what they're doing out there too. I think Eraldocoil does too (haven't even played him since SF4 Choco I think, haha).

GAF has plenty of Marvel flyboys/girls. Hard to pick just 5.

too many people picking up p4a, I need less people to play so I can seem better at the game. brb importing aquapazza.

Vanilla or Ultimate? OTG arrows into Shield Skill is much tougher to do in Ultimate and also character specific (smaller vertical hitbox = easier to do).

Ultimate

I only mentioned this as someone did it to me online on the Vita. My taskmaster felt completely outclassed (though I won on the back of level 3 vergil)

Theres regret now, because Ponder called raffles out and essentially will end them. No more raffle fun for people!

Also hilarious how he called out the person in charge of DMG for his raffle lol.

Very curious about the ramifications that no more raffles will have in the community. Alot of these "teams" need the money they get from arcade stick raffles.

One thing about Marvel that I love and doesn't exist to the same degree in other major fighting games is the fact that your combos for the most part are your own. There's such a huge amount of creativity you have with your assists and whatnot, it's not uncommon to see someone show off a new combo at a tournament.

There's less disparity with the more explored characters, but I'm sure there's still stuff that hasn't been figured out.

I say this mostly because I actually enjoy spending a lot of time in training mode trying various things. I just found a pretty crazy combo with X-23 using Doom's Hidden Missiles, it actually OTGs twice (once on the way up and again on the way down). It was such a rush of adrenaline having an idea for how to make something work and then tweaking it until it does.

But what if that was the objective all along? :0

I know this is one of the more silly things to complain about, but jump-back instant-overhead into dive kick seems so dumb.

I don't think that combos, I'm pretty sure Infiltration was just surprised by it. I've seen a ton of Poongko videos and I've never seen it.

It doesn't. He does it again in the same set and Infiltration blocks it. It's just annoying how he can use it to re-establish pressure. When most other characters do instant overheads, they have to jump back and reset everything to neutral or neutral jump and get punished.

Poongko does do it though. He probably doesn't do it a lot, but it definitely isn't the first time he's done it. I think he did it last year at Evo.

This reminds me I have to pre-order P4A so I can finally start grinding as much as possible at a game. I think this is the one.

I would love to get another stick too so I could get my friends to play with me more often, but that's just not possible with my budget. My friends have this mentality where they're like "man you're playing with a stick so it must mean you're better than me" or "if i play with a pad i'm playing sub-optimally" but at the same time they're not invested enough into fighting games to buy one themselves. Crappy situation. If they do play they just mash out on a pad.

This is why I think Ponder's call will be disregarded quickly. Too much money in this. Only thing he could do outside of public shaming is ban folks doing raffles from Evo, and that would not go over well at all.

Folks just aren't going to throw away those 5th and 6th sticks they win.

Could they just put it on ebay or something like he suggested?

That's pretty messed up about people who don't send out items. Why withhold their names? The whole raffle thing would be better if there was some accountability/self-policing.

can't say I disagree with raffles. Players need money to get to tournies and stream monsters could get a stick for super cheap. win win. i don't think ebay is super viable because if all the sticks people win get posted, its gonna severely devalue TE sticks. I'd never buy a new one again if I knew I could just wait until after a tourney to pick up a stick on ebay.

I'd trust Marn before Ebay.

Which would you trust more, his ebay sale for a stick or his arcade stick raffle?

really? that implies raffles havent done that already

Another drama filled day in the fgc, I feel like I should be paying for this entertainment.

Anyways, I hope P4a has some decent netplay, I cant wait to dive in and get my ass kicked with Akihiko, Mitsuru, and Kanji.

they have to an extent, as have the sales at every tourney, but flooding ebay puts average joe on notice about cheap sticks too.

Though with how much the sticks get discounted, me thinks the business plan is to have them super hiked in stores for maximum profit while the tourney discounts bring them down to a more normal price?

i dunno...markman? though i doubt he could just tell us madcatz's business plan :p

Is that his counter-pick for the matchup, or just him goofing around?

He plays Hakan along with Akuma and Gouken. It probably depends on the matchup. I can't imagine it being very great for Sim (not like I know any of Hakan's matchups though). Infiltration certainly made it SEEM like an awful matchup.

Hmm I guess ebay would do that but the average joe prob only cares about the name of the stick. Why buy a mayflash stick when you can have a mad catz one your favorite player uses and is guaranteed to serve you? That's neither here nor there though.

AC3 netcode is the same as BB netcode as far as I'm aware. I'd say it's safe to assume P4A is going to be pretty good online.

Cool.
